Fear of equality seems to be a defining trait of those in Q / Z movements and the global alt right.

Yeah, and then when the leftist policies they sang for have ruined the cities and towns as pleasant places to live, they take their money and move to the most rural, traditional parts of the country still untainted and buy a big house there to 'get away from it all', eh, Billy?

Question is, are they selected based on competence and experience?

If the choice for Minister for Small Business is any guide, no. According to her entry on Wikipedia, the Hon Julie Collins has never owned a small business and there is no mention of her ever working in one either (although she may have when she was a student). Instead, she's been a pubic servant of a political staffer for her entire career. And she's a member of the famously business-friendly Labor Left faction.

Glad I don't have a small business in Australia right now.

Maybe he meant "get away with it all".

These politicians rarely get held accountable for the damage they wreak. Even then booted out, most of them land a cushy job thanks to their parliamentary connections. Not much different to Japan's amakudari.

Japan is all talk about Womenomics, and Australia appears to be all action. Imagine how inspired girls and young women must be there.

Exactly. I think betting on a 3-legged horse to win would have better odds than

actual Womenonics in Japan. Congrats to everyone in Australia.

Maybe that's why so many of them are terrible at their jobs.

Ever considered that?

So you would prefer the ministers to be industry insiders to their respective roles ? With all the protection of vested interests, collusion, price-fixing, favouritism. Sounds like the worst people for the job to me.

Mr Kipling:

Penny Wong is also an Asian lesbian. That kills three birds with one stone. Three boxes checked.

150 seats and 13 women. How is that amazing?

Diversity hiring, what could possibly go wrong.

Let's just see the fruit from this tree. If the fruit is not good, then chop it down.

I believe she’s left handed too

(slaps forehead)

Don't you think some practical industry knowledge would help in having some insight into the challenges and opportunities facing a certain field or portfolio? One doesn’t need to be a corrupt insider to understand an industry. You’d rather have someone who knows little to nothing about their portfolio, and in the case of this minister for small business, someone who is ideologically opposed to it, in charge? They might have advisors, but if their advisors have little knowledge as well then the people affected by the minister’s decisions will be up the creek.

By your logic, the attorney-general shouldn’t be a lawyer, right? Even though a lawyer with career experience outside politics would be far more likely than a career politician/party hack to have a broad understanding of the issues affecting the field.

Wow Who cares

You cared enough to post about it. So obviously you care.

This is not news

And yet, here you are reading and commenting on it. So yes, it is.

Not every politician elected to a seat becomes a minister.

…and you wonder why you continue to be unemployed.

13 women, that's fantastic. Antony also refused to swear on the bible or make mention of the queen during the PM swearing in ceremony, what a guy.

Congratulations Oz! Making 13 female ministers is a huge step forward. I mean, how can they do any worse than the male idiots put in charge by the former Prime Idiot, Scott Morrison? Yes, that idiot who can sing in tongues but wasn’t sure what he should do after a young female staffer was raped by one of his party’s officials inside Parliament House. And holidayed secretly in Hawaii as bushfires ravaged Australia.

As odious as Morrison was, the quality of a cabinet past or present doesn't depend on how many X or Y chromosomes its members have, it's up to their competence and honesty. Both of which which seem to be in short supply among all the major parties.
