I hope the CIA and S. Korea aren't the only entities plotting his assassination.

To foster understanding, Kim and Trump should trade haircuts for a month.

I can't understand why the media entertain this nonsense. Ignore the crazy fat guy in North Korea, impose the sanctions and make sure China actually do what they say they're doing in regards to their pet problem.

Sad to say that this will probably end in some sort of conflict. It should have been dealt with at the turn of the century instead of setting off that blaze in the middle east. Now every tinpot dictator needs nukes less he end up like Saddam or Gaddafi....

Ignore him? Wow! We're talking about a guy that had his uncle, his ex-girlfriend, a bunch of his father's loyalist generals and his brother murdered, a guy that indiscriminately and constantly threatens SK, Japan, and the US with Nuclear destruction, firing missiles close to Japan, kidnapped its citizens, destroyed a Korean Airliner and we should just shrug this guy off even if we impose sanctions?

This is why the left doesn't get it. Sometimes in life, you may not be looking for trouble or to fight, but sometimes trouble is looking for you.

The guy is a joke, but this is how he's portrayed in his country.

North Korea's Ministry of State Security said it will "ferret out and mercilessly destroy" the "terrorists" in the CIA and South Korean intelligence agency for targeting its supreme leadership.

Yeah.  Good luck with that Fatty.

"Korean-style anti-terrorist attack will be commenced from this moment to sweep away the intelligence and plot-breeding organizations of the U.S. imperialists and the puppet clique

Yawn. Whatever.

This guy and his hairstyle are a menace to the world. What is it he wants exactly? (apart from a new barber)

The warmongering US right have a habit of running into trouble. They like watching footage of missiles on Fox News from the safety of their living rooms and talking about bulls and horns.

So tell us what you think should be done here.

You and FNC. LOL

Well, of course, NO ONE wants a war, but at the same time you can't allow Kim to indiscriminately destabilize and continue to threaten the entire region, firing missiles into the sea of Japan, SK or promising a missile attack on the US, that's just not acceptable and not going to happen. Hit them with sanctions (but they have little use as they are one of the poorest countries on the planet) negotiate by all means but from positions of strength and not a position of being a pacifist. Keep all options on the table, including a military one.

Ahh, some people want war because their ego can't handle that there is someone in the world who won't do as their dear leader wishes.

I'd add that some of these same people aren't able to summon much concern over the hundreds of thousands of Iraqis killed in a war waged under totally false pretenses. That their outrage and sympathies are highly selective. But we shouldn't be tedious, there are the tender fee fees of empire to consider, right.

Propaganda being milked by all sides.

For a former Democrat that excoriated pretty much all modern wars and would say and go to the depths of meeting with this kid to quell his dark and twisted ambition on wanting to start a war. Kim doesn't have to do what Trump says, but if he gets a missile up his nose, he chose that path. Trump's generals are doing what they can to get the Chinese on board and to tell this guy to tone it down a few notches and if he doesn't....and if the Dems and the left would rather take it up the abyss, those days are over.

Ahh The Repulican party of no personal responsibility - it's his fault we started a war with him!

I'm sure the Iraqis would fully agree, right.

Westerners tend to think of past, present and future.

People in the greater Chinese sphere of influence see only a huge present. War was never officially ended on the Korean peninsula, so NK have been biding their time and building up their strength. They cannot 'start' a war that is to them on-going.

Bugger this time they missed but next time they won't if this rhetoric is real

Why are you using the bland, evasive language used by politicians? I prefer it when the right talk about bulls and horns. It's brainless macho crap but at least it's honest.

What exactly would you like to see the military do here?

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

"Delightful", younger brother? (Re Shelling Yeonpyeong seven years ago!)

Quote: North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has inspected a front-line unit that shelled a South Korean island 7 years ago. North Korea's state-run media reported on Friday that Kim visited a military outpost on an islet near the maritime border with the South. The sea border is located in the Yellow Sea off the west coast of the Korean Peninsula. An artillery unit on the islet fired a barrage of shells onto South Korea's front-line Yeonpyeong Island in 2010, killing 2 South Korean soldiers and 2 civilians. Kim reportedly looked at the South Korean island from an observation post, and was given an explanation about recent movements of the South Korean military. The North's media said Kim examined a new plan for a strike against the South. It quoted Kim as stressing that artillery units need to "break the backbone of the enemy" once ordered. He reportedly called the bombardment of the Yeonpyeong Island "the most delightful battle" since the Korean War truce.

High and tight.

The NK situation is very complex for any president. They manage to survive with very little contact with the outside world, and that in turn makes it hard for the international community to exert pressure.

Trump can say what he wants or put ships where he wants but it won't change anything. It's hard to put pressure on them. I still think we should just keep moving more advanced defensive weapons into the area since there is a legitimate claim for protection. That will force China's hand.

I'm sure the CIA and NIS both have contingencies in place for the possible assassination of Kim. But I think he should be more concerned about China. His dad and grandfather before him obviously served some purpose in the the Middle Kingdom's grand scheme. But the most recent iteration of Dear Leader has been getting a little twitchy lately, and uppity, too. It just may be that he has served his purpose and now it's time to go.

China had a good dry run when they moved their mechanized infantry and field medical units to the border during the recent tension. As far as I know they're still hanging around the region and they are the perfect kind of assets to do things like stabilize localized security situations and provide humanitarian assistance and relief.

After three generations of intense indoctrination and programing and given the divine status of the Dear Leader, who knows what would happen if he were to get killed. I'm sure Kim's paranoia has led him to come up with some kind of last gasp big hurrah like setting off a nuke in the middle of Pyongyang. But for a while, the population of the DPRK will be in such a state of shock and disbelief that it could temporarily paralyse the the whole society. No telling what could happen once the scope of the vacuum left behind by Kim"s demise starts to be realized. It could turn real ugly, real fast.

Given the nightmarish scenarios that could arise in the event of an assasination of the Dear Leader it would only be neighborly for China to step in and help out their old friend in a time of need. Done quickly and efficiently, China could occupy the country, eliminate potential impediments in the ruling elite (China knows who they are), install a China friendly government with cooperative members of the former regime (China knows who they are, too) and basically rewrite the geo-political playbook for the Korean peninsula. All the while under the umbrella of a massive humanitarian relief operation for the North Korean people.

China is really the only player, that could pull something like that off. The KPA won't fight them and they already know how to handle an indoctrinated population.
