A tremendous PM who oversaw NZ's 2 most significant crises. Almost as popular 9 years on as when he began he will likely be remember as one of our top 3 most effective and great PMs. Well done JK - total legend!

Isn't he quite young compared to most of the politicians?

Jaymann, youre joking, right? Good riddance to him.

He was a great PM for NZ. His staff let him down several times but considering the issues he had to deal with it wasn't going to be an easy run for anyone.

yeah, the "change the flag" debacle comes to mind. so does the fact that Queen St in auckland has beggers and homeless sleeping in shop doorways. All this kicked in under key.

Changing the flag is gonna happen, and the time was good, just people didn't have the common sense to think anything other than " it's John Key trying to leave a legacy". Wake up and realise that now it's going to cost a whole lot more than 26 million. Beggars were in the streets long before John Key became PM. The only person Labour had who was any good during this time was Shearer, but he didn't have the support from within. You can believe what you want but for the most part NZ has been in pretty good shape. I hate to think what might happen from here on out though.

26 million down the drain. for what, exactly? Who cares about changing the flag?? waste of money, big distraction. money that could have been used to alleviate situation for all the children under the poverty line under keys. Hes your hero. good riddence to him.

A lot of people are in support of a flag change. The result for and against was actually quite close, and of those who voted against a lot of them were either against because they didn't like the design and a lot were against because they were thinking of it as his legacy. But stay blind to that. 26 million is rather small... People spend more than that on lotto in a single week... if it really bothered people that much they could donate their lotto spend to achieve the same. Are you one of those who believe it was trying to distract people from the TPP?

Popular in NZ

Who in the world gives up power when one has the choice to continue?

Someone smart (and lucky) enough to quit while he/she is ahead.

TPP - another farce.

Flag debate was unfairly captured by the petulant left - after dismissing the process the blatantly came on board but it was too late and the damage was done. Funny thing is that changing the flag has long been a Labour policy; more examples of their petulance. At least it was an inexpensive process and showed the will is generally there for change.

JK's legacy is great - huge economic growth, a booming property sector, low unemployment and record increases in social spending. After the general mismanagement of the previous Labour government the level-headed prudence of JK's Nats has been widely approved of in NZ and his manner and leadership has placed him at the very top of global conservative/libertarian leaders. Probably NZ's greatest since sir keith holyoake
