Right, same old NK at work. Promise something to get sanctions dropped, then bitch and moan when pressured to take action, and yet expect that everyone else is going to keep their end of the bargain, and in the end NK reneges!

Promise something to get sanctions dropped

What exactly did they promise?

Right, same old NK at work. Promise something to get sanctions dropped, then bitch and moan when pressured to take action, and yet expect that everyone else is going to keep their end of the bargain, and in the end NK reneges!

Well, if they want to do that they can try, but then they should know what will happen next and the wargames will resume.

Well, if they want to do that they can try, but then they should know what will happen next and the wargames will resume.

Of course they know that - they've been playing this game for three generations. And you fools thought Trump had somehow done something different. Sucks to find out he ended up not only in the same position as previous presidents, but with a worse agreement with NK than other presidents have obtained.

What was that you called other presidents who ended up in this position with NK, for ending up in this position with NK? Weak? Ineffective? Lame?

North Korea set to milk this golden cow long and good. It’s what they do right?

1 ( +4 / -3 )

a new U.N. report showed Pyongyang was continuing with its nuclear and missile programs and evading sanctions through ship-to-ship oil transfers

Un should meet with Trump and really, really convince him that he's not doing it.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

And you fools thought Trump had somehow done something different.

Fools? Ummmm....no, the fool will be Kim. No one had any grand illusion that Kim would just denuclearize overnight, but as Bolton said, the North Koreans want the sanctions lifted and Kim wants his accounts unfrozen, that won’t happen and as the President said, if they choose to go back to their wicked ways, there’s more sanctions that can be applied on top of the sanctions that are already in place. His military need to be fed, our military throws away too much food.

Sucks to find out he ended up not only in the same position as previous presidents, but with a worse agreement with NK than other presidents have obtained.

No, because the process of denuclearization just started, there’d not an end of the month deadline. We got many of the remains back of our fallen soldiers, that’s something NO president was capable of.

What was that you called other presidents who ended up in this position with NK, for ending up in this position with NK? Weak? Ineffective? Lame?

Yes.

-5 ( +2 / -7 )

I don't see any reason why Un wouldn't be able to do it. Or would be able to. Or something.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

the North Koreans want the sanctions lifted and Kim wants his accounts unfrozen

And they wanted a halt to the war games.

that won’t happen

The halting of war games most definitely happened.

if they choose to go back to their wicked ways, there’s more sanctions that can be applied on top of the sanctions that are already in place.

You mean what the previous presidents did, which you called weak and ineffective, and referred to as "doing nothing for decades"?

No, because the process of denuclearization just started

That's what the N. Koreans would have you believe. You people act like this is a new game that has never been played before, entirely ignorant to the fact that you're getting played by NK, who are playing a game they mastered decades ago.

3 ( +5 / -2 )

that’s something NO president was capable of.

Actually, between 1990 and 2005, roughly 635 sets of remains were recovered in a plan between the US and North Korean governments, including actions by both Bushes and Clinton. The program was suspended in 2005 by W after the North Koreans started ramping up their weapons programs, and a final 6 sets were recovered in 2007.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

What exactly did they promise?

They promised to denuclearize, though with a slight caveat: the US must do so as well, in tandem.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

When you think about it, NK actually had the right idea, when they pulled the wool over Trump's eyes with this agreement. The world really would be a better place if both sides live up to their side of the agreement.

The huge majority of Trumper Zealutz had no idea that there even was any issue with NK until Trump started yapping about it. In their eyes, the NK conflict started last year. And if they haven't read about something, it never happened - there is no fact checking among these folk. This is how they can say with confidence that 'NO president was capable' of something, while at the same time being totally incorrect.

Kim v trump

trump 0

Mr Kim 10

5 ( +6 / -1 )

To those of us who have been watching NK for more than just this current presidency, the people who somehow thing Trump has done something different are so clearly clueless and foolish that it's almost impossible to put into words.

NK is playing Trump like a fiddle.

6 ( +8 / -2 )

> And they wanted a halt to the war games.

Yes, a halt, a pause, temporary until there is the indication things are going South.

> You mean what the previous presidents did, which you called weak and ineffective, and referred to as "doing nothing for decades"?

What the previous administrations didn’t do and on top of that none of them got any of the remains back of our fallen shoulders, none of them.

That's what the N. Koreans would have you believe. You people act like this is a new game that has never been played before, entirely ignorant to the fact that you're getting played by NK, who are playing a game they mastered decades ago.

No one is acting or thinking anything, if they want to go back to the old ways, the sanctions will be tightened, the workings resume and then there’s the Bolton doctrine. Kim is on a very tight leash

-5 ( +1 / -6 )

Yes, a halt,

Exactly. Trump caved to the demands to halt the war games, by halting the war games. The war games that are currently halted. Exactly as NK demanded.

What the previous administrations didn’t do

They got harsher agreements from NK than Trump did. So what they didn't do was be as weak as Trump.

on top of that none of them got any of the remains back of our fallen shoulders, none of them.

Seems you can't even comprehend the comments in this thread. Scroll up a little and you'll see this:

As well as my comment on Trump Zealots regarding that:

Gotcha, so if NK does what they've always done, Trump is going to react as presidents have already done, actions that you called 'weak', 'lame' and 'ineffectual'. So I guess it's clear that Trump is weak, lame and ineffectual. Or if you think he's not, I guess it means you guys were clueless when you tried to claim other presidents were weak, lame and ineffectual.

Leaves you with bit of a dilemma doesn't it. Do you admit that you were incorrect with your previous rhetoric, or do you apply that rhetoric to Dear Leader... I'm interested to see which tack you'll take.

6 ( +8 / -2 )

Exactly. Trump caved to the demands to halt the war games, by halting the war games. The war games that are currently halted. Exactly as NK demanded.

That's not giving in, that's a gesture of good will, Trump and Bolton assured Kim, now the ball is in his court, the games will be halted provided he denuclearizes, if not, the games will resume.

They got harsher agreements from NK than Trump did. So what they didn't do was be as weak as Trump.

No, if they did then they would have gotten the remains back and they didn't and as all of the families of those that died in the Korean war, that is something they all wanted and No President until Trump delivered.

Gotcha, so if NK does what they've always done, Trump is going to react as presidents have already done,

With the exception of imposing more sanctions and pretty much starving them out financially which Kim is on a thread anyway. Thank God for Bolton.

actions that you called 'weak', 'lame' and 'ineffectual'. So I guess it's clear that Trump is weak, lame and ineffectual. Or if you think he's not, I guess it means you guys were clueless when you tried to claim other presidents were weak, lame and ineffectual.

if he were weak, we wouldn't have gotten the remains back, now if Clinton, Bush and Obama did, then I'll eat those words. It's a yes or no.

Leaves you with bit of a dilemma doesn't it. Do you admit that you were incorrect with your previous rhetoric, or do you apply that rhetoric to Dear Leader... I'm interested to see which tack you'll take.

Actually, I don't think I was incorrect on anything. I will just wait and see and if Kim continues on the path of trying to build up and continue to pursue nukes as I said before, he needs to feed his people, they eat rats and bark, stunted growth and our military, well fed, trained, bigger, taller, modern technology so Kim can make the choice he wants, Mattis is definitely ready.

-3 ( +3 / -6 )

then they would have gotten the remains back and they didn't and as all of the families of those that died in the Korean war, that is something they all wanted and No President until Trump delivered

Well that's not true.

In the Punchbowl, there were about 800 individuals buried as “unknowns” from the Korean War who were returned to the United States in the 1950s."

...

It’s going to most likely be very similar to the 208 boxes we received in the 1990s.

https://www.nytimes.com/2018/08/02/magazine/korea-remains-identification.html

There's a very strong clue in the words "going to most likely be very similar" that this is not the first time remains have been returned from North Korea.

"There is no longer a Nuclear Threat from North Korea!"

Donald J. Trump, June 13, 2018

What a moron!

5 ( +7 / -2 )

"in the end NK reneges!"

They can't renege this time. This is their last chance. Kim knows it. The Chinese told him.

"trump 0 Mr Kim 10"

How does Kim get 10? He and his regime haven't been blown to smithereens yet, that's about all he's gotten. I guess that's the 10. Sanctions are still on, no money has been paid, unlike Obama paying the Iranians... No missiles have been fired in like half a year, we got some remains back, some dismantling of some missile launch sites has commenced...

-6 ( +2 / -8 )

The Chinese told him.

Serrano, I agree that paramount to NK actions are what China instructs as their trade and ultimate security reside their, but I do not believe that Kim was given any ultimatum. Xi does not want peninsular unification on SK terms; he's pleased to see the status quo continued indefinitely. It was Kim's bellicosity that threatened the status quo, not the weapons or delivery systems per se. So look for a NK continuing to do what they've always done, only secretively, and enjoying trade perks with China (and Russia) as a benefit. It's not Trump - every US president has been caught in the same trap - it's just that Trump thinks he's solved something he hasn't in the least.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

Both Trump and Kim know and realize that total denuclearization is impossible, depending on the definition of total and denuclearization agreed to and what the rest of the world assumes. But Trump may be correct in saying that there will be no nuclear threat. One may have nuclear arms but cannot use them without annihilation. Even with the best of bunkers and survival technology, it takes decades and possibly centuries before the world becomes habitable.

A deal could not have been reached if Kim did not agree to NOT use nuclear bombs and missiles to harm USA. But we do not know the rest of the story. For all we know, N Korea may need nuclear power-plants.

It is domestic and international politics with irrational and unrealistic demands disregarding the realistic and pragmatic application of any agreement or treaty that Kim is complaining about. Some actions can be taken immediately and some takes many years. It is not something that one person gets done by himself. It involves thousands of people and their lives to carry out some of the activities needed. The Chernobyl and Tepco disasters are good examples. With nuclear, it takes "time". It may even require new construction and renovation.

-6 ( +1 / -7 )

Once again, for all the gleeful anti-trumpers, try to understand: its diplomacy. This kund of backwards and forwards is going to happen.

Of course it does. Which is why you guys looked so silly for calling former presidents weak for doing this back and forth, and why you look so silly now proclaiming this to those of us who already knew what we were talking about, as if we didn’t know already what we were talking about.

4 ( +6 / -2 )

It is not like there is an OFF switch they can push and turn off nuclear reactors. This process may take several years, and there is much preparation necessary before they can start the switching off process. Fukushima is what you get when things get turned off suddenly.

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

Trump didn't insist on a timeline - what did he expect from NK

Don't ever declare NK is no longer a nuclear threat until and unless it already occurred

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Trump's been ineffective on North Korea. Lots of promises and no delivery. China still gets around Trump's sanctions, making them ineffective, and NK is still engaging in nuclear weapons.

Totally ineffective.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

@strangerland, so which is it? You want to have your cake and eat it too. Here you are at first calling the ongoing trump/kim negotiations failed and finished at every turn

Yeah, because trump is so inept he’s claiming to have brought nuclear peace, when he hasn’t even reached as strong a stance as previous presidents - presidents he called weak and ineffectual. You want to talk about having your cake and eating it too? How about Trump who hasn’t even done what other presidents could, yet he called them weak.

then agreeing that these are just the nuances of diplomacy!

Who’s agreeing? We already knew. You guys have finally realized what the rest of us were telling you all along. Yet now that you’ve finally figured it out you’re suddenly trying to tell us, as if we didn’t already know and are just figuring it out ourselves. And what’s particularly ridiculous is you guys were telling us how Trump was something so special, and now that you’re finally figuring out reality, you are trying to explain to us how it’s difficult in order to justify Trump being weaker and more inept than other recent presidents. Silly numpkins, we’ve been telling you that all along.

You make the claim that we want our cake and eat it too, but you guys are trying to claim that Trump is different and better in regards to NK, while at the same time trying to justify his being not as good, in a worse positIon than other presidents.

Once again Trump Zealots trying to accuse us of doing exactly what they are guilty of themselves.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

Like him or not, Kim is a pretty shrewd operator. The two, er, leaders deserve each other.

The scaling down of nuclear weapons isn't going to happen overnite. And both sides need to compromise.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

@Wallace Fred I agree with you
