Living free and in peace are states of mind, not reality outside of our ideals anywhere on Earth. Yet. Anyone who has those as ideals is quite entitled to work towards manifesting them in reality, including persuading others of it. You don't have to come from some self-proclaimed, sham democracy to be entitled to advocate for democracy, human rights and freedom.

well said, the idea of Empire is over. What Russia is doing is repugnant and disgraceful. Then for the Foreign Minister and President to whine that they are being dismissed by all but the most outrageous regimes in 2000s. It only benefits 1% of the population. You'll find that instead of taxing us to arm and fund the most reactionary movements, if not bombing and killing people in various countries directly, cooperating is better for 99% of the population in every country.

For better or worse, I don't think western civilization, however you define that (I mean, Russia is obviously one of the biggest, if not the biggest contributor to western civilization) is about to fall. But the economic and military domination of USA for the past 30 years is rapidly coming to an end.

Nobel prizes are not given whillnelly , the fact that Russian winners should not be somehow construed as a western plot, they were simply the best in their field. And their personal observations are relevant. They might not be political heavy weights but intellectually they can observe and comment as they wish.

Fighting for peace? A bit contradictory. The crusades were "ostensibly" fighting for religion and spirituality, so they could also have been said to be fighting for peace. Even Putin is fighting for peace in his own "corrupted" (or what word you would prefer) way. The people in this article deserve awards, though I would maybe not call it the "peace price"...

I think the global counter conspiracy government is upset that the freedom of choice to be who you want to be is snuffed out in Russia and China. We should all be the same, the Russian Foreign Minister was so upset he had to use a toilet that women used as well. It’s inhuman he said.
