Yeah, NK do something. Let's finish this damn impasse between NK/SK. End it once and for all. <:-)

Sounds like DPRK is calling the shots again. They give an order to stop, with a threat of retaliation to back it up.

SK doesn't have a hand left to play. If they go ahead with the drill and NK hammers them back, opinion towards the govt and President in the south will be harsh and unforgiving. If they call off the exercise, on the other hand, they will again lose face. What should they do?

And to add insult to injury, the North said the following, a deliberate slap in the face:

...the planned drills are an attempt “to save the face of the South Korean military, which met a disgraceful fiasco” during last month’s clash.

The North is egging the South to fight.

I have a cunning plan...

My view is SK merely asking for trouble. Looking at the map, one would realise how close is that to NK. And knowing that NK is prepared for a war...which they feel they have nothing to lose. Take the exercise to another spot in the whole wide country. SK had a drill there already. SK has the right to conduct exercise on that island, but SK got to realize having no human moral right to provoke NK making the region unstable and result in misery and deaths of an uncalled for trouble SK should restraint itself. NK is your own ' blood brothers'.

SK have to go thru with the exercise or else NK will call it a win and use it to make even more outlandish demands and threats.

When two drunk guys are fighting, no reason is needed.. We could have had a perfect world if the top men in SK had a bit of brain to think before acting & if the US were not there to fuel the heat ( we have seen similar scenario in Afghanistan etc ) -- despite the fact that I dislike engaging in J bashing, US bashing or C bashing etc -- these are the plain truth..

They should lose face, and adapt to that. Conducting these provocative drills is a misdeed.

They should adapt to the fact that SK is here, NK is there: Two states with two systems that constitute two parts of the same country, which should live side by side, respect each other and try to cooperate.

I thought that NK said that last month's artillery shelling was not their fault, and many people (including posters here) were taking the north's side on this. I guess this means that they did it on purpose, as well as the sinking of the South Korean ship.

I think if the south goes ahead with the drills and nothing happens, the north will be the one who loses the most face in this one. I say if they hold the drill on their own territory they should. I guess NK is afraid of the new south korean defense minister.

Pt24881: "When two drunk guys are fighting, no reason is needed."

Agreed, but this isn't two drunk guys fighting, and is incomparable. A more apt analogy would be one guy who has been wronged walking up to the other guy at the bar and threatening him/her with the thing they fear most. The bar fight would, of course, result in the end of the bar.

South Korea should take the high road and do these drills elsewhere. Granted, it would not be quite the same thing, but given the circumstances I would say it's a plus. War is best avoided. And if NK fires again once again SK will hesitate and look weak, so what's the point?

I'd like to see the proof that North Korea was shelled by the South. I haven't seen their side release any footage of what they claimed. The South should continue with the drills that they had been doing for years as it's on their territory. The North should get a warning that they'll get a cruise missile on Pyongyang if they choose to attack the South for doing what they have done before. Don't back down to the bully and if he calls you on it, answer. The South is owed some face and the North doesn't have any proof of what they claimed the South did to them unlike the South having proof of what the North did to them and their ship and territory. Sometimes you gotta be cruel to be kind. Let's end the Korean War in the new year.

Clearly South Korea is ready to retaliate should North Korea attack them again. They've already said so. In fact they're practically egging them on.

Doing nothing while North Korea kills South Korean civilians is the "high road"?

@mikehuntez

Such provocative drills have not been conducted before.

SK is so stubborn and to think that NK people actually have DVD players or computers to play those DVDs. =Why not just loft food over, clothes? -With all the propaganda misinformation it would not surprise me if NK sends care packages to "impoverished" SK.

Such provocative shelling of civilians of the other nation has not been conducted before.
