Well, if I had to bet between Australia and New Zealand, I would have picked NZ too.

How would the “Islamic State” deal with her, if she were trying to return THERE ?
…that’s what you should do with her.
Fighto!
Madness. Accepting terrorists that have a hatred of western "infidels"?
This will not end well for NZ.
Commodore Perry
NZ is probably the most progressive country in the world.
Love the people and the land, but come on--leave them in Turkey, or lock them up at home.

There is a fundamental political foolish naivety in the belief that radical Islamic extremism that drove Suhayra Aden into the grip of terrorism can return to any western country that values freedom and democracy.
To believe that Islamic fundamentalist extremists beliefs can exist in the same space and western democracy is a deranged political progressive ideology.
The children could succumb to a crazed chicken-and-egg principle.
What came first western democratic values, freedom of speech and expression or the hate and poisonous core of extreme Islamic ideology
Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern in a deeply misguided act of political grandstanding, could have foolishly and ultimately put the live of communities at risk

But of course, why not. She and her ideology will be a great enrichment to NZ society. I am sure the kids will be taught all Western values.

Excellent insight. Interesting how the libs here don't even dare touch this topic.

Maybe she got tired of LARPing as a terrorist and just needs a good meat pie? Perhaps the life of insurgent wasn't as romantic and dreamy as she thought. Her family came from Somalia, perhaps she could return there...

Would assume Turkey doesn't want them either. They haven't been too keen to take up ISIS types

She tried to illegally cross from Syria into Turkey,
Sounds like she had an interest in Turkey.
Lock her up.
Fighto!
Why on earth would Turkey want tens of thousands of terrorist foreigners in their country? This bad rubbish arent Turkeys problem.

I suspect it has to do with limited options available for traveling to other countries from Syria.
Right wing nutters are quick to criticize Arden without waiting for facts to be clear.
If the woman was radicalized and is a threat to the country I hope she is sent to prison and her children taken away!!!

Mongrel Mob, Black Power, Road Knights to name a few, will do more harm than his lady in the short & long term...

Very foolish move. She chose to go to Syria, she should stay there as she obviously thinks it’s a better place.

Not quite correct. She chose to go to the Islamic State that existed in parts of Syria and Iraq, not to Assads secular Syria.
Instead of hauiling her to NZ, Adern should have gotten her a visa to Afghanistan, where she will find her worldview accommodated, especially once the Taliban takes control.

Ardern can’t. If you read the article, you’d see the bit where, under international law, a person cannot be stripped of their citizenship if doing so would render them stateless. The only reason the Aussies got away with it is because they stripped her of citizenship before New Zealand. If NZ had done it first, then Australia would have been forced to take her.
The reason there’s this whole kerfuffle about Shamima Begum in the UK is because the UK is trying to strip her of citizenship, saying she has Bangladeshi citizenship. But Bangladesh said she doesn’t. If it turns out she isn’t a Bangladeshi citizen, the UK cannot legally strip her of citizenship and thus be forced to allow her to return.

Some crimes are unforgivable. Crimes have repercussions. It would be different for the kids. Normally, I'd say that splitting a parent from their kids should be avoided, but not from terrorists. Their kids should all be taken away and raised by other parents, with no written records of who their parent was to ensure they never meet - not in 5 yrs, not in 20 yrs and not in 50 yrs.
Let her live in Syria or Afghanistan.
Australia was right.
NZ is only right if she is placed in prison and her kids are raised by someone else.
Harsh. Definitely. How else would the terrorist line be broken?

ISIL has been murdering moderate Muslims as much as anybody else they could in the area. ISIL only cares about themselves, period.
She chucked her Aussie citizenship in order to join a bunch of fanatical terror thugs. No dice, she knew what she was doing. And Turkey doesn't want those kind either.
Somalia is in a state of anarchy. There's practically nothing for her to return to.
I agree.
