Clearly an upstanding resident of NZ. Er, perhaps not.

When two US sailors murdered a gay sailor in Tokyo on liberty a few years ago, the two offenders were court-martialed on their ship and surrendered to Japanese authorities, asking that they would not be executed. The two got busted, received Bad Conduct discharges and are now serving life terms in Japan, never to return home to the U.S.A. ever again. Maybe if they're 'model prisoners' they can learn Japanese via magazines and TV privileges.
You can't count on that with China.
Color Kyung Yup Kim dead. Yeah, he'll get tortured first in a sham trial. His ex-GF is a CCP member too. NZ should've jailed him instead, now they're sending him off to die. Not good.

The judges were faced with the quandary of whether to put politics before justice when the evidence of guilt seems to be literally airtight (forensics plus a spontaneous confession to someone he knew tics off all the boxes in practically every court in the world) and the defense arguments again the literal definition of grasping at straws (It's all a government conspiracy to protect this other random person)

Five eyes gets one big black eye. How stupid are judges in New Zealand?

It helps to know how to spell something before complaining about it.

I would say that the outcome of 3 supreme court judges falling for China's claim that the defendant will receive a fair trial and will not be tortured is astounding in a western nation in this day and age.
I would like to think they have not been bought off and it is simple naivety. Suffice to say his chances of getting real justice is non existent as China does not practice justice, only delivering party dictated outcomes.
A sad day for the defendant and for New Zealand.

Now this is hilarious!!! New Zealand's top court ruled Kyung Yup Kim can be extradited to China to face a murder charge. What the court actually said was he could be sent back to China to face the firing squad! This is so funny, "in a 3-2 decision, the Supreme Court found that China was able to give New Zealand officials sufficient assurance that the accused, Kyung Yup Kim, could get a fair trial and wouldn't be tortured". Not getting a fair trial a 3-2 vote but did New Zealand do just that?? Was this guy given a fair trial? The thought of this guy knowing once he gets to China there will not be torture but sure death no time for torture!!!

You can't trust China that's ridiculous.
China will do as they please and we won't hear what happens anyway .

The accused is a permanent resident of New Zealand, but a SK citizen. Maybe SK can get involved.

letsberealistic, wait and see is all very well from a political point of view but not so well for the individual being tortured and subject to the very questionable judicial procedures of a dictatorship if the “assurances” are treated with the same disregard as treaty obligations have been by China. Once in Chinese hands he is stuffed.
I am surprised at NZ, I had a higher regard for their judicial institutions.

Not much to harvest, then.

He’s better off in a Chinese prison. NZ prisons are populated by Mongel Mob, Back Power and White Surpremists.
