And yet the truth is that Trump had NO PLAN at all for vaccine distribution and administration. NO PLAN. Luckily Biden didn't expect much and ramped up his own plan.

The great unanswerable...
As seen in comments here, Trump supporters say he was the key to the vaccines being developed and say he deserves all the credit...
Trump and Melania got the vaccine in January....
Trump told his supporters in March; “I would recommend it, and I would recommend it to a lot of people that don’t want to get it, and a lot of those people voted for me, frankly,”
So why do almost half of his male supporters refuse the vaccine? The one they say he created and that he recommends they get?

Wow this sounds just like dying with corona isn’t the same as dying from corona. Another convenient flip flop.

Still you have those cultist sheep listening to the loudmouth lunatics. And since summer technically starts in about a week there is a danger of a relapse because these CoVidiots are going to act like it's just another day. Just watch.

On the subject of USA, I was just watching Lauren Karen Boebert, one of the gun-toting conspiracy-spreading politicians go on one of those crazy loony-tunes right-wing channels and say since Texas lifted the mask-wearing requirement two months, Texas has not seen one single covid-related death.
Reality: over 3,500 covid-related deaths in Texas during the last two months. This is the sort of lies being propagated by the swamp.
Leo
I will not get the vaccine. Somehow I am still alive. My brother had covid and had very mild symptoms.
Leo
Do people know that they will need a booster shot every 8 months or so?

Burning Bush:
Taking liberties with timelines, I see. A LOT has happened since the fat guy left for exile. Large scale vaccinations has been key. You probably feel right at home in Japan with its lack of vaccinations. Although, I expect you don't wear masks in public, right?
lincolnman
Then once again, why are almost half of Trump supporting Repub men refusing to take his vaccine?

Which one? The vaccines or HCQ, Clorox and blue lights?
Absolutely true - after promising 62 times and four years, there ain't no wall...

No, there was no program. No plan.
Don’t forget, the ex President disbanded the pandemic response team in 2018 because Obama had pushed for it. Cut funding or closed the agencies who were ready for this. He dismissed repeated warnings about an imminent pandemic and avoided daily briefings once the pandemic was well underway.
Don’t forget that.
Jsapc
The Trump response was incompetence and willful malfeasance, nothing else:

I think it's a combination of people that have recovered from the virus, a +40% vaccination rate, and a very good above 65% at least one shot (from the two shot regiment). I think 80% in a combined fashion can happen by July.
How's Japan doing? Well, they need to hold more meetings, so a panel can recommend another round of conferences so the can decide to actually make a decision. I mean, they should have allowed someone other than doctors to give shots, approve the vaccines faster, and make a plan for mass distribution.
Blacklabel
So the Trump response was create vaccine- reopen- vaccinate people who want it- back to normal life.
isn’t that also the Biden plan? He didn’t do anything at all differently. Except that he was given the vaccine before he started.
Never even did that “federal mask mandate” yet somehow corona decreasing without it.

The Trump vaccine saved America though biden nearly blew it with nearly 190,000 dying so far in his short presidency. biden inherited a silver bullet and a vaccination program that had reached one million shots a day in a few short weeks. Like Gov Cuomo and other Dems it’s too bad biden’s fecklessness and poor management (eg the poor J&J approval and suspension) caused so many unnecessary deaths. Don’t forget- biden had nothing to do with getting the covid vaccines developed and approved in record time. He didn’t build that.

"Everyone is still wearing masks in every store I go to in the US"
Here in Ohio stores like Walmart, Target and Kroger have started to allow the vaccinated to skip wearing masks. Granted, I'm pretty sure no one is stopping people at the door to ask if you have your vaccination card on you.
At least not at the Kroger and Walmart I went to this week...but I have mine, just in case :)

Amazing what competent management can do to address a crisis, or hoax as the republicans called the deadly virus early on last year. This proves what I have said for decades now, republicans cannot manage government at all, they simply fail at everything. Only democrats actuality get things done and make progress. Florida 3406 cases reported today, Florida has been proven to under report cases, and California 778. And California has nearly twice the population of Florida. Huge difference in outcome. Top ten states for infections per million people has nine republican states and only one democratic. Failure, incompetence, fake. Three words that describe the Trump party. Corruption is a given.
Happy Day
Vaccination rates are irrelevant at this point. There is significant immunity (herd?) built in to the U.S. population. Those waiting for 80% vaccination rates will be waiting a long time.
Erik Morales
Biden has done real good! Applause to Biden and his cabinet for getting the virus under control.
bass4funk
He did and so did Fauci, Cuomo, Newsom, Whitmer, WHO, the CDC, and many, many others, and oh, let's not forget China as well, the main culprit in all of this.
Eisenach
As the seven-day average for new cases dropped below 30,000 per day this week, Rochelle Walensky, the director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, pointed out cases have not been this low since June 18, 2020. The average number of deaths over the last seven days also dropped to 552
and Japan?
5000 case and 106 deaths.

Biden's efforts to get the nation vaccinated are bearing fruit. It is unfortunate that a large minority has been convinced not to get immunized.
I hope that the US will rapidly expand its ability to manufacture the highly efficacious Pfizer, Moderna, and Johnson & Johnson vaccines, and become a supplier to the world. Most countries cannot manufacture vaccines, and even among those that can, most of those do not make the highly effective vaccines. I read an article which said that the vaccine being exported by China is less than 50% effective in real world field-testing.
u_s__reamer
Thanks to Biden's pro-active measures the virus may soon be on its way out, but the seeds of confusion, obfuscation and mis- and disinformation sowed by his incompetent and malicious predecessor still pose the danger of another wave among the millions of the great unwashed and unvaccinated.
Peter Neil
If they're vaccinated, I think it's great. If they're not, they'll be the ones getting happily and "freedomly" sick.
It's really quite simple, isn't it?
joey stalin
No, I don't think so.
"As of May 1, 2021, CDC transitioned from monitoring all reported vaccine breakthrough cases to focus on identifying and investigating only hospitalized or fatal cases due to any cause. This shift will help maximize the quality of the data collected on cases of greatest clinical and public health importance. Previous case counts, which were last updated on April 26, 2021, are available for reference only and will not be updated moving forward."

And indeed the "Experts" were right. After Florida dropped their mask mandate, new cases did indeed rise. And Florida has the highest number of new cases than any other state.
But people are getting vaccinated thanks to Biden's excellent handling of the virus rollout, which is driving the falling numbers despite the unwise dropping of the mask mandates in some states.

They are free and happy is fine, if they are vaccinated. That shows they aren't selfish and are doing this little thing to reduce the mutation possibilities for COVID. That's good for their community, state, country and the world.
Not being selfish is an admirable human trait too.
Tom Doley
Exactly.
After all this fiasco, my conclusion is Japan has their own numbering system. To convert to globally accepted numbers, some Japanese numbers require a multiplication of 1000, whilst others a division by 1000.
otherworldly
Really? I am at the home center as we speak and about 80 percent of the people are not wearing masks. They are free and happy.
The Avenger
Big thanks to everyone who did their part and got vaccinated.
I nominate Dr. Fauci for the American Medal of Great Heroes, Profiles in Courage Award, Scientist of the Year, Physician of the Year, All-Time Great Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Medicine, and the Standing Up to Losers Award. Can I get a second? All in favor say aye.
Arrrgh-Type
The US has a great opportunity to crush the virus. Don't let it go to waste. Get vaccinated, people.
theFu
I've used less than 10 masks in the last year, yet followed the CDC recommendations for wearing a mask always.
Everything doesn't need to be political about covid.
I haven't seen anything which backs this statement. Is there a published report? There are reports from a year ago about masks being effective to help block. And we have lots of published proof that the vaccines are effective - the mRNA are highly effective.
Around here, people under 30 are testing positive the last 2 weeks the most with the 18-29 yr olds much more likely to become infected. Guess they want to be single and mingle?
Peter Neil
Everyone is still wearing masks in every store I go to in the US. It's vaccinations and continued mask use that's making the number go down.
The people catching are the ones without masks... duh.
virusrex
A very positive development that emphasizes very nicely what are the immediate benefits of safe and effective vaccines against an infectious disease, probably everybody but antivaxxers are happy about this. The risks of course are not zero and vigilance against new variants is now extremely important, but relaxing social distancing measures is also important as long as the new number of cases and deaths keep decreasing.
Masks mandates are not the same as mask use. This is like saying that Japan demonstrate masks are not useful against COVID because it never had a mask mandate. It is also important that mask are not meant to be a stand-alone measure that can protect efficiently by itself, as long as people learnt to practice correctly all measures they can keep their risk levels low.
Commodore Perry
At least these numbers can be trusted.
