Military on subway system? Is it becoming new battleground, they do really prepare for zombie apocalypse seriously now.

“For people who are thinking about bringing a gun or knife on the subway, at least this creates a deterrent effect. They might be thinking, ‘You know what, it just may just not be worth it because I listened to the mayor and I listened to the governor and they have a lot more people who are going to be checking my bags,'" Hochul said at a news conference

Then Chevy Chase stumbled and tumbled onto the stage and announced, "Live from New York, it's Saturday Night!

Military on subway system...

So thirdworldish..

-5 ( +2 / -7 )

Pathetic, leftist progressive policies made this city a third world disgrace, now the military has to patrol the subways, what about the police? Wait…, the left defunded them and tied their hands behind their backs, no wonder…

2 ( +7 / -5 )

Yeah cause people totally join the military to check violent and mentally deranged people’s bags before they ride the subway

No, people join the National Guard to dispel peaceful protests and help a Bible-holding POTUS stage a photo op in a public park.

a third world disgrace

Come on, man. Cut the hyperbole.

Huh??

Come on, man. Cut the hyperbole.

Just telling the truth, hate the message not the messenger.

The safest city in the USA needs the military to patrol its subways?

peaceful protests

”mostly” peaceful. To cover all the things they steal, destroy and set on fire.

Summer of Love 2024, coming soon.

Sorry, are we supposed to take your anger seriously when you're trying to put a legally-declared insurrectionist in the top office of the land?

People and businesses believe their lying eyes, illegal immigrants = massive and dangerous ongoing crime catalyst. Nov election #1 issue, border security & illegals.

Most people don't feel 'better off' than 4 years ago, rather far worse off. Add to list, High Prices, ongoing Inflation, High Interests Rates, Global Chaos and Wars etc.

Trump was on the verge of crashing the economy four years ago.

And at election time, it will be four years since Trump crashed the economy.

Just telling the truth

NYC is not “third world”. Otherwise Trump wouldn’t make such a big deal out of his NYC properties. Or is he just an incompetent investor?

You know which subway system is the best in the world? Moscow’s!

Keep the hits coming, comrade!

NYC is not “third world”.

Beg your pardon?

It is.

They're located in areas where it’s harder for thugs to get to them.

You know which subway system is the best in the world? Moscow’s!

Very true. But they don’t have radical left-leaning policies that would allow the system to fall in decay and they don’t have thugs running around bothering people on trains or trying to push them on platforms.

What do you mean by “thugs”?

What do you mean by “thugs”?

I was very clear. That’s what I meant.

Is this only half the story?

To be forced to engage/deploy 750 members of the National Guard to the subways is a more than a deterrent, it is a clear statement that the subway has is become unsafe,

Actions that require such a response signals a wider danger to public safety that needs to be addressed.

Thank you for confirming what I already gathered you meant by the word "thugs".

If it helps for whatever you’re thinking, you are most certainly welcome.

You know you have a problem when you need to send in the National Guard.

All this quibbling is such a waste for those who do not LIVE in NY and take the train every day. I stand near a trash can on the platform and have 360 degree vision every time a train pulls in, just in case I have to hold on if someone tries to shove. I think about my wife every time she rides the train. It’s bad down there people. Not asking for sympathy and god knows I’m not a fan of our governor, but at least they are doing something.

Even if it’s just a little peace of mind.

This is over-reacting. As the article states:

Overall, crime has dropped in New York City since a spike during the COVID-19 pandemic, and killings are down on the subway system. But rare fatal shootings and shovings on the subway can put residents on edge.

NYC only seems like it has a high crime rate because it has a very high population. But when you take those absolute numbers and level them out per 100k population, it actually has one of the lower crime rates among major US cities:

"Which U.S. Cities Are the Most Dangerous?" (Last Updated Feb 02, 2024)

https://www.security.org/resources/most-dangerous-cities/

Our analysis finds the single most dangerous American city is East St. Louis, Illinois, just on the other side of the Mississippi River from St. Louis, Missouri, which is No. 5 on our list. All 25 have appeared on at least one of the lists of the population-adjusted crime rates, and most have appeared multiple times.

Detroit is the largest city in the top 25, and you may be wondering how safe America’s largest cities are. Among the 35 or so cities on our list with populations that exceed 500,000, Baltimore is by far the most dangerous, according to the city’s violent crime rates as a percentage of corresponding rates for the entire U.S.

To be sure, total population plays a role, though when compared to overall U.S. crime rates, the largest city in the country, New York City, has one of the lowest incidents of crime relative to the nation.

Per 100k people, NYC is not even in the Top 25 in any of (A) violent crimes, (B) murder, (C) rape, (D) robbery, and (E) Aggravated Assault

On the contrary, the least dangerous big cities in the US per 100k people are: (1) Honolulu - 68.20%, (2) San Diego - 83.10%, (3) El Paso - 86.70%, (4) San Jose - 102.80%, and (5) NYC - 108.60%, and (6) Austin - 112.10%

The thing bout NYC is that people who live there learn quickly where not to go. This doesn't mean that those areas are safe, but there are fewer victims in the neighborhoods where the criminals congregate. Take a walk near Hell's Kitchen, for example, any time of day and try and tell someone it is safe there.

How is that different than pretty much every city (outside Japan)?
