That applies to humans too, @MarkG, as you may observe on the rush hour trains.

A recent scientific report declares that chimp, gorilla, monkey species should not be used as pet, and they belong to the wild. They are "beings" and "entities" of the natural world that deserve protection and respect, but not "person" as human. It is a case of extreme abusing of liberalism at its best. What next, a gold fish is a person who deserves welfare check?

They should rule them persons and then make it legal to torture and kill them. Humans are disgusting animals, as are our closest relatives.

Are you kidding me? Have we digressed enough to consider an animal "Legal Personhood"? Or am I wrong and this is called progressive!

Any animal removed from it's natural environment is a form of imprisonment for them. Some less intelligent (as we perceive it) seem to not know the difference. More intelligent animals are indeed bored and depressed.

We digressed a long time ago when we gave legal personhood to corporations. It seems to me that chimps are much more deserving.

There's a price that comes with personhood.

Put them in the wild, but buy out the land from under their feet because they never pay rent.

Make them earn their bananas by working 8 hours a day - and make them beg us to give them work.

Declare their infants citizens of the country they happen to be born in and if they happen to cross the imaginary line we call a "country border", require passports, visas and health checks.

Lambaste them for not wearing clothes, not celebrating Christmas and not eating meat. What a bunch of godless hippies!

Welcome to personkind, Chimps!

MarkG, I actually agree with this. It's possible to sit and have a conversation with a chimp about God and love and death using sign language. They clearly are not for us to just enslave and (in the case of Africa) kill for meat.
