The North Koreans must probably be launching their socks off at the antics of the US Navy. So much for the high tech, expensive ships, they're not much help if run by people who shouldnt be there in the first place. Its going to take a long time for the US to regain some form of Credibility World wide.

The Navy doesn't promote officers for being good watchstanders and stewards of a ship's safe navigation. Jobs like these are considered a stepping stone to higher rank and seamanship is a job to be left behind as soon as possible. The cause is careerism where enlisted and officers get promoted faster by being on staffs, joint assignments, acting in flimsy madeup positions near to corridors of power.
