Fighto!
This animal lived their life as a freak, and died as a coward. Absolute scum who should have been terminated before birth.
How he was able to obtain 7 high powered firearms - legally - is sickening.
Superlib
We could have a system in place where a doctor decides the patient is too unstable for gun ownership and can get him on a list somewhere, but the GOP has blocked doctors from asking patients if they own guns.
Also, background checks are optional in the US. Just go to a gun show or buy from a private party, or have a friend pass the background check and then he's allowed to just give it to you as a gift.
Bob Fosse
Legally owned guns, no police record.
Guns and god, the worst combination.,

Rather typical m.o. of these mentally unbalanced types. The reaction of those around the killer are similar: Oh, I had no idea that ....... had so many guns! Of course it's always too late to make any difference, which shows that the killer was careful in concealing their murderous intent to commit harm until it was too late for anybody to respond. Meanwhile the U.S. politicians, especially those on the right, always downplay it as an issue of mental health instead of guns when the problem is obviously both. As one woman said who experienced a mass shooting only a year before in Highland, Illinois, and was in Nashville visiting a relative when she heard the shots, she said, "Only in America." She makes a valid point, for where else in the world do so many school shootings take place without taking any corrective action to prevent it from happening over and over again?
Fighto!
These things have existed since the stone age. They will always exist in some humans. They cannot be "banned".
It is far harder for someone full of hate to kill many others without easy access to guns - as seen in places like Japan. But the gun supporters all know that.
fatrainfallingintheforest
As posters pointed out yesterday, out of the thousands of mass shooting incidents in the last decade, four (4) of the shooters have been identified as trans or non-binary (although in one case there is a bunch of evidence to suggest the shooter wasn't, and it's not known whether it was a motivating factor in other cases) so it's definitely a problem of gender identity, rather than guns. /s.
Bob Fosse
Do these things only exist in The US? How did other countries solve school shootings?
Which do you imagine is easier to regulate, gun ownership or negative emotions?
wallace
Ban all assault rifles.
Kurumazaka2.1
hats off to the cops who responded to this travesty. There was no hesitation. They went straight in and got the job done in mere minutes. Ulvalde this was not. Who knows how many children those badasses saved. Respect.
fatrainfallingintheforest
Has the motive been confirmed?

Tennessee does not require a permit to carry a firearm, whether openly or concealed. If you want to carry a gun openly or concealed in public in Tennessee, you don't need a permit. As of July 1, 2021, Tennessee is a permit-less carry state.
https://www.seviercountysheriff.com/tennessee-gun-laws.html
Tennessee does not talk about gun laws just about prayers.
Blacklabel
let’s play the pronoun game cause that is the top priority when children are murdered.
Wouldn’t want to misgender a deceased killer who now goes by (was/were).
fatrainfallingintheforest
The shooter was under a doctor's care for an emotional issue of some kind, and the parents were concerned about their access to guns. However, as Tennessee has no red flag laws, or ERPOs, the shooter was able to legally purchase seven firearms including a semi-automatic rifle or two and a semi-automatic handgun.
If a doctor's certificate were required for gun purchases, it's possible they wouldn't have been able to purchase the weapons. Obviously that wouldn't stop them from picking one up in a convenience store car park.
And yes, I know I'm spitting into the wind.
fatrainfallingintheforest
Not really. All mass shooters have emotional issues. Obviously.
Blacklabel
So what’s with the transgender “rage” event scheduled for next week that is so violent that you now get banned on Twitter for even posting the flyer inviting then to join it?
has that violent event been cancelled?
dagon
More circular reasoning on display on display for this latest tragedy along with the usual thoughts and prayers.
It goes like: Another case of a mentally ill loner motivated by ideology!
The needs to fund more screening for mental health issues!
So it is suggested to broadly fund and make more freely available care for medical/psychiatric issues, and have medical professionals screen for conditions that could flag gun ownership. Things which might have averted events like this.
And the hysterics of " Socialism! Medical dictatorship! They will be coming door to door to take your guns!" starts again.
The number one source of toxic ideology in the US now is the evangelical/rightist/conspiratorial triangle.
bass4funk
I definitely agree, they did a spectacular job. Watched the entire video, this is the reason why we need to support our law enforcement.
bass4funk
That will never happen.
fatrainfallingintheforest
I just google image searched them. Quite ominous aren't they?
fatrainfallingintheforest
Absolutely. When they do their jobs right, as they did here. Hats off to them.
OssanAmerica
The U.S. needs to implement a serious crack down on military type ("assault") weapons in civilian hands on a Federal amd State level. The amount of damage these types of firearms can cause far exceeds what can be done with customary hunting arms. These types of firearms need to be controlled by a renewable registration system with massive background checks, purchase/ownership limitations, medical certifications and mandatory liability insurance on both State and Federal levels.
fatrainfallingintheforest
They have as much right to keep and bear arms as you do. Or do the actions of one represent the all?
Blacklabel
“How dare you politicize this!”
oh wait, never mind.

What worries me is that no one decides on their own to do a search on Amazon for "Trans rights...or else." They're being fed that information from hate group sites, then they come here to spread it. They're basically just an affiliate for these people.
Judging by the speed, some people are reading sites like this daily, most likely multiple times per day. I'd ask them for their sources but they will never give them up. Lord only knows what other information is on these feeder sites. It's probably horrific, and they live in this mental state continuously.
Superlib
Then school shootings will always happen. I know that's an acceptable consequence for you, and it's a rotten.
wallace
A transgender without an assault rifle can't shoot anyone. Ban them already.
Tennessee needs gun laws.
wallace
I predict sadly, this will not be the last school shooting, even this year.
fatrainfallingintheforest
This shooter also had a handgun and shotguns. Seven weapons in total. Ban all of them?
lincolnman
Unfortunately, a mass shooting like this in Tennessee is very likely to happen again....why?
Tennessee does not have a “red flag” law, which would have created an avenue for the parents to ask a court to temporarily restrict Hale’s ability to purchase or own a gun due to concerns about the safety of Hale or others.
Yes, that's right - in Tennessee even if your relative is holed up in their basement, howling at the moon in their underwear, and drawing pictures on the walls of demons saying the world is coming to an end - they can still walk down to the local gun store and buy an AR15. The far-right gun nuts want to make buying a gun as easy as buying a carton of milk...
Even the talking heads at Fox and Friends see the real issue as ease of gun access...
https://www.yahoo.com/news/fox-news-martha-maccallum-clashes-002234050.html
The gun nutters worship at the alter of the gun - and love their guns more than their own children...
wallace
He used his assault rifle which is the most common weapon in mass shootings.
Kurumazaka2.1
is it mere coincidence that all this fun that’s wrecked America kicked into high gear in 2015 when gay marriage was legalized during the administration of our first black president? Y’all really think the rest of us can’t connect the dots here?
Blacklabel
strange way for you to be upset that I know about things that I guess I’m not supposed to know exist. Saw it in CNN actually.
In my previous leftist life, that’s what I would be concerned about, how did others find out! not denouncing that such things exist as you should be.
these things are pushed by this community and incite violence like we just saw. Add emotional issues to this tendency toward violence and we get hate crimes like this.
UChosePoorly
What are you suggesting, Kurumazaka?
bass4funk
And despite the damage she did, in under 15 min she was successfully taken out. The officers did a top-notch flawless job at neutralizing the threat.
Ok, not sure how their personal opinions are relevant, but whatever.....
No, we just love the 2nd amendment even more to be honest...
No, for millions of Americans, keeping guns to protect your family is the reason, for a lot of people at least.
wallace
bass4funk
That does not remove the cause to ban assault weapons which would also help to protect police officers. Unlike the school in Texas, the cops dealt with the threat.
On this forum all opinions are relevant.
yes they do.
The 2nd does not state the type of guns.
Many probably do
Only about 49% of households have a gun. An assault rifle is not needed by any civilian.
How do you protect your family in Japan without your guns?
Superlib
Let's have a civil debate, bass. What should be done about gun violence in America?
A few things you should know:
I respect the 2nd Amendment. I don't agree with it, but it's the law of the land. Hopefully one day it will change, but, unfortunately, it will probably take a pretty horrific event to do so. Or just out of control shootings daily. I don't think more guns in schools is the answer. I can't imagine a 60-year old religious teacher at a Christian school is going to be effective with a gun and will most likely get themselves killed. And most of the volunteers for security guards will be slow reacting retirees who will most likely get themselves killed as well. I understand that a lot of the stats come from the inner city, and it's difficult to tell someone in Wyoming that they can't have a gun because of gang bangers in LA. I respect that. I understand that a lot of stats include suicide from guns. It's not necessarily indicative of crimes between two people. But I do think the instant ability to end your life is why some people use guns. Can we agree that just about anyone in the US who wants a gun can get one, regardless of their mental state or situation? How can we prevent that? It can't be background checks if you can just give your gun to someone else. What kind of restrictions would you be willing to go along with that could impact the number of mass shooting we have in this country? Any middle ground?bass4funk
Well, we don't need to debate it because the left doesn't want to engage or talk about the mental care issue or even about this woman that died, Biden outrageously and immediately went straight into talking about guns, no conservative will listen or take him seriously especially when he starts off trying to politicize the issue.
You can make them, but the law won't change, I want my beer brewery, but that just won't happen, but I get your point, we can talk about it, ok...
No, we love our 2nd amendment
Irrelevant, I buy what I like and can afford.
I never met a person like that, but maybe you are right, some parents don't care about their kids, they let them be whatever they want, let them do whatever they want, don't give help or guidance, don't what they do in their daily lives, so I get your point.
That is your personal opinion. It's like PETA telling me, I don't need to eat meat, true, but I want to, so there. Lol
Cards fan
Excuse me mods, how is this "on topic"?
lincolnman
Interesting - celebrating that only 6 people, including 3 children, were killed...
Might want to ask the parents and spouses of the victims if they share your glee...
You continually cite them, so they must be as relevant as your opinion you post here...
More than what?
Indeed - those are responsible gun owners that support common sense gun control - like "red flag" laws....
The gun nutters only keep their arsenals because they feel insecure and helpless - and holding a gun gives them their only sense of power...
wallace
Assault rifle owners need to justify why they need them and not just because of the 2nd amendment. Anyone can carry a gun without a permit. Tennessee has too few gun laws to enforce.
bass4funk
your 21 guns are in Texas but you are in Japan. I can only hope they are secure and will never be stolen in your absence.
There is a need for sensible gun laws but gun nutters want none.
Mass shootings will sadly continue and young children will continue to be slaughtered. Those who have blood on their hands are the ones opposing any changes.
bass4funk
I don't see it ever going away, we give that up then that's when the government has full autonomy over you, so I don't see that happening in any capacity.
I disagree, when I am in the States and go off to the shooting range there are a lot of people over the age of 60 and up and some of these people are A-class shooters, I'm very good, but some of these old timers will blow me away in a shooting contest, so I completely disagree with that statement, it just depends on the individual.
Again, I disagree, it just all depends, if they meet the requirements then they should be able to do the job.
I wouldn't necessarily disagree with that.
As you know I don't trust the government, I think over the last 2 years the government has done enough damage by going after everyday normal Americans and just linking anyone that is not compliant as a far-right person never trusted these people, and even more so now than ever in my lifetime, I don't have all the answers, but I do think we enforce the gun laws on the books, depending on the state, the crime level, look, you will never get guns off the streets, there are more than 2 million stolen and underground sales that are happening all the time, so that is not going away anytime soon, next I think we should hire more law enforcement, double their numbers, and allow them to do their job to the fullest and use all of the necessary tools at their disposal, once the bad guys see that we have zero tolerance for crime, people are being arrested and end No cash bail, bring back the death penalty for the most egregious of crimes, clean up the homeless and use our taxpayer money to helping and understanding about the serious effects of mental illness and the root causes of it.
dagon
The corporate funded alt-right works on diversion between culture war and economic issues.
While attacking Biden on mental health care;
Medicare for All, real legislation to increase mental health screening for gun ownership will immediately get rejected as "Socialism! Medical dictatorship!" predictably by the right.
It is just a ploy to divert focus from gun control to the particular mental state of a transgender individual.
Cards fan
Nonsense. This event was planned well before the tragedy in Nashville. https://twitter.com/OurRightsDC/status/1634229383937310744
Here is the said group's statement on the shooting.

I think we can see who is pushing the violent rhetoric.
After all, this got MJT's twitter account suspended.
bass4funk
Again, nothing will happen
I have more than that.
But I regularly go back to the States.
Yeah, well I doubt that would happen, if someone would try and attempt that, they just wouldn't be happy.
You can make the same argument for mental care debates.
No, I disagree, in this case, it seems the parents would be involved enough with their daughter and the help that she was craving. I always make sure to talk to my kids as an involved parent. The parents do have some responsibility to a certain degree, but the person that does have blood on them without a doubt is this woman that took it upon herself to shoot up these innocent people because they have a choice, we all do, no one told her to shoot up the school and kill people, she decided that on her own.
Grilledham&cheese
If this person was on any type of watch list then it’s another failure of the judicial system for not doing their job. The Colorado shooter is a great example. That individual was on the FBI’s watch list and Colorado a deep red state has very tough gun laws, but they where still able to kill.
Superlib
Nah. Anyone on any "watch list" can get around it with gun shows and private party sales. As I've said before, such things are just optional when you provide an off ramp.
Will you agree to change that? Nope. So stop complaining.
bass4funk
No, you are just angry that this woman was white, not a minority and or a man, that defeated your crushed conservative diatribe narrative. relax.
Why shouldn't we, he never talks about it, for him it's only "Trump, race, MAGA, guns and it's the Republican's fault and he wants to shout it out, but will never debate or take questions.
So who will pay for it? How? With what money?
Well, you could flipmode that and make the same argument about mental care.
Grilledham&cheese

and she got her account quickly. So your at least acknowledging that ANTIFA trans group is calling for violence.
Kurumazaka2.1
Sorry Cards Fan, obviously I wasn’t clear.
I’m talking to our resident throw ‘‘em back in the closet crowd; the guys emphasizing the Transgender aspect rather than the shooter or availability of assault weapons aspect.
I see no reason for your response to have been removed.
yes, I know school shootings happened prior to 2015 and I don’t blame Obama for a Supreme Court decision. Sorry for the confusion.
the American right went full scorched earth after gay marriage rights were recognized. I don’t see that as a coincidence. We are hearing blame the gays/ anti Christian hatred from certain posters. That’s the point.
Cards fan
Lol No. I reject your argument in it's entirety. You made it seem as if the "day of vengeance" was a response by transpeople to the shooting when clearly it isn't.
Cards fan
Fair enough, Kuruma. Got it.
Blacklabel
that there is a "Day of Vengeance" that is justified by the left AT ALL, either pre or post shooting, is the actual problem here.
Grilledham&cheese
“I’m talking to our resident throw ‘‘em back in the closet crowd; the guys emphasizing the Transgender aspect rather than the shooter or availability of assault weapons aspect.”
it’s rhetoric like this that is getting people killed and harmed by leftist.
No one has said they want trans-people to go away. But you folks are trying hard to deny that so many of them have mental health issues.
It’s because people like you who push this narrative that it’s ok if you think your girl when your boy at 7 years old then you need to transition because your a girl.
It’s not only sick it’s brainwashing children to do something that they can’t reverse.
It’s life changing and so many of them end up killings themselves not because they are being bullied, because they realize they where lied to and deceived by adults who had their own agenda. Many of them realized they never wanted to be the opposite sex.
fatrainfallingintheforest
No, handguns are. Also, mass shootings account for a small percentage of US gun violence. Rifles account for about 2% of gun deaths. Including suicides.
https://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2022/02/03/what-the-data-says-about-gun-deaths-in-the-u-s/
Superlib
I don't doubt that. But at the end of the day all they can do is react. By the time the get to a classroom we could have a dozen children killed. Stuff like this seems more like reducing the number of deaths in "lucky" situations, but not eliminating them.
This has never been a compelling argument for me. The US government isn't going to invade your home. The logistics make it impossible, but feel free to explain the potential scenario if you have one in mind. Law enforcement and the military start killing Americans?
N
Let's not go there in this conversation. I don't think Joe Biden is such a threat ro you that you need an assault rifle for protection. If that's your motivation for your opinions, then we have a problem.
Jimizo
Ouch.
Grilledham&cheese
Cards fan If another trans person murders more people because of their belief at what point will you acknowledge their is a mental health crises in the trans community?
dagon
Funny how the conservative posters crying there is no debate when, if you have studied rhetoric, debate entails logic, and their posts engage in hysterical non sequitur and appeal to illogical sources exclusively.
I point out how the call for increased focus on mental health care in the case of this mass shooting would actually be opposed by the right-identifying and predictably...
Is the response. Case closed.
It is not even ignoring principles of logic in debate I reckon.
It is a pre-rational , emotional authoritarian appeal and getting to the core of issues that led to the tragedy in Nashville and the larger issues Stateside.
Bob Fosse
But the 2nd amendment isn’t for all Americans. A large percentage of Americans are not allowed to own guns. The 2nd amendment does not apply to every American.
Besides that the majority of Americans don’t own guns.
It’s a minority of people who holding the lives of other Americans at ransom.
You don’t know this.
Cards fan
You must have missed it, but this event was planned weeks ago. It's got nothing to do with this, and it's a protest against rightists that are trying to get rid of transpeople.
Even on this site, you have people calling for them to be locked up. You've got people like Michael Knowles calling for the "eradication of transpeople from society." What are transpeople supposed to do? Not fight back? If you object to the language used, what would be the appropriate way to describe the aim of the protest?
wallace
I am confused.
So according to Blacklabel transsexuals are part of Antifa. There are no actual members of anarchy. And they are considered the most dangerous ones.
Blacklabel
not a Day of Vengeance. that much is obvious.
Vengeance for what and how will they inflict their vengeance (violence?) and on whom?
wallace
bass4funk
how are you going to enact your mental health care and guns?
Require every buyer of a gun to be mentally tested first? Require every current gun owner to be mentally tested. Are there even enough doctors for the procedures?
Red flag system.
Enforce current gun laws. What in states that don't have them?
Grilledham&cheese
Jimizo
That was an ouch? Haha hardly.
sorry but gun shows still require background checks and the ones I have been to if you want to take a weapon home directly from the show you have several forms you have to fill out up to two months before the show starts.
As far as person to person sales well then the states need to address that issue.
Unfortunately these past few mass killings, the individuals purchased their weapons legally even though they where all on some type of watch list either by the FBI or local law inforcements. So explain to me why weren’t these individuals stopped from purchasing a weapon? There is already a nati data base for people on these list to keep them from buying weapons.
Superlib
That would still be a tony fraction of murders committed by right wingers, people who are described as the biggest terrorist threat to the US.
Clean up your own house before pointing the finger at an extreme minority. It's just common sense.
Grilledham&cheese
Bob we do know this. Thanks for participating
When will your leftists denounce your violent acts? How many more innocent people have to die at the hands of far left mentally unstable individuals?
bass4funk
Depending on the situation, better than not having access or the ability to engage an active shooter if that to come to pass.
But thankfully, the mass majority of schools will not have to deal with this kind of situation, God willing....
Given what we have witnessed in 2012 with the IRS what the left has done with hundreds of J6 protesters and what the Twitter files have revealed and listened to the recent hearings as to what law enforcement has done, and the constant attacks on conservatives that we see daily on the news and on the internet, it's getting harder for people to believe that. Funny, when GW was President, the liberals were on the opposite side of this issue and vigorously and viciously protecting the civil liberties of Americans, amazing how times changed.
Truth hurts I get it.
Hmmm 38% of Democrats don't want him to run, and 75% of Americans think the country is on the wrong track, I would call that a threat, a threat to your emotional happiness, well-being, and security.
I don't think it is a problem because I am not going out of my way to harm anyone, live and let live.
Cards fan
I already explained it and even posted the links: the protests are a direct reaction to rightists trying to ban them from society.
If another man commits another mass murder, will you acknowledge their is mental health crisis in their community? There are hundreds of mass shootings every year in the US, and 98% are committed by men.
Really weird how the right thinks a handful of shootings by trans person is a problem, but are more than happy to overlook the hundreds of other shootings that happen every year in the US. All about rationalizing their hate. That's all.
wallace
When it comes to gun violence America is very sick and ain't getting better soon. The highest gun homicides in the G7.

Are Americans being forced to own guns? No! Are they good law abiding citizens who own guns breaking the laws or commit these heinous crimes, no!
and Bob it’s definitely not a minority who own guns in America.
The NPR just had a recent show on Trans-Gun owners. You should go check it out. Seems that many on the left are now buying guns.

Have a townhall in those States and have them talk with their local mayors and governors and let us see what the people want, that would be the fair thing to do.

Finally, we get a Repub that admits "there's nothing to be done"....raising the white flag....giving up....
"Rep. Burchett, who voted against a bill expanding background checks on gun sales in 2021, called Monday’s shooting “a horrible, horrible situation,” but insisted nothing could be done to prevent future tragedies because, “criminals are gonna be criminals.”

The vast majority of Americans support stricter gun laws

Yes and the native Americans learned a long time ago it's too bad they didn't have guns to protect themselves from white Europeans stealing their land. What a sad learning experience.

Absolutely not. The NYT seriously.
That's where your biggest gun violence, homicides, and assaults are happening, you know it's bad when the biggest store chains leave these areas. These people don't vote Republican overwhelmingly.

Depends and to what degree, what percentage, who and where the poll was conducted, what demographics, and how many minorities in the hardest hit zones were polled?

Audrey Hale was a law abiding citizen until she wasn’t.
She was obviously mentally unstable, but where are you getting that she was a ‘far leftist’? If she were a ‘leftist’, wouldn’t she have been campaigning for stronger gun laws?
Interesting. Surely the personal pronouns a person would use to refer to themself would be ‘I, me, my, mine’? No male pronouns unless she referred to herself in the third person, which in itself would be weird.
fatrainfallingintheforest
Which is why they and other automatic and select fire weapons have been regulated since the 1930s and are seldom used in crime.
nishikat
You can own an old (around 1980s) military grade machine gun if you register with a tax stamp and they have never been used in a mass shooting. The same should go with semi autos. Actually the same should go with all guns. Look at Japan. I don't know if any murders with strictly registered guns in Japan.
wallace
There have been no reports of Audrey Hale being left-wing.
nishikat
Why did Patrick Crusius target the people he chose to target?
Should we then allow military grade machine guns to be sold at Walmart just like BB guns? Because the Trump view is the gun doesn't matter.

But Bass, as long as we have the system that we do, there's no way to stop anyone who wants to kill a lot of people with a gun. That's why people like me want change. Anything will help.

If a 747 full of school children went down, do you think Congress would just say, "nothing we can do about it"?
The Repubs pols are paralyzed, neutered. AWOL...as more of our children are gunned down...
Remember that when voting in 2024...

Another one.
The majority of mass shooters have no significant criminal record. Until they snap and become a mass shooter.
Going to take away their guns because they are angry about something? That’s unconstitutional, you can’t do it. Sorry, you’re stuck with a mess.

If that were indeed true then we don't need to debate the gun issue, it's not a problem then.
Just go into all the minority areas, rid them of the guns, and the issue is solved.
Amazing how you peeked into every household, the first time to meet a clairvoyant.
