"So what exactly is the truth about hot dogs?"

They taste really bad with ketchup on them. They taste really good with dijion mustard and DelMonte sweet relish though!

I don't eat hotdogs because I hate a vegetarian diet. I eat hotdogs because I hate animals.

I'm with Superlib on this one.

Heh, banning hotdogs would cause rioting in the US that would make Paris subhurbs kids jealous.

"pig snouts and stomachs, cow lips and livers, goat gullets and lamb spleens."

Nowhere near as questionable as the raw horsemeat, baby squid, chicken cartilage, or various insects I've consumed while here in Japan.

They will kill you. People, there is no real need to eat beef or pork. Stop it. Eat chicken/Turkey twice a month, substitute you taste of beef and pork with fish. And would you all really start learning that you can make a steak or hamburger from Tofu..

For those so called environmentally aware types out there, if you eat meat such as beef or pork, you are doing just as much damage as the oil companies are. Do you know how much forest needs to be cleared just to raise several cows?

skip -

You're moving in the right direction, but there's no need to eat chicken or turkey or fish, either.

And adding green lentils to the tofu makes a wicked burger!

I thought a hot dog was just a sausage in a bun, but a quick Google brought up several pages claiming that the main ingredient in a hot dog was meat. You can't say that of sausages....

Can't start young enough in educating them about the dangers of patriotism. Go after apple pie next.

There are some animal parts that are banned for human consumption in my country yet I ate them during a visit to the USA, yet in my country we eat some animals that no american would touch.

Just different food cultures(neither better nor correct), I don't tell you what to eat or not to it and expect the same courtesy in return.

That is one of the reason why I like to travel to sample different foods and try stuff I can't get back home.

Just my view.

Moderator: Stay on topic please. The subject is hot dogs.

Hey ! Lay off the dog ! in light of the recent story here at Japantoday about food waste, it seems to me that the hotdog is a pretty efficient little food source. too bad they are so expensive here in Japan, almost a buck a dog- and thats without the bun, mustard, or relish !

If people eat sensibly and exercise regulary, thyen a hot dog now and then will do you no harm.

If you eat lots of processed meats daily, then youre probably obese, but its not your fault it`s your glands.

All proccessed meats are unhealthy, maybe hot dogs were the easiest trget.
