Does North Korea use ham radios to broadcast their news to the world? The country is pathetically backwards. They should not be wasting money trying to launch anything. Food for thought... yes exactly. Food

Yelnats - Will never happen. They don't need to concentrate on feeding their own people, because we do it for them. Actually, we give them the food to feed their people but instead they give it to their Armed Forces.. and we let them do that too. Isn't it amazing how such a backwards country claims that they can't afford to feed their own people but somehow CAN afford to build and launch missiles/"satellites"?? Nothing new though, that little dwarf has been getting away with saying one thing and doing something completely different for way too long. Because we let him, of course...

And by "We", I mean the International Community.

Communications satellites require notification and approval of the International Telecommunications Union and North Korea is required to declare the orbital data of their intended "satellite". Issuing a warning to ships and aircraft that you're going to hurl a few thousand pounds of toxic waste and scrap metal into the air sounds more like a missile test to me. I agree the money would be better spent on feeding the North Korean people but when you have a brain-dead moron for a dictator what can you expect?

Nuckinfutz (et al.): Brain dead the man is, indeed. That being said, he has every country and the world's intelligence communities in the dark as to what's going on, and it sounds like they are more convinced it's POSSIBLY a satellite than they were previously. I have no doubt NK is working on missile technology, but I wouldn't take the fact that they haven't alerted the International Telecommunications Union as proof that it is not, for after all it's been pointed out the man does not like to play by the rules. It would be win-win-win for Kim if they launched a satellite, for the reasons mentioned in the article, despite him forcing his people to suffer for the program.

Again, though... brain dead indeed. Sadly, we're going to find out whether it's a satellite or not.

Do they even HAVE a functioning satellite? You can go to every country that has a space program and verify this because it's no state secret. All NKorea has to do is allow reps from the 6 party talks to visit before the launch to confirm that it's satellite (and not mockup). Bet they won't allow it, Just like they won't allow veification of where all the food aid is really going.

Cool warning...hey everybody, we are gettin' ready to launch this big souped up missile. We don't know if it will fly straight or not so keep clear!

"Necessary information for the safe navigation of ships and planes" I can see the airplanes but if ships are at risk for any reason the North Korean's must be betting 50/50 that it will crash into the Sea of Japan.

If you can't perfect it within your own territory then you shouldn't be firing it into international territory and hope for the best. Watch out guys, it may fall. These w@nks don't deserve all the spoon feeding we've been giving them over the years. Revoke all aid and tell them to go it alone with their Juche idea of 'self reliance'. These morons are so stubborn and arrogant that they can't see that aid doesn't make them self reliant? I guess not. Maybe they can only afford to launch this stuff due to the fake currency they introduce into the world economy. This should be enough excuse to lay down an ultimatum to Kim Snow White and his 7 dwarfs.

I wonder what the UN is going to do if NK does launch this thing? Maybe a launch means that there will be no more shipments of anything but that only hurts the peasants, not the dear little leader.

I doubt they have filed the necessary oribital information but I don't know for sure. I'm willing to bet it's a missile...wonder what the SDF is thinking?

I still think China should take over for about 20 years and help get NK back on it's feet.

That would be like asking a CEO to drop everything they are doing in order to help their blind, deaf, short, ugly, incompetant, second cousin learn how to eat soup. A commendable effort...until you leave him alone for five minutes and he's back to throwing spoons at the wall and eating with his hands.

China could probably decide who the next "Dearest Leader" should be, decide which Generals will be Chief of Staff, and force a "regime change". If North Korea were a defacto Chinese province it would be better than it is now.
