Scary how freedoms can so easily be taken away

Better than catching the virus, passing it on and people losing loved ones because of it.

Last year she took everyones guns this year she puts everyone in lock up, martial law hard at work for you all, right here.

U.N. Agenda coming right at you !

If that were true it would have happened a lot sooner.

Yep. That's how they usually do it: in the name of national security. And by now the people have been whipped up into a frenzied fear by the media, they'll happily fork over their freedoms.

You guys don’t seem to realize the people were petitioning the government to do this.

@Bjorn Tomention

You probably should have left the gun thing out on this one. The article is about PM Ardern's announcing a nation wide lockdown in response to the Covid 19 threat. Bringing the gun issue into it comes off as using the Coronavirus situation to promote your agenda, or in other words politicizing it. All it achieved was for you to be labeled, demeaned and dismissed. That's too bad, because your observations (if true) about the lax security at NZ airports, are definitely pertinent to this conversation.

Based on direct observation of clinical cases it was observed that the average time between infection and the onset of symptoms was eleven and a half days, with ninety nine percent of the patients becoming symptomatic within a period of nine to fifteen days. The numbers we are seeing now are a result of what was happening two weeks ago. And it is almost certain that the numbers will continue to rise until the hoped for effect of the lockdown begins to manifest itself.

Right now the responsibility of the government is to take all possible steps to protect its citizens and address the health, economic, and societal challenges that are looming in the near future. But it is the people of New Zealand that hold the key to whether those efforts are successful or not. If New Zealanders get on board and follow the guidelines to reduce possible infection, then hopefully in a month or so we could see some light at the end of the tunnel. If not, well.....

Death does that. stay safe.

New Zealand will impose a four-week lockdown in a bid to smother coronavirus infection rates and avoid the mass fatalities seen elsewhere in the world, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said Monday.

A concerned and competent leader taking effective action....

On the other hand, in the US;

Trump Repeats Latest Bonkers Fox News Coronavirus Claims In Midnight Rant

Fox News host Steve Hilton blasted “our ruling class and their TV mouthpieces whipping up fear” over the coronavirus outbreak on Sunday and warned that a recession due to shutdowns could be deadly.

Donald Trump seemed to be watching. Soon after the segment aired, the president fired off an all-caps tweet repeating some of Hilton’s talking points.

He won't listen to Dr Fauci, but will listen to a nutty Fox News talking head...

God help us...

@Bjorn, what's your problem?

Gun nuts don’t realize that the rest of us want to live in gun-free societies. Where we’re free of the fear of getting shot up when we go to the store. Or school. Or to the park. Or for a walk. Or go home. Or go to bed. Or go to a restaurant. Or go to a shopping center. Or go... anywhere.

You think you’re free to own guns, but you’re then trapped in a world with guns. And that is not freedom.

You missed one

Thank you for acting to protect people because people are too stupid and can’t be trusted to do it themselves.

Well done. It's good to see a leader taking decisive steps - unlike some I could mention. I hope all the New Zealanders reading this are doing okay.

Absolutely, what Allan and SimonB said. Instil confidence and people will listen. Every country needs this, not individual countries, and definitely not Chi-WHO unless they mean it for the world's sake. In America, tell all students they can have the largest beach party ever imagined at the taxpayers expense after all of this has blown over, and I'd think more would comply to the quarantine orders.

Greed has brought us to this point and fear will lead us to the finish...

And here's the thing about Jacinda Arden, she instils confidence.  Wonderful young woman.  People trust her.

At least a few countries still have leaders who want to do the best for their populaces and keep them safe. She moved very quickly, after listening to the experts and not a bunch of career bureaucrats.

Where is the leadership in Japan on this one? Mr. Abe, come on man. Now the Olympics are finally going to be postponed, take the initiative and close the country down using that new law you passed the other week. While you are at it, compel industry to make some N95 masks and hand sanitizers to keep us all safe. At the moment we're all sitting ducks.

More like a boomer that watches Fox and listens to Hoskings, which all said it was nothing for weeks until it was a "war" .

Dear Leader,

Thank you for restricting my movement.

Thank you for shuttering my family business.

Thank you for closing schools.

Thank you for the economic hardship this will bring.

Thank you for saying 10,000 + will die more than the rest of world combined.

Thank you for offering relief my grandkids will someday still be paying back in taxes.

Thank you

She should have put all travelers into NZ into quarantine weeks ago, not that silly self imposed isolation thing.

Now she is forcing everyone into lock down because she made bad decisions weeks ago .

People have told me that at the airports in NZ there was no checks or monitoring on anyone going in except to fill in a form of where they would be staying as normal, its almost as if she wanted this to happen.

People who went through the Auckland airport told me they were amazed at how easy simple and basic it was entering the country during this crisis. Very lax , no one with any concern or temperature equipment nothing at all, no sense of emergency or crisis.

I know the adernophiles will be besides them selves with thinking how great she has done but really she has completely screwed this up.

-6 ( +3 / -9 )

How any one can think this muppet adern instills confidence or is a great leader just shows how screwed the world is.

Last year she took everyones guns this year she puts everyone in lock up, martial law hard at work for you all, right here.

U.N. Agenda coming right at you !

If she was a great leader she would have shut the door on getting into NZ weeks ago instead of letting the contagion in and letting it wander around aimlessly unchecked, or self isolated.

Now everyone gets a social security cheque form the social welfare dept because they cant go to work.

Next step is everyone wears the same commie uniform.........
