If they weren't doing anything wrong, they'd have nothing to worry about, right? NATO is a friendly organization of live and let live, as we all know, until Russia pokes them of course. Speak softly and carry a big stick and all that.

Until Russia pokes NATO? Really? Is that what you think caused the current situation.

And NATO a friendly organisation? Their primary function is to support the arms trade for their members.

Peace at any price would be no peace at all.”

BS !

Freedom isn't free of cost

The cost of Freedom is priceless

Especially when it comes to defending and protecting innocent civilians

Of which apparently Zelenskyy doesn't understand

Get rid of Zelenskyy and replace him with a new commander that can negotiate without throwing a tantrum

Bullies only understand force and if they aren't stopped by someone stronger they will never stop until they have what they want.

You have to be especially thick to believe that Boris could order Ukraine to not surrender,

Incredibly thick would be to believe that a peace deal = surrender, or to fail and spot your attempt to deceive us into thinking anyone but you spoke of surrender.

You's have to be incredibly thick that the Russian would agree to a ceasefire, let alone a peace deal before he is properly humbled.

Once again I am forced to believe this board is nothing but a psy-op. There are other explanations, such as over run with troll farm sock puppets, but either way, you guys are horrible at your jobs. And the rigged votes are dead obvious.

"Everyone is against me!!!" I guess that is why you repeat Russian talking points so much.

2 ( +11 / -9 )

What are you talking about? NATO didn't invade Iraq.

Correct, but they sure as hell went over there and peddled their wares to the Iraqi armed forces.

Keepyer InternetpointsToday 09:55 am JST

Why is Russia so afraid of NATO, and the rest of Europe isn't?

Are you seriously asking, or trying to imply that NATO did not invade the entire country of Afghanistan over one terrorist group hijacking planes and crashing them in America? Was that necessary when in the middle of that invasion and occupation, the leader was killed in a surgical strike in PAKISTAN?

The educated will observe that that was 8 years later and he wouldn't have been in Pakistan if he had a comfy cave in Afghanistan.

I mean one would think surgical strikes would be the answer to a terrorist group.

They aren't the answer to everything. Plus why should a country that harbors a terrorist be allowed to go on like that?

Its not like Somalia, Yemen, Libya, or Iran got full invasions....no....just terror droned or surgical assasinations of a general and a little girl.

What are you going on about? Nice of you to mention two UN mandated missions, 1 war not involving the US, and 1 country that only had its terrorist taken out.

You forgot about near 20 years in Iraq over a lie? Or you don't want to admit that NATO is the marionette of the U.S.?

As others have said: can't even identify countries here. I guess this is typical of the apologist. Btw, we have permission to stay in Iraq.

Who has the biggest war budget the world has ever seen? Oh, yeah. The U.S. again.

We don't know what the Chinese budget actually is. Russia spends way more than the US per capita.

Whose history is full of breaking treaties from the Native Americans to the Russians?

Russia didn't have any treaty with the US that it didn't shamefully break first. While we are reevaluating imperialism, I expect you to say that Siberia should be removed from Russia.

You think Russia's economy won't be strangled for being surrounded by NATO countries?

One can only hope. Plenty of showboating apologists think the sanctions do nothing. Russia has no NATO members to its east as well.

You think Cuba is doing swell?

Well enough for their human rights situation and economic openness or lack there of.

You think anti-missile systems won't improve to the point of making Russia's nukes meaningless?

I realize Russia is a very cowardly country, but they already showed off their Mach 1000000 missiles.

You think close proximity might be a factor there? It will be ripe for the plucking then.

Maybe Russia shouldn't have started a war showing its absolute weakness then. NATO used to keep every weapons system of consequence far away from Russia but its going to be a lot closer in Ukraine.

NATO was specifically created to oppose the Soviet Union.

You're not wrong. Occupy 11 time zones, be led by a murderous tyrant, and be bent on worldwide revolution and people will notice you.

The collective West seems somewhat incapable of realizing the Soviety Union fell and the Cold War is over....

Russia did not fall, unfortunately. We have some cleaning up to do to remove this last empire that should have fallen in WW1.

so NATO lumbered on and aligned itself against Russia.....even as Russia tried to join NATO but was refused.

Because they didn't want to meet any criteria that every NATO member has to meet. And we can see now why those criteria exist: to prevent thug regimes from messing up NATO unity. It is good you point out that Putin once sang us nice songs. Why didn't he continue his career in show business rather than spend 20 years trying to hatch a plan to expand empire?

Why was Russia refused? Because war profiteers NEED enemies to exist. They need wars to exist. And their lobbyists create strife and wars so they can continue to exist and profit.

Still Putin's War and still proof positive to every NATO member that the organization is still their most vita membership.

You only seem to see white hats and black hats and can't remotely fathom why we have wars or how difficult it is to predict when and where the next one will start, and how often countries are attacked when they are least prepared.

You seem to ignore the black hats unless they feature on Nim Chimsky's latest podcast.

It's like people who are afraid of the police. If they just obey the law, they have nothing to worry about, right?

You mean like Breonna Taylor? Or Rekia Boyd? Or Aiyana Jones? Jeremy Mardis? Akai Gurley?

You have to live in a multi-ethnic country to complain about race relations in the US and since you fled the US in fear that excludes you.

What is the trouble with a militarized police force? They are humans, selected for their low IQ and then MILITARIZED. And these overgrown man children become enamored with their toys and become a willing brute squad.

Police are essential, particularly in a country that isn't blessed to be an island and is way behind on excluding firearms.

Unfortunately, there are only two routes to this war ending.

Yes but you got the wrong two. Either this ends at the negotiating table or it ends in nuclear armageddon.

I already explained to you that this is not a board game. It does not end with all pieces being wiped from the board because in reality it hasn't since ancient times. So why do you write rubbish like this?

Ukraine kills all Russian soldiers in Ukraine, or Russia goes home.

Russia's surrender and return to 2014 borders can be done via negotiation once it has been properly humbled on the battlefield.

Or is that just something that pro-Russians claim on the internet, not actually based in reality?

CNN reported in August that most Americans oppose sending more money to Ukraine and the arms industry. Poland has vowed no new contracts with Ukraine.

Yeah people do tend to hate spending money on things. That's why we have representatives to try and do what needs to be done for the children.

Why do you sit here all day and post the knee jerk rubbish you do with zero checks of the facts? Why do the mods let you get away with it?

Somebody is lacking facts all right.

Admiral Sokolov said today in a video that "it is great speaking to you from the bridge of our great flagship Moskva...on Day #2 of our Special Military Operation against Ukraine. You are unaware that Ukrainian and Russian negotiators actually HAD agreed on a peace deal in Istanbul after the initial SMO, before Boris Johnson called Zelenski and ordered them to cancel it and continue fighting instead?

You have to be especially thick to believe that Boris could order Ukraine to not surrender, and even thicker to believe that they wanted to.

But I enjoy a good laugh, so please tell us what leverage he used to enforce this 'order,'

4 ( +11 / -7 )

Zaphod - you don’t get to decide Ukraine’s foreign policy or what their constitution looks like, nor do Putin, nor Biden. That’s for the Ukrainians to decide.

5 ( +9 / -4 )

Zaphod,

some people just don't get it, right! A democratic Ukraine without Russian occupation. So, that includes Crimea and all other illegally occupied areas! A Ukraine the way Ukrainians want it, with all nationalities being welcome and accepted / respected (remember, Jews and other ethnicities don't have any problems, neither do those of Russian origin!). A Ukraine without fear of being invaded again by PUTAin's Russia. And if this requires NATO or EU membership, so be it!

Ukraine prevails!

-3 ( +7 / -10 )

It comes as no suprise that once again I have provided clear names and verifiable evidence and you know about none of them and did not bother to research them either. No. They were all absolutely innocent and unarmed but killed by police while doing nothing all, half in their own home. And that reminds me....Atatiana Jefferson.

Ukraine prevails!

What kind of Ukraine? The one under the current OUN supported regime that celebrates Stepan Banderas birthday, has outlawed all opposition, has been abusing its ethnic Russian population and has asked for nuclear weapons? That one can not prevail.

A Ukraine government after regime change that writes neutrality into its constitution? Absolutely. Neither Putin nor anyone else has any appetite to annex Western Ukraine (the old Galicia). There is a whole background to this that the simplistic media slogans never explain.

-4 ( +8 / -12 )

If these Russia boosters really cared about their country, they'd be more worried about China than the West...

True that. I mean, the most recent territorial maps drawn up by China has Russian territory (agreed by both China and Russia in 2005 to be Russian) included as Chinese territory. Maybe that’s a gift from Russia. Who knows.

7 ( +11 / -4 )

Why do you think China is providing support and assistance to Russia's invasion of Ukraine?

Clearly because it knows it will fail and leave Russia weaker and more easily absorbed into the Sino-sphere...

Oh God. If its not "Russia, Russia, Russai!" its "China, China, China!" What's next? Slenderman?

I wouldn't call Xi "slender"....

China is trading mostly civilian goods with Russia since NATO countries cut them off. Its little more than a business opportunity. The military goods are all non-lethal. And now China is getting great deals on oil and gas.

It sure is getting great deals - and can't wait until Russia is defeated and it can take over the entire Russian oil sector.

This is nothing like America's billions of taxpayer money to the MICC arms industry and Ukraine.

Take a look at a Russian SU-27 and Chinese Shenyang J-11 - and see how China stole Russian technology. They're just waiting for your collapse so they can pick the bones and annex your land...

If these Russia boosters really cared about their country, they'd be more worried about China than the West...

5 ( +11 / -6 )

Our pro-Russia friends here fail to see the obvious...

Why do you think China is providing support and assistance to Russia's invasion of Ukraine?

Clearly because it knows it will fail and leave Russia weaker and more easily absorbed into the Sino-sphere...

A weak Russia will be able to be exploited - for oil and other energy. China will ensure it has a sustainable flow of cheap oil by taking over Russia's oil companies - as they won't be selling that oil to any European countries...

More importantly for China, a weak, defeated Russia could do nothing about China's decades long desire to annex large portions of Russia's southern border - a border these two countries fought a war over in 1969...

NATO wants nothing more than Russia to stay within its borders and not cause mischief to its neighbors...

China wants to turn Russia into a subservient vassal state to be broken up and exploited...

Our pro-Russia friends could use a little studying of Sun Tzu: “If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

The oh so great "Black Sea Fleet" is more or less gone, looking for safer places. Russian civilians are being told to leave Crimea and those aggressor's forces will soon do the same. DDoS attacks continue on Russian airports. And there is more to come, just wait and see.

“Russia could lay down arms and end its war today. Ukraine doesn’t have that option. Ukraine’s surrender would not mean peace. It would mean brutal Russian occupation. Peace at any price would be no peace at all.”

Exactly right. All the faux "pro-negotiation" mob (that is, supporters of Russian aggression in pacifists' clothing) conveniently fail to mention this point. Ukraine and its backers are doing what they must do: driving the evil invaders out.

Russia has said that preventing Ukraine from joining the alliance is one of the reasons for its invasion.

And Putin's war of aggression has done the exact opposite. Finland and Sweden now in NATO; Ukraine - along with others that are fearful of Russian aggression - will be there one day.

The best way to prevent other countries from joining an alliance against you is not to threaten them in the first place. I imagine Putin is well aware of this, but his aims in Ukraine are nothing to do with NATO - they are solely aims of conquest.

Never forget: PUTAin only understands one language - the language of military strength!

Any negotiations, if possible at all, will only encourage him to gain more, attack more sovereign states, especially those who once belonged to the former USSR!

Ukraine prevails!

2 ( +15 / -13 )

"Russian aggression" will end when another inner-circle Putin crony grows tired of his cratering, bumbling war and places a little Novichuk on his doorknob, or he runs out of Iranian drones and North Korean artillery shells and is forced to retreat, or what's left of his Black Sea fleet sits rusting on the bottom of the sea floor...

Our pro-Russian friends here can continue with their faux bravado and bombast - it's entertaining for just how pitiful it is...while Russian defensive lines are cut through, ships sunk, and HQs attacked...

The Potemkin Village of lies that surround the Kremlin will come crashing down...Russia will be defeated, and become even more of a vassal to the Chinese Emperor Xi...who will annex large portions of southern Russia which Putin's successor can do nothing about...

2 ( +15 / -13 )

Mind boggling spin by the Kremlin is what I see. The building and cleanup of the hq is obviously more expensive than a few missiles. What happened to the impenetrable Russian air defenses?

And Russia successfully fooled those NATO intelligence sources into thinking that 34 officers would be holding a meeting in the building at that specific time.

It was a ruse, and it worked.

Ukraine wasted 10 Storm Shadows, costing over $30 million dollars on an empty building.

To top it all off, America's faulty intelligence caused Zelensky to be epically embarrassed by claiming those 34 officers had been hit.

None of those billion dollar US satellites and reconnaissance planes or sources on the ground could confirm whether those generals were alive or dead.

Russia successfully moved them from Sevastopol to Moscow without the US or any other NATO country intelligence service noticing.

Stunning play by the Kremlin.

The Russian troops continue with their murderous war crimes.

Another key takeaway from this article is that France is reluctant to part with more heavy, newer equipment. This is significant as France has a sizeable domestic arms industry.

They have provided large amounts of surplus material in the form of vehicles having been replaced by newer gear, like the AMX-10. The exception being the modern Caesar self-propelled artillery system (50 odd and some more from Denmark).

And they've seen the videos of the Lancet strikes on them. This video shows an example trying to avoid said drone at speed on a main road, with the driver swerving to avoid it (which he does) only for the vehicle to roll multiple times.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L2CuAl4EFjw

-6 ( +12 / -18 )

The conflict is going pear shaped for Kyiv and anyone can see it.

The only mention of the counter offensive is that it "plods", which is an odd way to say all the gifted equipment and the western trained brigades are wrecked and it has been a fiasco from start to finish.

To join NATO, Ukraine will have to push Russia out of everywhere including Crimea - in another words total victory. And anyone can see that's not going to happen soon or ever.

It's really ominous there is no mention of training up thousands of men in western countries again.

This, to me, is the writing on the wall.
