“Hamas is backing out of the understandings and creating a last-minute crisis that prevents a settlement,” Netanyahu's office said.

Remarkable statement from a guy who is attempting to kill as many Palestinians as he can, before a ceasefire takes affect.

I've been to Israel, went there in the 90s. Prior to visiting, I probably held the passive view of many Westerners fed through the pro-Israeli/US media that Israel was a plucky little country just trying to hunker down and hold its own humble plot of land in the badlands of the Muslim world.

Once I got there, I realised there was a completely different reality at play that the Western media does not report on in any kind of balanced way. Travel does that for you.

I saw the oppression, the subjugation, the land stealing, the marginalisation and abject abuse of the Palestinian people. The imbalance was extremely pronounced, and what it does is create a hotbed of resentment, anger, injustice and ultimately reprisal, because....we are all human, and that's what humans do. That's what we would ALL do in the same situation.

But this past 15 or 16 months, Israel has matured and morphed into a truly ghastly Demon - a killing and murder monster state that the US has fully armed and endorsed and most of the rest of the world has just stepped back and watched. The groups who have stepped in to help on one side are apparently 'terrorists', whilst the others on the Israeli side strangely are not. The magic of semantics and who gets to tell the narrative.

What Israel has done to the people of Palestine for 70 odd years is bad, what they have done in the last 15 months is genocidal evil.

Israel is still bombing Gaza. 80 people were killed last night.

The truth hurts,

For those curious the full text of the agreement is available here.

https://www.middleeasteye.net/news/israel-gaza-ceasefire-full-text-agreement

But when you kill 72 people (21 of whom were children) whilst on the verge of a ceasefire I think that's a good indicator for how seriously Netanyahu takes the idea of a ceasefire.

I assume that Trump, who predictably claimed credit for the ceasefire, is now having his speechwriters draw up two different speeches: one pretending that he never said it (if the ceasefire fails to hold) and the other claiming that he personally went to Tel Aviv and told Netanyahu that he'd give him a punch in the nose if he didn't honor the agreement.

Netanyahu has a less than stella reputation when it comes to dealing with US presidents and diplomats. He's not afraid of irking the main benefactors he relies on to conduct his wars and occupations.

"Don't bite the hand that feeds" is not a part of Bibi's vocabulary. Maybe someone needs to teach him.

That SOB is lying through his teeth. He's rejected ceasefires AT LEAST 3 times before, and now he's trying to do it again.

Netanyahu's office accused Hamas of reneging on parts of the agreement in an attempt to gain further concessions — without specifying which parts.

Surprise surprise.

It is not Hamas, it is the extreme right in Israel holding up the agreement. Those who want to exterminate or expel all non Jews from Gaza.

Tamarama

Well said, and all the lies perpetrated by the present and past US administrations, as well as Israel, responsible in egual measure of this genocide while the usual lobbies have a drink watching NFL  by their pools in Florida.

They should make a statue to this guy:

One of the many pro-Palestinian commenters here said the following words on a similar page the other day:

Victory to Hamas, The IDF is defeated. Hamas won the battle of Gaza and will soon win the war. Israel population is now a minority and will not last the year. Hoo Hah Hamas.

(my emboldening - NB)

Yes, you want that the Jewish immigrants, who immigrated back to their land of origin after surviving the 1940s in Europe, will all perish soon under the knives of Hamas, with their children, and will not last the year. Yet at this moment we are still alive:

""Hamas denied the claims, with Izzat al-Rishq, a senior Hamas official, saying the militant group “is committed to the ceasefire agreement, which was announced by the mediators.”"

Poor Bibi, The U.S. or Someone needs to Guarantee Bibi's survival and the agreement will go as planned.

Facing possible time in the Joint is not an easy thing to live with, Bibi is facing two courts and chances are he will end up behind bars soon after the collapse of his government.

""Yes, you want that the Jewish immigrants, who immigrated back to their land of origin after surviving the 1940s in Europe, ""

NEVER was " Their Land "

Their land is where they came from in Europe like Poland, Germany, Hungary, Ukraine, and so on.

Jews who has lived and still live in Palestine and the rest of the middle east never Left their lands and never migrated.

-2 ( +3 / -5 )

Their land is where they came from in Europe like Poland, Germany, Hungary, Ukraine, and so on.

These lands like Poland, Germany, Hungary, Ukraine are the lands were they were murdered in gas chambers and other cruel methods.

The Jews returned to their land of origin, which was invaded by Muslims in the 7th century AD. But what about various other immigrants throughout the world? Do you propose to butcher them all along with their children?

It's insane how the closer one gets to a cease-fire, the more heavier the bombardment and killing become. (I understand the strategic rationale but still...) Normally, you would think that things would ease up instead.

"Hamas is backing out of the understandings and creating a last-minute crisis that prevents a settlement,” Netanyahu's office said."

Perhaps Hamas got their marching order from their handlers. Initially, it was a wise for Mossad to wipe out these handlers before hammering Hamas. First cut the head last deal with the tail.

-7 ( +2 / -9 )

Hamas ACCEPTS THE RIGHT OF ISRAEL TO EXIST BASED ON THE TWO NATION STATES THAT WERE IN PLACE IN 1967.

If, I, a blogger, can find this out, I expect a paid jounalist to do the same.

Secondly, Hamas is not only a military state.

Who runs the hospitals, collects the garbage. repairs roads ,funds schools and Universities.

There will never be peace when the Israeli side lies, convinces the west of its lies and refuses to budge an inch.

3 ( +8 / -5 )

And Hamas did not TRIGGER the war ...it was predictable consequenceof keeping millions of Gazan imprisoned, without access to clean water, food, under constant attack and bombarddment and in conditions that would make a peace nik explode.

Good god ....can we move into reality now 45000 people have been murdered , or are we returning to the fake lies of the Israeli side.

It will magically get done at 12:01 Jan. 20 D.C. time.

Ben Gvir...Israel Security Minister say he will quit the coalition if the hostage deal goes ahead and there is a ceasefire.

BUT will rejoin the coalition should the war restart.

from Times of Israel...today.

See....these are the types of "people "Israel has in Government, in senior position.

War mongers would be the least you could call them

Like with Trump, believing the claims of Netanyahu or his underlings is a good way of making yourself look foolish.

Unfortunately, there are lots of people who would prefer to look foolish than to be the target of unrelenting insults, smears, and threats.

0 ( +3 / -3 )

Bibi is lying as usual. The "crisis" he faces is that some members of his cabinet oppose any cessation of hostilities with Hamas and are threatening to topple his government.

3 ( +6 / -3 )

Netanyahu knows he'll be out of office once peace is achieved.

The Jews were run out of Israel by Nebuchadnezzar long before Mohammed was born. By the time Christ was born, seven centuries before Mohammed, Israel was governed by the Romans. The Greeks follow, then the Ottomans. The Syrians are in there somewhere before the Romans. And before the Israelites arrived there were the Philistines, whos ancestors we call the Palestinians.

2 ( +5 / -3 )

I believe the ancient Romans gave the are now known as Palestine, the name of "Palestina "

Thats a pretty ancient claim to a land.

Much older than 1948

Whatever the history we have two people living on one land. If they can't find a way to live together wars and conflicts will continue.
