Homophobia is on the rise across much of Africa and remains illegal in many countries, including Kenya where it was outlawed under British colonial legislation.

Ha, pretty funny to see how even a massive organization like the AFP doesn't have much in the way of editors. The way this sentence is structured makes it sound like homophobia is outlawed, rather than homosexuality. The complete opposite, basically.

'The Jesus Winner Ministry Church specialises in prophecies and describes itself on its website as “an oasis” for people “under the yoke of curses, witchcraft, stagnation, ancestral spirits and other evils brought by Satan."

An oasis for bigots and nutcases. It's nothing to do with fairy stories about nice gods and bad gods. It's just plain nasty people finding justification for their nastiness in religion.

Agree with you Jimizo. Alas, religion is often a breeding ground for bigotry, homophobia, wanton racism and of course general ignorance. In addition, homophobia is often used as a way of attempting to repress a person's own sexual feelings toward the same gender or trying to somehow create an impression they don't themselves have such feelings (even when married). Of course, the exact opposite effect occurs. There are a couple of vocal homophobes where I work and besides advertising how unintelligent they are, the first thing everyone thinks when they harp on with their anti-gay rant, is, "religious nut" or "ah, he must be gay".

“We will not allow homosexuality in our society as it violates our religious and cultural beliefs,”

What about all the people who don't believe that stuff?

'What about all the people who don't believe that stuff?'

It isn't just in Kenya where the religious want to force their beliefs on everyone else. Countries like the US has Christians who try to run roughshod over church and state separation or don't even recognise it. Thankfully, here in Japan we are largely free of this nonsense.

“We will not allow homosexuality in our society as it violates our religious and cultural beliefs,

Actually not allowing homosexuality violates human rights. The self proclaimed preacher man has invented a new meaning for morality.

Actually not allowing homosexuality violates human rights.

So I take it you also believe that not allowing polygamy violates human rights? Not allowing pedophilia violates human rights?

Sexuality is a delicate topic. As a straight conservative male speaking I cannot imagine blowing up a plastic doll to get me off. Same goes with gay sex, under age, prostites, dating a transgender, multiple partners, rape, or animals. all not for me. And we all know many markets for the above abound to various degrees. One authentic woman for me. And nothing wrong with that. Same goes for SOME of the above for others.

@Illyas - An argument can be made for polygamy, but after mentioning pedophilia, you lost all credibility.

'Same goes with gay sex, under age, prostites, dating a transgender, multiple partners, rape, or animals.'

A typically underhand and transparent tactic. Don't try to lump those things together. There is a world of difference between what consenting adults do and rape, underage sex and bestiality. This kind of sentence has been employed far too many times. Putting rape and consensual sex in the same sentence is deplorable.

That is exactly what it means Illyas, although then you'd be classifying these people as sick or mentally different. but meh. I say let us all live in peace.

The problem is the myth that "allowing" homosexuality will somehow lessen the bond that heterosexuals have for each other, like they are somehow damaged. The same goes for people who are against same sex marriages.

I'll disagree Jimizo. It's often a fine line between consensual sex and rape in date rapes. A very fine line.

'I'll disagree Jimizo. It's often a fine line between consensual sex and rape in date rapes. A very fine line.'

How about consensual sex between adults and bestiality? Is there a fine line there as well? Is it a very fine line?

No, simply listed whatever sexual deviant types I could think of at the time. While you may not find pleasure in animals it does exist and some do find it acceptable. Can't you see my point? Strange to you may be another persons norm. Like I said above, I am uber conservative in my sexuality and I find a plastic blow up doll as very strange, yet they are for sale and used.

All this controversy about gay marriage... For Heaven's sake, it's simple, as Whoopi Goldberg said, 'If you don't agree with gay marriage, don't marry a gay person!'

An argument can be made for polygamy, but after mentioning pedophilia, you lost all credibility.

Why's that? Since the dawn of history pedophilia was considered perfectly normal. Men regularly married 12 year old girls. Why does the age of 18, which is entirely arbitrary, magically enable a person to consent? Never mind that it makes no sense to apply one age to every person, as if every person develops their mental capacities at the same pace.

Secondly, you said that I lost all credibility? In a logical debate, you can't simply dismiss every point or argument because you object to one. That's a fallacy. Even if I were to concede the issue of pedophilia, that doesn't mean you get to dismiss the argument of polygamy.
