Right. Badmouthing witnesses, jurors and others involved in the case is such a central part of Trump's "core political speech".
Guess he'll have to spend more time badmouthing dishwashers, windmills, electric boats, and sharks.

Give it up Donald. It's not unconstitutional.
Time would be better spent preparing for your debate with Biden.
GuruMick
Same Judge who imposed the gag order to rule if it should continue.
Not sure about this BUT ad hominin attacks on staff etc at Courts certainly not a Constitutional issue.
Trump should be on first name terms with most Court staff, at least in New York.
John
It’s not the same judge it’s the court of appeals, 2 of whom recused themselves because of previous cases involving Trump. (Sidebar: judicial ethics- how refreshing)
So The felon in Chief won’t be able to attack witnesses or dox jurors.
Golly, what a shame.
It’s an election interference case - that’s what the felony is about.
This is a protection order, not a gag order. It protects specific parties against specific harm. It does not gag Trump from speaking.
And he did it to himself through his own words and actions.
Ah_so
Anything involving Trump is a theater of the absurd.
bass4funk
Why is there a need for a gag order continuing? The jury has rendered the verdict, that won’t be affected by anything but an appeal in NY. Or Merchan sentencing him? It’s NY , he was already judged guilty when the indictment was issued.
But they can bad mouth him and in the U.S., all of a sudden and under our constitution where he has the absolute to address his accusers, but here he’s not. No wonder the Wiley Dems tried to get this sham trial state level in NY.
Just wait until the gag order is finally lifted, I’m getting my popcorn.
Hervé L'Eisa
It's NY, corrupted by partisan hacks throughout the NY courts.
It (and others) will be overturned outside of NY.
lincolnman
Too bad...I was so looking forward to him truthfully telling his supporters again that "I don't care about you, I just want your vote"....
And I hope this gag doesn't apply to his praise of Hannibal Lector...we need to hear more of what a "wonderful man" he is...
Bob Fosse
He had his chance to speak in court but wimped out. It’s not as if he has anything new or important to say anyway.
But thanks to the constitution and founding fathers he is still able to use his very wide platform to talk gibberish and dance to YMCA as much as he wants.
Blacklabel
Of course they refuse to even hear it. Part of the plan.

Blacklabel
Oh, so now you are questioning the integrity of the NY appeals court?
What ever happened to the party of personal responsibility? Everything that happens to Trump is always someone else's fault.
Pathetic.
John
Was filing an appeal with no legal reasoning or merit also “part of the plan”? lol.

TokyoOldMan
No, it's the The Empire State.
Blacklabel
Is this that appeals court that has 21 total members and 21 Democrats?
Blacklabel
They “declined to hear it”
because if they hear it they know they have to rule it’s unconstitutional.
Bob Fosse
It’s the appeals court that has 21 highly qualified and experienced members. How easy do you think it is to become a member?
Maybe if you ask nicely they’ll allow him to appeal in Florida. Oh no wait, hang on. That won’t work. Cannon the 45 appointed judge there also recently rejected his lawyers. Maybe she’s secretly a Democrat.
Express sister
Because he still poses a threat to the jury.
Strangerland
I think she's going to wait until a week or two out from the election, so it's fresh in ALL the Swifties' minds.
John
Correct. Sorry to burst your bubble belit cases without a compelling question don’t get heard by busy courts with large case loads.
Wrong and laughably so.
Because the case had no merit. Just like so many other cult appeals to higher courts.
Strangerland
This means that when trump is sentenced, it will take into consideration the fact that he defied the judges legal order 10 times in criminal contempt of court for which he was found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, on top of the 34 felonies.
I didn’t previously think trump would get jail time but over time as I’ve heard more about how this works, it’s hard to think he won’t.
Strangerland
Ahh the far right extemists have a new Qonspiracy. They’re crying wolf again. And again. And again. And again. And again. And again.
plasticmonkey
MAGA heads' idea of fun: stuffing themselves with popcorn while listening to their potty-mouthed cult leader badmouthing witnesses, jurors, and anyone who doesn't "like" him. And whining about dishwashers, windmills, electric boats, sharks, teleprompters that don't work, and so many other things that are "unfair" to him.
BTW, playing the victim isn't gaining Trump any new voters.
Strangerland
When an appellate court (court of appeal) declines to hear a case, it is 100% of the time because there is no merit to the appeal. That’s how the system works in America.
Strangerland
Me too, because such behaviour will be put into consideration in his future sentencing for his other crimes.
And I guarantee that statement just educated some of the lesser knowing among us. They didn’t realize the system works this way.
bass4funk
No, he didn’t, had a chance to comment on anything except for the people that accused him of small NDA misdemeanor case.
It is, that’s why the Dems last and very slim shot is to try and get him in state court knowing that this sham would never fly in the Federal system.
And go to the Supreme Court, but I get it, Joe is taking on a lot of water, so much so that Julia Robert’s and George Clooney won’t be able to save him.
What?
He's not playing it, he is, big difference.
Strangerland
yeah, he probably should have chosen to testify. Look at what his choice to not testify led to - a guilty verdict.
Very incompetent of him.
Strangerland
No one is a bigger victim than Trump. Just ask him, he'll tell you. Of course he'll also tell you no one is less of a victim than he is, if you ask him five minutes later.
Dementia is a hell of a disease.
bass4funk
If I can’t address my accuser as per the constitution to the charges of alleged crimes (so to speak) why say anything? Makes no sense. If you punch me, tie my hands up and tell me to defend myself, not going to happen.
Smart of him indeed.
bass4funk
They don’t have to, the Single White and Black Women can focus on abortion and Biden and the rest of the country will focus on the real issues, border, crime, fossil fuels, illegal, economy, Trump needs to just continue speaking on those issues, Biden continues to eat his dust.
UChosePoorly
Blacklabel - I am not a lawyer, but I should be able to help you out with this one nevertheless. The State of NY is the accuser in this case and he had the right to take the stand as all Americans do, but he declined probably because he was afraid of cross-examination.
Strangerland
I don't know. Wasn't my choice. It was his, but he clearly chose wrong in his incompetence.
Strangerland
It was smart of him to choose a route that resulted in him being a convicted felon?
Well sure, if you think his testimony would have been even more damaging than the lack of it. Which, when you think about it, it probably would have been, considering the man is quickly slipping into a dementia full of electric motorboats and sharks.
bass4funk
Lol, yeah, I know….
And rightfully so.
Strangerland
As can the brothers, fathers of daughters, and sons of mothers in America.
Women's health affects everyone. That's why it's been THE winning topic on every vote since Dobbs.
And why the idea that Biden could lose in November laughable. The Republicans want to ban IVF and contraception, Biden wants to protect women's right to body autonomy.
Strangerland
Well for once, you're correct. It was both his right, and choice, to testify or not. He chose not to.
Not our problem. And definitely his problem, seeing as he's now a convicted felon.
What percentage of independents do you think will be ok voting for a convicted felon. Do you think 100%?
UChosePoorly
There were over 43 million single women in the US in 2022.
UChosePoorly
Democrats have over-performed in every single special election since the Dobbs decision came down. Every single one. Much more useful than polls at this point are actual elections.

Pft. As if anyone's actually going to punch Donald Trump. Why would anyone tell you not to defend yourself after tying you up?
Can't say I liked her much but for a masterclass in responding to criticism see what Margaret Thatcher said when they asked her about Spitting Image.
Strangerland
Only morons believe polls, the righties educated us on that in 2017. Elections are the ONLY thing that can be trusted.
And Trump backed candidates lost in 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023. Only 2023 was post-Dobbs.
Biden already beat Trump. Add abortion to that, and there is zero worry that Trump could win come November. Only morons who believe polls could think otherwise.
Bob Fosse
If you don’t understand the process of a criminal trial by now you never will.

A huge leftist fan on this article! Trump 2024!!
