I mean no disrespect to the victims or their families, but sleeping on the train tracks? Why would they think that was a good idea?

Agreed sensai, and to add to that they are sharp corner rocks! Not comfortable unless thickly padded. And.....shinny steel rails suggesting some frequency of use.

@sensei258 --> It's hard to tell but some of the shots look like there isn't anything buy a ditch and a rock face on either side of the tracks, while other pix show a gulley.

I also mean no disrespect, but, it's just so hard to imagine how this could happen. The correct place to sleep would be "anywhere BUT the train tracks." I hope their families find peace and I hope stories like this get circulation so no one tries to sleep on the tracks in the future.
