They are just bored of being inside, and the lack of dopamine stimulus is getting to them.

Is this the post Covid-19 spin on "the poor are just lazy?"

Some people are saying this is an extension of the 2008 Financial Crisis and will clean out all those zombie businesses.

That would be one thing. But it looks more likely that the big zombie corporations will be bailed out by the poor taxpayers and working class, while small and medium sized businesses will instead be killed off - leaving the field open for those cash infused zombie companies to roll along.

I actually think a solution that balances a science-based plan for moving forward with the fact that we live in a money-based society, to move forward in a safe manner, while maintaining our economy.

Unfortunately however, the cries of those who say 'open up the economy' rarely seem to have any scientific basis behind this claim. They are just bored of being inside, and the lack of dopamine stimulus is getting to them.

@Northernlife:

the economy is more important than peoples lives to you do you have children

Do you think the economy is separate from peoples lives? Do you think you and your children can live with a destroyed economy?

The report above is perhaps not clear in it's description of the benefits being paid

. In part, "business" employees who have been stood down or dismissed as result of the convid virus effect on business receive $1550 per fortnight from the business, funded by a payment from the government. The object is to keep employees associated with their employer so that when conditions improve business staff will already on the books and available to work. Other persons, eg those not associated with a business and/or not employed receive a benefit, as a jobseeker payment, of $1115 per fortnight and a little more if there are dependants. Of course other social services are also available. The object of the government, as I hear it, is that all unemployed will receive some benefit during this difficult period.

Seems governments have a sudden flurry of cash....yeah dont they own something called a mint...

Inflation, anyone?

Only problem is there will be far fewer businesses left to reopen.

Kinda hard to reopen your business when you're either on a respirator or dead.

Sez someone who hasn't had their business closed and / or doesn't currently have to worry about where their next meal is coming from.

Kinda hard to find a respirator to get on or get enough to eat to stay alive when there's a deep depression.

Even if the economy completely opened up again right now, we're going to be in a recession for the next several months at least.

Sweden has managed to get herd immunity

Complete nonsense. Any evidence to back up this wild claim? Didn't think so.

The term "herd immunity" seems to be thrown around by armchair "experts" everywhere. I'll listen to the educated ones - Medical Professionals and Epidemiologists who say it is virtually impossible without vaccinations.

Sweden, by the way, currently has the 6th highest Covid-19 mortality rate IN THE WORLD. And things there are getting worse, theyve just had one of their deadliest days. No sign of flattening the curve.

Sweden has managed to get herd immunity, their statistics are similar to Britain's except Britain has been under lock down - the quicker the worlds economies reopen the quicker we all get through this.

Read history Black Plague changed the feudal order, Spanish flu killed more than died in WW1. AIDS changed interaction. Expecting and seeing this latest virus change work habits and the way life is ordered. Telework for example my daughters work from home now, and really don't want to back to the office. There are positive outcomes. Not if you are 28 and die of course. My point adapt. Seems governments have a sudden flurry of cash. Where was that when you are unemployed?

Yes, doctor's orders, I am afraid. You must destroy the economy and create a global depression. It's good for you.

I think what a lot of people are failing to realise is that now is far from being the right time to reopen. With over 1000 cases still active in NSW alone, the risk of a second wave undoing all that we've achieved so far is too strong. The longer the virus is out in the wild, the longer and more severe the economic fallout will be. If people would just have the self-discipline to stay home and self isolate, for 6 weeks, and this was followed strictly, then the virus would simply die out and the process of economic recovery can truly begin. The problem is that people can't seem to keep to quarantine. Definitely a tough balancing act for governments to handle.

Reopen now.

No, no, there might be a second wave! Have to keep it locked down until the "experts" tell us it's safe to reopen.

Only problem is there will be far fewer businesses left to reopen.

Reopen now.
