Well done! You can't put a price on free speech.

Should have gone to Putin for saving Syria.

The fact that this newspaper is freely available on every street corner in Russia and it never gets cancelled or censored says a lot.

Also says a lot that 6 of their journalists have been killed for speaking out against the regime

The Nobel committee noted that since the launch of Novaya Gazeta, six of its journalists have been killed, among them Anna Politkovskaya who covered Russia’s bloody conflict in Chechnya.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anna_Politkovskaya

It was her reporting from Chechnya that made Politkovskaya's national and international reputation.[4] For seven years, she refused to give up reporting on the war despite numerous acts of intimidation and violence. Politkovskaya was arrested by Russian military forces in Chechnya and subjected to a mock execution. She was poisoned while flying from Moscow via Rostov-on-Don to help resolve the 2004 Beslan school hostage crisis, and had to turn back, requiring careful medical treatment in Moscow to restore her health.

On 7 October 2006, she was murdered in the elevator of her block of flats, an assassination that attracted international attention.[7][8][9] In June 2014, five men were sentenced to prison for the murder, but it is still unclear who ordered or paid for the contract killing.[10]

Don't need to cancel or censor if ya can just kill them

Ressa in 2012 co-founded Rappler, a news website that has focused “critical attention on the (President Rodrigo) Duterte regime’s controversial, murderous anti-drug campaign,” the Nobel committee said.

She and Rappler “have also documented how social media is being used to spread fake news, harass opponents and manipulate public discourse.”

Reacting to the news, Ressa told Norway’s TV2 channel that “the government (of the Philippines) will obviously not be happy,”

Philippines Pres. Duterte would not be celebrating this - he repeatedly tries to shut down Rappler

And now he's trying to convince her daughter to run for the next Presidency

Thank you, Committee!

Congratulations to both!

Nobel peace prize turned into a complete farce, lost all its credibility since Obama got it for nothing and then destroyed Libya. This nomination just confirmed all the worst the Nobel peace prize symbolizes now. @Mr Kipling is right, if the Nobel Committee really was interested in peace then Putin and Assad should have be given the prize for bringing peace to Syria. If the Nobel Committee wanted so badly to celebrate free speech and give the prize to a journalist, then Assange is a much more worthy candidate.

To the contrary, very clear. She was killed by the same Chechen terrorists she worked for during the Chechen war at their propaganda wing. Money. She wanted too much for her services and outlived her usefulness. "Nothing personal, just business".

ROFL, the Kremlin can certainly play mind games with the gullible.

Reports are putin is furious that the attention is back on him, his brutality and blatant subversion of Democracy!!!

I think you misunderstand the purpose of the peace prize, it’s for promoting peace not killing hundreds and thousands of innocent civilians as putin and assad have done!!!

Any proof of "killing hundreds and thousands of innocent civilians" by Assad and Putin? And how many really innocent people in Iraq and Libya were killed during Nobel prize winner Obama's presidency?

The 2021 Nobel Peace Prize winning journalists Maria Ressa and Dmitry Muratov will inspire countless other journalists to do justice to their pristine calling. Hearty congratulations. They are real ambassadors of the good news. May their tribe increase.

Maria Ressa is an avid supporter of a political party whose presidential candidate Duterte defeated in a massive landslide.

This means the Nobel Peace Committee is blind to the realities of hard life in the PH .

Ressa is a supporter of a political party controlled by oligarchs and they are therefore the greatest benefactor of this politicalization of the once noble Nobel tradition .

The Nobel has now become as polarizing as the da-kine UN . There is a danger that it too will lost its relevance.

Massive congratulations to Maria Ressa. Duterte - a certified man baby, is now throwing a fit, poor guy can't wait to get out of office.

From its first olympic gold to a nobel prize, women from the Philippines have done more than all the years men-dictators have ruled this country.

Who cares who Ressa supports politically? It's irrelevant. I'm sure Dmitry isn't a big fan of Putin. These prizes are for shining a light of those thugs in political power.

Those who have visited the PH even once can really witness the gargantuan gap between the dirt poor and the super rich and powerful oligarchs who have controlled the economy and government of the poverty stricken nation for centuries.

You should congratulate them too!
