Tragic. I hope this is slowing and most make a full and speedy recovery.

Can you believe the US is talking about re-opening the economy in 2 weeks? If they do, their deaths and problems will TRIPLE. Money is not everything.

It seems to have peaked or is peaking, with the global death toll far below that of last year's WHO figures of 650,000 for a different type of infectious disease.

Gee, if only we had listened to you and done nothing, we could have vastly exceeded that record.

It's called the Swedish model.

You might also add that Sweden's death toll is several times higher than that of neighboring countries like Norway and Finland.

There is a cost to that model.

Countless doctors across the country are blowing the whistle on "coronavirus deaths" and are stating that if they don't log people as "dead from coronavirus" even when they clearly did not die from the virus that they face severe discipline. People that have absolutely no need to be on a respirator are also forced onto them because for a hospital admission FOR CORONAVIRUS, (EVERY CASE) medicare automatically pays $11,000 and when someone is put on a respirator, Medicare automatically pays $39,000.

So there's SERIOUS motivation for extreme hanky panky with this, they are lying through their teeth with the stats and people had damn well better take notice and put this right. You can't believe stats AT ALL when 7,500 people die in the United States daily and there are therefore LOTS of bodies to cheat the system with. They can fake the "coronavirus" stats all they want and then collect BIGLY.

No we just people who are not at risk to be able to go back to work and let people who are at risk stay home instead

Good thing you live in Japan where you can go to work whether healthy.

@the avenger--not sure why you put that part in bold. It just emphasizes that you are using the wrong terms. Respirator is another word for mask. Ventilators are the expensive intubation machines. Keeping someone on one for weeks leads to a high bill, that is true but not unknown information.

Can you imagine how much worse it would have been had all of the governors listened to Trump and refused to believe what was happening?

Looks like it's mostly going to be left to the mayors and governors to decide and they are starting to coordinate, which is a good thing. Not sure how Trump will fit in to all of this, probably just a footnote.

After the peak, there will be a second peak. The longer the lockdown, the lower the peak. Lower the first second, third peaks are, the lower the strain on hospitals. It can’t be stopped, but it can be slowed and controlled.

But Sweden= good, to the media because they are actively defying Trump -and- science!

Sweden challenges Trump -- and scientific mainstream -- by refusing to lock down

So its not going so well now after all?

You might also add that Sweden's death toll is several times higher than that of neighboring countries like Norway and Finland.

There is a cost to that model.

It just hit me how to deal with this pandemic; the same way the US so effectively deals with firearm violence: thoughts and prayers.

This must mean we are okay to start going out and drinking together. Want to meet me for some shared with chopsticks izakaya food with some of my ICU and emergency room doctor and nurse friends tonight? We’re paying.

I dont have to stay home if I am not at risk. I can go to work, make money, grow the economy to pay the social programs for people who are at risk, so that they can stay home.

This is what is happening now. Grocery store and convenience store workers go to work so that those of us who stay home can still eat.

This disaster is now looking like the worst failure of a President in US history.

This is far beyond Bush Jr's 9/11 and Katrina - this is incompetence on a massive scale.

And it's not over yet, even as Trump tries to limit social distancing that will create even more casualties.

Rome and Nero? The US burns while Trump pats himself on the back...

The last time I rode a bus to go to work, I was the only one on the bus under 80 years old.

Oh my god, you are gonna give those old people the coronavirus! How can you selfishly go to work?

Well, there would be zero chance of me passing coronavirus (that I dont even have) if the bus wasnt full of 80 year olds and they were at home due to being at risk category. They need to stay home so the rest of us can return to work and daily life.

TorafusuTorasan - @the avenger--not sure why you put that part in bold. It just emphasizes that you are using the wrong terms. Respirator is another word for mask.

Respirators seal tightly to the face while surgical masks fitting more loosely. Respirators include specialized filter media, while masks typically do not.

Can you believe the US is talking about re-opening the economy in 2 weeks?

Easy to believe. The global elite have their supporters pushing eugenicist beliefs, saying 'it's only the elderly, frail and poor, it's OK to sacrifice them'.

Compounding issues are the nations whose statistics re the virus are dodgy, made worse when those states use either their state owned media or media beholden to them to spread their 'misinformations'.

The brunt of the disease has been felt most heavily in New York, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom, but grim projections of a virus that would spread with equal ferocity to other corners of America and the world had not yet materialized after more than a month.

...In the U.S., about half of the more than 22,000 deaths reported are in the New York metropolitan area. Meanwhile, tracking maps maintained by Johns Hopkins University show a dense patchwork of coronavirus cases along the Northeast corridor, as well as significant outbreaks corresponding to other major metropolitan areas — though nothing on the scale of what New York has endured.

...“Don’t consider relaxing social distancing in the near term,” Murray said he’d advise leaders in those states. “You need to stay the course.”

The area's where this virus from Wuhan, China has been most heavily experienced (outside of China) did not social distance early enough. Trump banned flights from China very early on, but was condemned for doing so at that time, by the usual suspects. The same usual suspects now try to blame Trump for the high number of deaths in the U.S., while they chose to ignore the fact that more than half of those deaths occurred in NYC. Long Island, NY residents experienced an increase in Novel virus cases from New Yorkers who fled NYC for Long Island. Cuomo and de Blasio, Democrat leaders in NY, were slow to curtail the social transmission of this virus.

Officials around the world worried that halting quarantine and social-distancing measures could easily undo the hard-earned progress that those steps have achieved in slowing the spread.

Those same officials are up against other officials saying get back to work so the global elite can have even greater control. The latter set of officials are now attacking the credibility of medical experts. In the US the Trump syndicate have their social media keyboard warriors, with help from fellow rightists around the globe, attack Dr. Fauci and others saying the virus is dangerous.

It seems more increase in future. Causes of so many deaths are not only obesity or chronic illnesses but also experienced illegal drugs like such as marijuana, cocaine,,, etc. I know so many people have/had experience of such drugs. When I was a student in America long time ago, I saw many there.

It is also important to consider that there are more cases in Queens than in any of the other boroughs, particularly in the area around Elmhurst City Hospital. That area is packed with people who are from elsewhere - Central and South America, Nepal, Korea, etc. Many, if not most, work at jobs that can't be conducted from home (delivery people, restaurant kitchen staff, etc.) and many are also undocumented. They live in terrible conditions - many in illegally subdivided apartments, often in the basements of private homes, where getting three feet away from others, much less six feet, is impossible and bathroom facilities are shared. It's all about the density, poverty and the lack of decent housing.

In the U.S., about half of the more than 22,000 deaths reported are in the New York metropolitan area.

Have to wonder if this has anything to do with Gov. Cuomo and Mayor De Blasio not being on the ball from the beginning.

Actually AOC blames the New York deaths on "Trump's xenophobic COVID-19 response!". She claims people are dying because they are "afraid" to go to the hospital. (cause they are illegals, people of color, the usual identity politics things)

So what does she do? Instead of telling sick people its safe to go get treatment, she lists all the reasons supporting her claim that his response is xenophobic. Which makes people even more fearful because she is a supposed "authority figure" confirming their fears and even more people die.

Readers, once again we ask you to leave politics put of this discussion.
