Nice dress.

JT readers might disagree on many issues, but I'm sure we're all united in wishing this guy all the very worst for his future.

24 ( +25 / -1 )

The terror and murder charges all carry life sentences, setting a minimum non-parole period of 17 years but giving the judge power to imprison without the possibility of release.

Parole??????

He doesn’t deserve to see the light of the day!!!

12 ( +12 / -0 )

He has a target on his back, be suprised if he lasts five years. When you commit such a degrading crime expect your final breath to be just as degrading.

7 ( +10 / -3 )

@ulysses,

He will never be released from prison.

8 ( +8 / -0 )

hopefully, he'll be brutalized in prison the way he brutalized others.

5 ( +11 / -6 )

The little weakling wouldnt last one minute in with other prisoners, he would be beaten to death in the blink of an eye. Solitary confinement, zero contact with anyone until the little loser expires. His food in prison, prepared 3 times a day by inmates, is probably "interesting" to say the least...

9 ( +10 / -1 )

Violence in prison against him won’t solve anything. Bloodlust is a primitive instinct we need to master.

Best keep him away from the public for good. I can’t see this sick mind being reformed.

3 ( +11 / -8 )

His days are numbered unless they keep him in solitary confinement. Even the local gangs condemned his actions. Islam is one of the fastest growing religions in NZ and a number of gang members have even converted while in prison.

If only they could sentence him to listening to the Muslim call to prayer 5 times a day for the rest of his life.

Agreed

Spot on.

3 ( +6 / -3 )

'SMS'.......yet again 'Small Man Syndrome' strikes.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

I'm not an advocate of the death penalty, but cases like these, where the perpetrator is clearly vile and evil and has no indication of being reformed, makes me think that it would just be a waste of money and space to keep him alive. Also, can the authorities in New Zealand really assure the public that he will never escape? I know if I was a relative of a victim, I would never stop worrying about that possibility.

4 ( +8 / -4 )

So you are an advocate of the death penalty.

2 ( +9 / -7 )

If there is a probable cause of conviction, in a open court, the accused, suspected of terror and murder charges should be limited to relevant procedural reporting restrictions

No platform.

Forgive me, hang him high

mosque shooter to face survivors at sentencing

I am not sure what this face-off is supposed to achieve. He hates them, and they hate him.

And I find the "far-right" label misguided. The historic "far right" hates the Jews and is sympathetic to islam, so what is that even supposed to mean. To understand the guys thinking, one has to read his manifesto, not slap on hamfisted labels.

People have read his manifesto. That's how they know he's far-right. The far-right are white supremecists, and hate Jews and Muslims. Or do you think all the Trump lovers who think Muslims should be ejected from the US are all lefties?

9 ( +11 / -2 )

The historic far-right isn’t really relevant here. Are the present far-right sympathetic to Islam?

10 ( +10 / -0 )

I am not sure what this face-off is supposed to achieve. He hates them, and they hate him.

It allows the victims some closure and to feel as though they are part of the system serving justice. You can read about victim impact statements quite extensively if you so desire.

And I find the "far-right" label misguided. The historic "far right" hates the Jews and is sympathetic to islam, so what is that even supposed to mean. To understand the guys thinking, one has to read his manifesto, not slap on hamfisted labels.

We aren’t dealing with the historic far-right, we are dealing with the current far-right, which hate both Jews and Muslims.

Also, the far-right label wasn’t simply slapped onto this guy; it was bestowed after it was determined he was a far-rightist.

People have read his manifesto. That's how they know he's far-right. The far-right are white supremecists, and hate Jews and Muslims.

Don´t know who these "people" are. Clearly you have not read it, and neither has the article writer.

-11 ( +1 / -12 )

Here, some commentary on his manifesto:

Tarrant claims to be the author of a 74-page manifesto titled "The Great Replacement", a reference to the "Great Replacement" and "white genocide" conspiracy theories. It said that the attacks were planned two years prior, and the location was selected three months prior. Minutes before the attacks began, the manifesto was emailed to more than 30 recipients, including the prime minister's office and several media outlets, and links were shared on Twitter and 8chan.

In the manifesto several anti-immigrant sentiments are expressed, including hate speech against migrants, white supremacist rhetoric, and calls for all non-European immigrants in Europe who are claimed to be "invading his land" to be removed. The manifesto displays neo-Nazi symbols such as the Black Sun and the Odin's cross. However, the author denies being a Nazi, describing himself instead as an "ethno-nationalist",an "eco-fascist", and a "kebab removalist", in reference to a meme exalting the genocide of Bosnian Muslims that occurred during the Bosnian War. The author cites Norwegian terrorist Anders Behring Breivik and others as an inspiration. He says he supports U.S. president Donald Trump as "a symbol of renewed white identity and common purpose"

And you think this is not the work of a far-right, white supremacist?

10 ( +11 / -1 )

Don´t know who these "people" are. Clearly you have not read it, and neither has the article writer.

You clearly haven’t.

Here are some excerpts demonstrating things nutter is a far-rightists:

“just an ordinary White man” that “to show the invaders that our lands will never be their lands, our homelands are our own and that, as long as a white man still lives, they will NEVER conquer our lands”

“This is ethnic replacement. This is cultural replacement. This is racial replacement. This is WHITE GENOCIDE.”

“This balkanization of the US will not only result in the racial separation of the people within the United States ensuring the future of the White race on the North American continent, but also ensuring the death of the ‘melting pot’ pipe dream.”

7 ( +8 / -1 )

He will never be released hope he enjoys the rest of his natural life...

5 ( +5 / -0 )

This miserable little psychopath is rightly condemned by all, but he is also to be pitied as one of society's outcasts, unfit to live in the company of his fellow-men. The tally of his victims must also be seen set against the vastly bigger number of innocent people terminated with extreme prejudice by "respectable" government figures for political reasons. The thousands slaughtered in the Philippines under Duterte is but one recent example, yet our sleep remains undisturbed by such enormities.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

He should get a life sentence for every life he took, and then some. And he should be put into a Muslim population if the prison has one.

0 ( +4 / -4 )

Sneezy:

Here, some commentary on his manifesto:

How about reading it yourself, instead if referring to pre-digested commentary on it?

I was not saying that I agree with the guy, I was saying that simplistic label does not fit. For example, nowhere in his manifasto is he antisemitic, which is the typical basis for "far right". And I don´t see how environmentalist extremism is related to "far right" either.

-6 ( +1 / -7 )

smithinjapan

He should get a life sentence for every life he took, and then some. And he should be put into a Muslim population if the prison has one.

You realize that would be a death sentence, right? I thought you were against that.

-6 ( +1 / -7 )

White supremacy is holding the view that all other races are inferior to white. Being concerned about mass immigration and the cultural changes it causes is something completely different, why conflate two completely different things?.

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

1 He is somewhat lucky he is in New Zealand 2 If he survives the prison, he will be in there till he rotten. 3 Cowards like him normally end in HELL for killing innocent humans.
1 ( +3 / -2 )

@Zaphod

No Comment on the excerpts I cut and pasted from his manifesto? You know, the excerpts that clearly demonstrate this guy is a right wing nutter.

For example, nowhere in his manifasto is he antisemitic, which is the typical basis for "far right".

No, it isn’t. The Israeli PM is a far rightist.

Why not address the poster that provided you the evidence you claim doesn’t exist?

4 ( +5 / -1 )

I have no problem with the death penalty for him. Take him out to the gallows every day so he won't know if it will be his last day or not.

Bloodlust should be mastered? The hell with that.

He sentenced 51 people to death. Have the victims' families decide his fate.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

White supremacy is holding the view that all other races are inferior to white. Being concerned about mass immigration and the cultural changes it causes is something completely different, why conflate two completely different things?.

In this case, the person “concerned about mass immigration” is a self-proclaimed white supremacist, so there is no conflating of the two here.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Bloodlust should be mastered. To hell with that.

NZ has abolished the death penalty. What fate are they going to decide?

If they had the death penalty, do you think the victims’ families should vote on whether to execute him? What do you think? Majority rules or maybe a two-thirds consensus?

2 ( +4 / -2 )

@u_s__reamer

I agree with you about many things, but bringing Duterte into the conversation is unnecessary. That guy is a horrible piece of filth to be sure, but it's stretching things to make a connection between the two scumbags. One topic at a time.

This particular murderer should suffer for the rest of his life (in prison). He will. Whether he gets "taken out" by other inmates fairly soon, or lives to be old and develops a shred of wisdom to regret his actions, doesn't change the pain he's caused to innocent people. Don't talk about him while he's alive. Talking about him in any way might give him some satisfaction. PM Ardern had the best idea. Don't mention him by name. Don't mention him at all. Let him rot.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

P.Smith

No, it isn’t. The Israeli PM is a far rightist.

Thanks for a typical example about how the label "far rightis" is widely abused today.

Exactly. Tarrant states clearly that he is not concerned about racial superiority, he is concerned about the population replacement in the West, and is violent manifestations. In particular, he mentions revenge for Ebba Aakerlund several times.

The people who immediately slap the "white supremacist" and "far right" on him clearly have read nothing and are just in a hurry to use their labels. In fact, these days, pretty much everyone who disagrees with the mainstream media narrative gets these labels, so what do they even mean any more?

-8 ( +1 / -9 )

pretty much everyone who disagrees with the mainstream media narrative gets these labels

What should we be reading?

Thanks in advance.

6 ( +7 / -1 )

Oh look. The Australian terrorist that succeeded in making the New Zealand government crack down on New Zealanders. How many people idolize that walking garbage pile now do you suppose?

And I find the "far-right" label misguided. The historic "far right" hates the Jews and is sympathetic to islam, so what is that even supposed to mean.

Oh look. The right leaning guy with the avatar clearly meant to offend Muslims claims to not understand the current western rightist hate of Muslims. How cute!

Sorry guy but not all murderous nutters can be leftist. Some are also rightist. Yeah, it sucks but you don't have to own their crime. You know. Unless you pushed them that direction. (eye roll)

From here in the center it seems to me both sides need a serious re-education. Cause I know as soon as I suggested some murderous nutters are leftist (not this one) some on left went "Oh NO there aren't!" or "Well, maybe a couple somewhat justified ones." (double eye roll)

1 ( +3 / -2 )

This guy is my sole remaining argument for the death penalty.

I realize that it has been unfairly utilized in the past. I realize that minorities are more likely to get it than white guys (like me). i admit that innocent people have Been sent to their deaths on occasion. I realize and see the value all of those arguments and that the people making them are of good will.

I believe (and I realize that good people can think I am wrong) that there are a few, very few crimes for which the only restitution is one’s life.

Killing dozens of women and children for their faith and live streaming it is one of those crimes.

0 ( +3 / -3 )

I don’t read fascist screeds because I am not a fascist.

Then you are incapable of truly understanding our enemies. That makes you weak. In fact, it makes you a liability.

I support complete and total freedom of speech because the second you create a limit you create an opportunity for some authoritarian piece of filth to exploit. And they already are.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

When are you going to take some responsibility for the material posted on your website?

maybe you should call your mommy while at it.

-2 ( +3 / -5 )

I believe (and I realize that good people can think I am wrong) that there are a few, very few crimes for which the only restitution is one’s life.

That is exactly what happens when one spends their life in prison. The dead do not regret the loss of their lives. But the living do regret the loss of freedom to live life. This being the case, many of these villains pray for the death penalty. Its a fool that gives them their wish.

Much smarter to ensure they rot, even as an example to those who would copy their crime.

I don’t read fascist screeds because I am not a fascist.

Oh really? How far do you want to take this? You don´t read any CCP material because you are not a communist? You never watch a Trump speech because you are not a Trump supporter? Seriously.... you want to base your opinion solely on what other people tell you? What if they have the same attitude?

-3 ( +3 / -6 )

I don’t read fascist screeds because I am not a fascist.

Then you are incapable of truly understanding our enemies. That makes you weak. In fact, it makes you a liability.

Yep.

Read all of it. Fascists, religious crackpots, conspiracy theorists etc. You need to what you are dealing with.

Any links to what we should be reading to enlighten us?

Coming from Christchurch, I do not have a good feeling about this.

I fear something "Nasty" is going to happen.

You can expect a lot of screaming at the location. But I don´t think the government is so stupid that they don´t expect that.

He has expressed far-right and fascistic views. Remember what happened in Bosnia, it was Muslims who were in concentration camps, were massively raped, subjected to genocide. The excuse was for what the Ottoman Turks did 800 years before in the Balkans. Right now Donald Trump is expressing his Islamophobic ideas by his actions and talk. And he IS a white supremacist without a doubt. And white bigots often hate Muslims and Jews too. They want to keep their nations 'white' no matter what, even if it takes violence to do it. That means that these haters are violent trash. Look at the Nazis, KKK, the militia trash in America, Milosevic of Serbia. Violent!

4 ( +5 / -1 )

Thanks for a typical example about how the label "far rightis" is widely abused today.

What is abusive about labeling the Israeli PM accurately? Please do enlighten us.

Also, I notice you are refusing to comment on my post that includes evidence about this guy being a far rightists that you claimed didn’t exist. Sophisticated.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Send that rat to hell now !!..

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Don´t know who these "people" are. Clearly you have not read it, and neither has the article writer.

I read it after such an accusation on another thread. It’s extremely far-right.

What I wonder is how far right you’d have to be to think his manifesto isn’t. That’s scary.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Much smarter to ensure they rot, even as an example to those who would copy their crime.

I agree, but he should be placed in a cell, and not be given any food, water, or necessities which would waste taxpayers' money. Why should he be allowed to live and be fed and clothed for free, while other law-abiding citizens outside struggle and work just to not be homeless? Heck, there are so many who obey the law, but have to starve and struggle being homeless. Don't make jail a way to escape homelessness and poverty.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

I agree, but he should be placed in a cell, and not be given any food, water, or necessities which would waste taxpayers' money.

So you are not an advocate of the death penalty but you do advocate starving prisoners to death in a jail cell.

Have I got that right?

0 ( +3 / -3 )

other law-abiding citizens outside struggle and work just to not be homeless?

Hey, that's their problem. If they don't want to be homeless and poor, they can either work harder, or find a way to get into jail to survive.
