It must be really bad if they're willing to indict him, bad enough not to be able to cover up and blame it on someone else.

The probe, conducted by the U.S. Attorney's office in Manhattan, focused on whether Adams' 2021 mayoral campaign conspired with a Brooklyn construction company to funnel foreign money into the campaign through a straw-donor scheme, the Times said.

"Conspired," eh? So we have a conspiracy theory. I thought that was something only far-right crazies entertain...

The SDNY doesn’t indict a sitting mayor over nothing.

And they don’t indict a sitting Mayor (or any public figure) on corruption unless they have their ducks in a row.

Adams isn’t proven guilty yet, but he’s got problems. BIG problems.

And his defense they the always vague “They” are coming after him because he stood up for NYC seems pretty weak.

I don’t think he survives this, and will be forced to resign.

And if he’s tried and found guilty in trial by his peers, I think the Judge should throw the book at him.

Public corruption is a serious issue regardless of party and it should not be tolerated when discovered.

Indeed, but the interesting thing will be how the democratic party responds to this.

We already know the republican playbook - the "d" strategy. Deny, double down, demonise (the other side), distract, then in the end "don't care what he did, still voting for him".

Hopefully the democrats hold their officials to a higher standard.

New Yorkers are thinking : Damn, should have gone with Andrew Yang.

This is the funniest thing I've read this week.

Eh, the very same Justice Department has been busy putting Democratic LA City Council members and other high city and county officials in prison for corruption.

You're welcome.

So a Dem DOJ is indicting a Dem Mayor in a Dem city...

Another nail in the coffin of Trump's baseless "weaponized" DOJ claims...

The landscape of NYC politics would have been much better in Andrew Yang was elected mayor.

And maybe even today's presidential politics.

The landscape of NYC politics would have been much better in Andrew Yang was elected mayor.

Andrew Yang would have been chewed up and spit out by New York's full contact politics like branches shoved into a wood chipper. He was a kook and someone who had no base of power within New York City. Without allies in the City Council willing to go to bat for your policies you can't be an effective mayor.

I wish I could say I’m surprised, but that would be a lie.

Democracy does exist and Russia/China/Iran ain't it.

What up with Iran/Russia/China, they aren't in the article?

-4 ( +2 / -6 )

But he’ll never get a fair trial in NY, right?

If he’s found guilty throw the book at him. That’s law and order.

1 ( +5 / -4 )

My advice to him: pull a Trump. Delay, delay, delay, switch lawyers, delay some more, say the dog ate your paperwork. No need to serve any time. Trump has already made a complete mockery of the US justice system.

5 ( +8 / -3 )

But he’ll never get a fair trial in NY, right?

He’s a lib and NYC he will get a fair trial.

If he’s found guilty throw the book at him. That’s law and order.

Absolutely

This office never fails, they are the very best at what they do and the last you want to get entangled with

He’s a lib and NYC he will get a fair trial.

Great. So you can’t disagree with the verdict then. It’ll be a fair trial.

3 ( +5 / -2 )

But wait Bass. The FBI. Just 2 days ago you wrote

“Yeah, I think at this point, no one really believes a word the FBI says.”

How do you believe them this time? Is it a witch-hunt?

I wish I could say I’m surprised, but that would be a lie.

Same here, we keep saying these people are not fit to be in power of anything in the West

-6 ( +2 / -8 )

He crossed the powers that be, so now they are going to put him in jail.

Straight out of their playbook.

He’s a lib in NYC where libs outnumber conservatives 5-1 it has nothing to do with me disagreeing or not.

Yes.

I don’t know, I don’t concern myself with NEw York or Adams

They just have to mind control 12 jurors and a judge now. Oh, also all of the appellate judges.

Which probably won't be difficult because I'm sure it will be shown that he took some funds tied to foreign sources. With the amount of money floating around US politics, it's inevitable.

The problem with charges like this is not that they are entirely concocted, but that scrutiny and prosecution might be applied selectively. Obviously we'll have to wait and see if that is the case here.

@desert tortoise

He was a kook and someone who had no base of power within New York City.

Why do you refer to him as a "kook"?

0 ( +2 / -2 )

he's already pulling a trump. he said it's all biden's fault.

no, i'm not kidding.

that's what you get electing a former policeman - the honest, crimefighting protect and serve folks.

Why do you refer to him as a "kook"?

UBI for one. And he is kind of a ner do well, flitting from one job to another never really accomplishing anything substantive.

UBI for one

UBI has not been studied adequately. Of course you need strict controls on how many citizens are in the area, which might be itself a difficult problem to address.

So, he's SUSPECTED of taking funds from A NATO country America regularly tries to meddle in the politics of, Turkey (which every media story has included front and center) and a regime under investigation for genocide, notorious for meddling in American politics, and pretty blatantly trying to escalate it's plausibly genocidal tactics into a regional war, Israel (which is essentially a footnote or less in many media stories)

Just because Turkey is a troubled member of NATO doesn't mean it is legal to take money from its government. Our support for Israel is just to keep people like yourself happy as far as I am concerned.

He was a crook day one. He gave Diddy the keys to the city. I think he best get them back to get himself out of jail. The fed when they raid your home and take things means business and they are not finish they will watch you for years and when you least expected you get that knock on the door. He was bought!!! The Times, citing a search warrant, reported in early November 2023 that federal authorities were investigating the possible acceptance by Adams' 2021 campaign of illegal donations, including by the Turkish government.

did you forget about the free travel to china, hungary, sri lacks, india, etc.?

Corruption is a problem at all levels of government around the world. I like to think it is less tolerated in the leading democracies. It certainly isn't systemic like in some countries, including some huge democracies.

It is the exception when a corrupt Mayor gets away with it in a large city. I can't remember the last totally corrupt Governor and sadly the highest office in the US had a terrible corruption problem from 2017 until 2021, where the checks and balances failed to work. That's a flaw in the US political system that needs to be fixed. There are lots of flaws in the US political system, mainly around political parties, I'm sad to say.

I suppose some people here will have a list of "corrupt Governors" quickly available. http://www.citymayors.com/politics/us-corrupt-mayors.html has a list. I asked an AI tool the question and it came back with this top list:

New Jersey

California

Pennsylvania

Illinois

Michigan

Maryland

The source for this was FBI data and http://www.citymayors.com/politics/us-corrupt-mayors.html (from 2022). Guess that's why Rudy isn't adding to the list.

kaimycahlT - Diddy was asked to return the "keys", which he did. https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/diddy-returns-key-nyc-request-mayor-eric-adams-rcna157397

Left or right, if he is guilty, punish him.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

he's already pulling a trump. he said it's all biden's fault.

He’s right. He didn’t want all those migrants shipped there and neither did the residents, he asked, begged and pleaded for help from this White House and they did nothing. What was the man supposed to do, take it? Be a political pawn and sacrificial lamb for this administration or political scapegoat?

no, i'm not kidding.

Of course not. I’m not saying what he allegedly did was right, but the man needed help and he was unjustifiably put in a political predicament.

that's what you get electing a former policeman - the honest, crimefighting protect and serve folks.

Yes.
