The Trump Foundation? - It's clearly a slush fund for Trump to look generous using other people's money. Trump has not made a donation to his foundation since 2008.

All Americans should be ashamed at politically motivated "criminal" investigations, which this seems to be. No irregularities are cited, yet Trump's foundation is being investigated in the name of justice just before an election. This is what banana republics do, and it's sad to see how many Americans are fine with that.

Let's see Trump, a man who frequently bragged about playing the money card with politicians, illegally donated $25,000 to the Attorney General of Florida. She had ultimate responsibility for deciding whether or not investigate his bogus university. Shorty thereafter the department lost interest in the investigation. If this were Clinton, Republicans would be firing up multiple investigations and demanding she be prosecuted.

Who else is on his payroll? If these charges are true then he has a lot to answer for. In the interests of the election we should have an investigation done quickly, but we need to be sensitive of the timing. We need to have Bondi's documents examined and full access to her emails, as well as those from her assistants. Now Trump hasn't been charged yet, but if convicted he would be a criminal running for President. Maybe he should do the decent thing and step down.

If those numbers are correct (and I'm sure they are), the Clinton Foundation has really been doing good. As I've said before, Bill Clinton would be crazy to establish such a foundation for his or his wife's own benefit knowing the level of scrutiny that it would receive. Now it seems that Trump's 'foundation' is the dodgy one!

serendipitous, they do great work. Unlike most charities, which collect money and then donate it to others who actually implement action, the Clinton Foundation does most of their own work themselves. They focus on well-being initiatives in Africa and Haiti including education and health, sustainable farming, and entrepreneurialism. Even those well-intentioned individuals who dislike the Clintons admire the work the Clinton Foundation does.

It must be disheartening for Hillary supporters to see the explosion of uploads on Youtube from people offended by people in Hillary's basket of deplorables.

Not as disheartening, I wouldn't have thought, as it must be for a sane, sensible Republican to reflect on the fact that no matter how many smart, gifted people there are in the party or how weak Clinton is as a candidate, the best they have to throw at her is Donald Trump and that she's not miles behind in the polls.

Ownership of "the black community?" -- Surely, this has to be one of the most bizarro-world statements ever posted on JT.

In reality, liberals -- starting with FDR -- have claimed a sense of responsibility for the problems that plague communities where large numbers live below the poverty line. We have had the audacity to believe that government OF the people can be a powerful force to improve things. You know, active involvement rather than leaving things to the "unseen hand" of market forces and the magic of tax cuts for the wealthy.

Whatever time Trump wants to return America to that was "great," i'm betting the top marginal tax rate was above 50% on the wealthiest Americans.

I do not know how victimization is "appropriated" -- another VERY bizarre thought-construct. The more that liberal programs -- like Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, etc -- have improved the lot of Americans on the lower end of the economic curve, it would be fair to claim that the "liberal agenda" has been a positive good.

As a Jew, I have always found being lectured to by right wing Christians off all stripes what is best for me and all Jews, and how, as Jews me, my relatives, and my people, can improve ourselves quite helpful, indeed lauditory.

I very much appreciate their altruistic desire to improve me -- and all Jews-- in their image, and and amazed at how much they get us! Really, they speak for me better than I ever could, and indeed, even when I think I disagree with them.

Because they have it right. They know whats best for me, and if I would only just listen, I'd realize how stupid I and all jews have been.

George Lakoff wrote 'Conservatism is based on a strict father model while liberalism is centered around a nurturant parent model'. Lakoff's take on how the right uses language more effectively than the left to manipulate its followers is spot on. Some JT readers could do a dissertation on how language is used by posters here. Textbook stuff. And interesting, too.

I like Lakoff's explanations of how we use metaphors and language, and how metaphors and language are used to manipulate us.

But I read Brave New World and 1984 when I was young and admit they still affect how I see things.

The Democratic Party that brought Americans Social Security. medicare, etc. bears no more resemblance to the contemporary Democrats than the party of Lincoln and Emancipation bears to the Tea Party. Both parties are facing a very similar challenge in that more extreme elements within their ranks are maneuvering to usurp the the existing party establishment and replacing it with a system more aligned with their ideology. Unfortunately there doesn't appear to be another FDR in the lot of them.
