I did not know they were still under lockdown. I thought it was something from the past...

While your NZ friends may be comfortable with the current situation, there are plenty who aren’t. I have relatives and friends who are fine living there, but my opinion isn’t from a selection of friends and family. There have been huge protests over there like I have never seen before in NZ.

Do you follow New Zealand politics? Last election was before this COVID mess started. The Labour Party (current NZ government ) took a big hit in the latest poll. While still ahead, I will be surprised if they get in next election.

Ahh, the old political divide even during life or death circumstances. The main controversy in NZ was Maori weren’t given priority over other ethnicities for vaccine rollouts ( queue jumping) and Maori healthcare providers weren’t granted extre $millions to vaccinate Maori in a non Eurocentric way.

I am from New Zealand and have family / friends there.

Thanks for sharing your personal experience and opinion. My Kiwi friends currently living there after living other places around the world, are quite content with their lives in New Zealand.

Japan eliminated it.

The New Zealand Government is not in any way competent or sensible. They are a nightmare for many living there. I am from New Zealand and have family / friends there.

yeah thats why they were re-elected easily, and are still miles ahead of all other opposition parties in the just released latest polls.

If their goal is still to eliminate the virus, they will have to lock down again. It has always been an unrealistic goal.

...with a complete country population of just a third from Central Tokyo only.

Just to say it.

Good for NZ.

They sure have done a brilliant job through the pandemic. Lowest death rate in the world, huge vaccination rates - 73% of the population fully vaxxed, just behind Japan at 75%. Putting nations like the US and UK to shame.

Overall, NZ has managed COVID exceptionally well.

I agree, competent leadership and a sensible population, a population in which many seemed from the outset of the pandemic to have listened to reason and health experts appears to have separated New Zealand from most other countries. Perhaps Kiwis are not as easily influenced by crackpot, extreme right social media posters pushing all sorts of wack health data intended primarily for the intellectually vulnerable and their ilk.

And given New Zealander's history of raising farm animals, perhaps most Kiwis know medicine for animals is best used on animals, not humans.
