LOL @ conservatives in NZ. What a rabble! Always heartwarming to see conservatives in any country fall apart.

It's best for a democracy to have a strong opposition, no matter which end of the spectrum you occupy.

I am glad I am not a Kiwi. Ardern needs reigned in badly.

It’s a moot point. Ardern is wildly popular. She will likely deservedly win. Solid policies start to finish, and her leftist leadership lead to a positive Covid response that has kept the virus in check in NZ.

Some of us believe she went wildly over-board. Try to remember that N.Z is way off in a corner and extremely isolated naturally.

Some of you are wrong.

Adern is leading a very shallow govt, few in her cabinet have any understanding of the portfolio they hold, most are very hollow and lite weight.

Adern said her govt would be transparent and it is, anyone with more than half a functioning brain cell can see right through it, its hollow ! It's a shame that many in NZ have fallen for her and her hard left socialism , before adern became head of the labour party she was giving speeches to the National Socialist Front in front of the Hammer and Sikle logo calling everyone Comrade.

Try to remeber that there are things called airplanes and ships in the 21st century.

Adern did a good job and desrves to get another bash at it. National are a 20th century mess.

@simon g - Why? N.Z. was hardly original in stopping foreign travel, ie airplanes and ships. All I am saying is that locking down N.Z. from without was a piece of cake given simple geography and demographics and I and many others do not think draconian domestic measures were necessary and certainly not most to thank. Feel free to disagree.

Opinionator- when she hadn't locked down National were whining like Stuka sirens about being "too slow". When she did lockdown the pitch of the whining changed to "too extreme" After 3 weeks the whine was "open up, you are killing business". Without a severe lockdown contact tracing would have been nigh impossible. National and right wing nuts couldn't actually accept what the people of Aotearoa thought was a well handled response to a global and deadly pandemic. Her popularity shows this. You are welcome to your own opinion but it is out of step with the vast majority of the nation. meanwhile Australia which National were holding up as a "paragon of crisis response" is going back into lockdown. Cite another nation that has done it better with out severe lockdowns you think the sheeple shouldn't have to put up with? chur!

The true handling of the situation has yet to be fully understood, so maybe in a year or two when the economy is still through the floor , unemployment is at all time lows, and everyone is wondering what virus can you fully tout her repsonse as the marvellous success story some seem to think it is.

Her response was not quick enough in the beginning, she continued to let travellers in from the infected area knowing full well there were sick people amongst them, then went over the top in locking down hard the country when she should have locked out the tourists instead.

Meanwhile she ran around throwing money at everyone and everything, maybe a little too early to gauge how much damage was actually done and how dangerous the virus was.

But then with the $50 million she gave to the media in NZ i guess they can only print the nice stories and the public swallow it hook line and sinker.

Too easily misled I would say by this not so straight up n down PM.

This is about the opposition leader resigning and somehow most of the posts are about Ahern?

Women in power get that.

Um, when airplanes fly in and out of a country daily, it's not "extremely isolated". It's in fact "very connected" with the rest of the world.

It's obvious that she didn't go overboard.

No it's not. Which is why she is wildly popular with the kiwis. Something you are obviously entirely out of touch with.

Well, the Kiwis disagree, and I think they know what's best for their country over you. And Ardern is immensely popular there, not just for her excellent covid response, but also for doing things like banning assault weapons after the mosque massacre.

Excellent left-wing leader, who has shown compassion to her people, and has a thriving happy country as a result. That is free from disease, unlike some countries whose politicians have disease of the mind.

This is the type of thinking in countries that have failed in their response. Their people go out and about on their days - and spread the disease.

In other countries that have handled the response properly, we are already able to go about our business without getting diseased, because our people didn't get sucked into the lies of politicians who were more interested in getting re-elected than in dealing with this crisis.

In NZ, people are already able to get out and about, go shopping, go to work etc, without worrying about becoming dead from the disease. Other countries are getting out and about, going shopping, going to work, and dying of the disease they catch.

NZ people aren't worrying about that because of Ardern's excellent, and compassionate, response to the virus.

Success, and only amplified by the comparison of the failure of other nation's leaders.

Strangerland , that is your view and your left wing friends view, there is also a view from Many kiwis who do not agree with that opinion or view. I am very much in touch with NZ'rs, I have family there who have been there for many generations.

Lets see how effective her actions were not today, or tomorrow, but once this thing is actually over shall we!
