Good on modern New Zealanders for being honest about their history, and admitting European whites used racist tactics that did damage to indigenous people.

Why do you blame an entire race of people for the actions of the New Zealand government in the mid-1970s? In what other context would this be acceptable? It's a texbook example of inciting racial hatred.

I had never heard of this incident.

if for nothing else this apology gives people an opportunity to educate themselves about that happened.

im not so sure about this recent trend of judging things from 50 years ago through the lens of 2021 norms.

Reflecting back, It’s wrong what was done, for certain.

Don’t we have enough other problems on this planet? A new war about who makes the most generous excuses, strongest apologies or highest reparation payments to whatever or whomever happened long time ago at all places where humans lived or live, that is not really so much helpful. Damage has been done everywhere, so just forget it and don’t do new damage. That would be sufficient.

A central tenet of Marxist ideology is condemning a nation, continually, for its past of “oppression” and “injustice.” This kind of thing never ends well.

The Workers Party of New Zealand promoted a Marxist ideology.

More uninformed hysterics from the rightwing hymn sheet.

The recognition by governments of past abuses committed against minorities have no connection to so-called "Marxists" who in the last 5 years appear to have become the scapegoat meme du jour for all the "unwoke" folk on the right whose paranoid reality composed of conspiracy theories is reflected back to them when they look in their qanonsensical funny mirror. Just give it a rest!

I heard that she is going to apologize to "European" New Zealanders for being forced to do that silly dance before rugby matches.

New Zealand was as racially 'sick' and insanely murderous of the historical inhabitants as any other country invaded and founded by Euro males. This has been changing and the biggest step in New Zealand's evolving into a 'civilized' society has been the placing of an intelligent female at the head of its herd management system. We see the same for Deutschland. Britain tried it but chose a weird, semi-male combi of reagan/bush/trump with the intelligence of a nit and we all saw the results which are still being felt by Britons to this day. Perhaps it's just the 'intelligent' part, but Ardern-sama is, by results, one of the best 'leaders' to appear on the World stage in recent times since Dr. Merkel. America had its chance with Elizabeth Warren but, instead, went with Grampa and The Prosecuter... sigh...♪where have all the flowers gone... and regarding 'Marxism', humanity is no longer smart enough to support a fully co-operative, fair social structure and mindless competition and predation by Humans upon Humans too deeply rooted in our behavior to support a philosophy of 'sharing'. It just turns, always, into another form of hierarchical fascism dominated by psychopaths with too many examples to list... We can only sit back and admire New Zealand and wish we had what they are starting to have...tolerance and understanding among their peoples and general pride in their intertwined cultures. Imagine that for the rest of the Human World...

Many of the people targeted in these raids were illegal overstayers. However the way the raids were conducted would not stand up to today's standards. Countries should not feel bad about enforcing immigration law. I feel an apology is maybe due but at the same time Ardern has used this as an opportunity to virtue signal and shore up her support in those communities.

Political theatre. Keeps everyone happy and she seems to enjoy it. It promotes the current trend for vicarious atonement - you can be guilty of things you haven't personally done, so you can be punished for them.

Apologising for historical racism is easier and cheaper than doing something about current racism.

US Democrats do the same with historical slavery whilst having a minimum wage that would allow an 18thC plantation to turn a tidy profit, in some sectors forcing folk to rely on tips - a form of charity - despite being paid employees.

I wonder if the USG has booked some apologies for a few decades down the line for those kids at the border that were victims of Trump, and for women in Afghanistan, now they are pulling out and leaving them to the Taliban.

The Aussie government can book ahead for the despicable way they put refugees and migrants in camps or dump them on small islands.

Some pushing white supremacist views have long criticized Japan for not admitting to the atrocities the IJA committed throughout Asia. Now they are criticizing NZ for owning up to their past mistakes.

Of course the two are not equivalent.

CNN, CCP--no big difference in the propaganda they spread--and their junkies believe.
