Hopefully the NK delegation doesn't opt to run across the DMZ to attend - lest they get shot in the back(s).

Hopefully the Americans and Japanese don't try and torpedo these talks like they did the last ones.

There was no such occurrence as mentioned by Civitas of any country less Japan or the Americans derailing any such talks. The actual breakdown was the testing and missile launches by NK that pretty much killed that.  What is the old adage be wary of those bearing gifts..funny how they bring talks up yet are going thru with testing and buildup. hmmm...

Likely Kim will urge restarting of the joint economic zone - he's starved for foreign currency. But he won't budge on anything significant as American leadership at the moment is too unstable.

The South should remember the causes and results of the disintegration of that economic zone and what the North will do with its benefits closely before making any commitment.

Great news for the new year. Worked for Germany.

Shows that sport transcends politics and war! this is a welcome announcement and should be applauded should it work out.

Great news!

It's about time for Seoul and Pyongyang to aim for a united and harmonious Korea.

Both should realize that only the USA and Japan's Abe benefits from their squabbling.

Great news. Diplomacy can work. I hope it is not to late. One more ICBM launch and I fear the situation reaches a point of no return. No one wants war in the region. Hopefully cooler heads will win the day.

Abe could have been a part of this if he was not so busy trying to overhype a fake threat to Japan

so he can change Article Nine in memory of his Grandfather.  Kim Jong-Un is playing Abe like

a 100 Yen store violin.

Self determination for both Korea's and perhaps talking the same language might just work. Keep Abe & Trump out of this diplomatic move, Too much to loose on both side of the DMZ. Perhaps a concept of mutual security agreement for both North & South and no need for foreign troops to be stationed in either of the Korea's. I worry more about other countries with nuke capability in the Asian sub continent. Prosperity would be enormous if trust could be established and respect for both systems that just might benefit all the people

Please keep the dog off our New Year menu as they could teach humans a great deal about love and loyalty

NK just trying to see what they can squeeze out of SK again. We'll send our two Olympians who qualified if you send us 1,000,000 tons of rice.

hours after Seoul and Washington agreed to defer joint military exercises

Nothing for nothing except for when Kim gets something for nothing.

Abe is the biggest loser. He has miscalculated for the last 5 years.

Better 1,000,000 tons of rice sent to NK than SK getting hit with barrage of artillery killing 1,000,000. Let's face it Kim has created a nuke state and the world will need to live with that unless we want to take him on. Will SK be willing to ask the US military to leave like the French did in the 1960's . It appears Germany did not to attack France after that decision and Japan has been far better off without an offensive military since WW2. China learned the great lesson of gaining economic world superiority without firing a shot since the Korean conflict.

Sino-Indian War 1962, Sino-Vietnamese War 1979...take a look at the list. A lot of shots have been fired since the Korean War.

That would be strange

Germany was divided into West Germany (an ally) and East Germany (an enemy)

East Germany can't attack France without going to war with West Germany first
