"N Korea warns of nuclear war"

N Korea is warning of its total annihilation then.

But even if N Korea launched a nuclear attack, it wouldn't be necessary to drop nukes on Pyongyang or anywhere else. We have the weapons necessary to utterly defeat N Korea without resorting to wiping out millions of people.

Sarge, Kim Jong-Il isn't getting with the program you want him to get with.

What's your plan B - besides total all out war?

The problem with a war on the Korean peninsula is that the major population centers in the South, like Seoul, would be overrun with possibly millions killed before the North Koreans are eventually pushed back north in another protracted conflict. The North Koreans have more tanks, artillery, and manpower than all of the countries allied with the South. Luckily, their air force and navy are not up to par. That's why they want nukes, to even the score.

"But even if N Korea launched a nuclear attack, it wouldn't be necessary to drop nukes on Pyongyang or anywhere else. We have the weapons necessary to utterly defeat N Korea without resorting to wiping out millions of people."

THOUSANDS of artillery tubes aimed at Seoul alone could be fired at pretty much any time, with no warning until they started exploding in downtown Gangnam or Isadong and this is all the lame retort someone can come up with. Once again, the flag-waving "We can destroy 'em!" 'patriotic' crap is out in full force, and it's a shame some people can't realize, Kim Jong Il being top among them, that war is NOT preferable to ANYTHING. A fresh (since technically the last never ended) war would be catastrophic, and result in millions dead whatever way you slice it -- nuclear weapons or not.

Shouldn´t these people be planting rice and feeding their hungry?

The problem is the bigger picture in North Korea. With their economy on the brink of collapse, the population starving, and a government that is desperate, there's no telling what they'll do. If they think their country is about to go down the shi_ter, they may adapt a "Let's go out in a blaze of glory" attitude. That's when the sh_t will really hit the fan. And they know it. That's why they keep extorting money and food from the South and its allies.

Everyone should cool down and wait for him to retire. Stakes are too high.

North Korea knows that they now have a world where no one will do a damned thing of any substance to stop them.

Don't worry S. Korea with the help of Samsung has positioned these on the border. I'm not sure why Samsung chose the theme music from Pirate's ofthe Carribean! Seems like Robocop is actually coming true, a little scary really.

Just call their bluff. MK hasn't the nads nor the resources for war.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Oops...NK...sorry

0 ( +0 / -0 )

sharky: yeah... no harm in gambling all the lives that aren't yours, eh? They have the resources enough to destroy most of the northern parts of South Korea, Seoul first and foremost. You may not care, but fortunately a whole lot of people do.

It's like the Kim Crime Family and the nutjobs runnin the Hermit Kingdom Freakshow want a little bottled sunshine dropped on em.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Kim probably wants to raise tensions so his son can take over the NK military (dictatorship) more easily, then claim a victory in his name so his succession is secured. That or, worst case scenerio, he really does want to go out with a bang. He could do it if he thinks he is dying and doesn't think the regime and his offspring will survive. Killing lots of innocent people is beyond him or his henchmen.

He's all mouth.

smithinjapan...don't know where you get your info, but obviously political science isn't your strong suit.

Too bad his strokes don't kill off the evil part of his brain. That part seems to have grown stronger since his stroke.

We could threaten to "not talk to them" again. How did that work our for you?

If Kim has the same power over his flock in charge as Jim Jones had over his flock then what geronimo said could very well come true. very scary to think but it could be a cult in there rather than a dictatorship.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I think bringing the cult mentality to this issue is accurate. It is just my opinion but I'll bet he the same effect on some of his followers as if they were worshipers.

Sushi ( to me ): "What's your plan B?"

Why don't you go ask Obama what his plan B is?

Donkey: "We could threaten to "not talk to them" again. How did that work our ( out ) for you?"

Lessee... no war on the Korean Peninsula... S Korea still free enough to refuse to import any American automobiles... you're right, Donkey, it's been a total failure!

Patrick: "Seoul will be overrun within 4 hours"

The Korean business owners and the Japanese tourists spending all that yen there would never allow it!

"They ( the N Koreans ) have well-trained nutter soldiers"

Nutter maybe.

"All the 28500 US troops can do is withdraw"

Your friend in the U.S. military doesn't know as much as he thinks he does.

The NK army would starve before they for anywhere near the south's border.

They are already stealing food from farmers, who it should be noted are starving themselves.

The U.S. right need to relax.......it's going to be alright.

good Donkey:

We could threaten to "not talk to them" again. How did that work our for you?

Or we could have another Dem female Sec of State present Dear Leader Kimmie with a Michael Jordan-autographed basketball and pretend all will work itself out, right?

N Korea warns of nuclear war amid rising tensions

North Korea has shown no ability to place a nuclear warhead on a capable missile and deliver it anywhere in the world against so-called adversaries.

North Korea's top people are not interested in annihilation. They simply want to bargain to get what makes life sustainable for them and the people in the military who protect them, and control the millions of poor, brainwashed subjects.

"North Korea has shown no ability to place a nuclear warhead on a capable missile and deliver it anywhere in the world against so-called adversaries."

Yeah, and I firmly support making sure this crank does not get these capabilities.

You just pulled that idea out of some hat, right?

Wow. :-)

The war between N-S Korea would be involved many countries, S Korea would never started the war with N unless they're invaded since they know:

It will be hard for them to win. If they could win the war, let's say by 1% chance, they have to pay enormous amount of damages and resources. They know for sure, China is behind this and they probably don't want to fight with China since they could bring another 50 mil soldiers to kill all the S-Koreans. China would never want N-Korea be defeated since they will lose their totally controlled little brother who is poor, stupid and crazy. Also, a united democracy Korean would be a threat to China when they are smart enough to turn back to their history and know that millions of Koreans were killed by China over the years.

"Dear Leader", are you wanting that much to commit suicide? Words do have consequences.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

This whole game of chicken is for domestic consumption, to hand over the realm while looking tough. One thing the regime wants is to survive!

"Dear Leader", are you wanting that much to commit suicide? Words do have consequences.

And what consequences are those? Face it, the US got nothing.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I don't know much about North Korea (other than Kim seems to be the supreme leader of nuts) but I was discussing this with someone, and they suggested that maybe Kim doesn't want any of his sons taking over. That he wants to be the baddest, and final leader of NK, so he's looking for a way to get out of power without looking like he's walking away. If they push enough to the point that other countries have to take military action and NK is crushed, then he can be the last/best leader in NK history.

I personally just think he's nuts and the sooner we choke the chain on Elvis the better.

And while I think China still looks at NK as a "little brother" I think even they are starting to get tired of all the rhetoric that keeps putting them in the awkward position of having to deal with the UNSC.

Korea didn't have nuclear capabilities. They began to build them. Clinton's people talked and offered food and whatever. They stopped their production of fissile material.

When we entered an era when we refused to talk to them they produced fissile material. They acquired the extremely complex capacitors needed to fire simultaneously with a massive charge. They packaged it with the needed electronics and what have you. They tested their nuclear devices. They tested missiles intended to carry them. They faked out Bush and got him to make the declaration he made and then they continued on with their program. Short of now using those weapons I would call that a failure.

The Democrats had the matter under control and then the cowboy came into town and now N. Korea has progressed further than almost any other country in the world wanted. The rest of the world entrusted us with dealing with Kim. Before Obama became President Kim thumbed his nose and set a dangerous precedent.

They didn't continue with fissile material production back then; now did they? But now they have it all. It seems to me the ones who are pretending are the ones who thought it worked out fine when they shut Kim out and did not keep the dialog going.

October 11, 2008 President Bush removed North Korea from the terrorist watch list. So now N. Korea is less of a "terrorist" state then when Bush labeled them as one of the members of the axis of evil?

The world needs to ask itself if we were better off before we shut down talks with Kim or after we took them off the terrorist watch list.

Stanley50: US got nothing

Yup, nothing much. Just a few dozen stealth bombers and a few thousand cruise missiles that could turn Kim's nuclear ambitions around. I don't think NK's neighbors will sit around waiting for too long if he keeps up the prattle. Capitalism in depression loves a good war.

The Democrats had the matter under control

You've got to be kidding me.
