My favorite NorK rhetorical missive was about 6 weeks ago, when Kim Jong Un’s little sister, Kim Yo-jong, warned the United States to “refrain from causing a stink” if it wants to “sleep in peace” for the next four years.

She has had some other good ones, too.

"We should not lend an ear to and trust the trite speech and behaviour [South Korean authorities] let out for only form’s sake as they always make a fuss belatedly, nor pardon the sins committed by the betrayers and human scums . . . Our army, too, will determine something for cooling down our people’s resentment and surely carry it out, I believe. Rubbish must be thrown into the dustbin."

And

When the inter-Korean relations are rushing toward the irrevocable worst state of ruin, the south Korean chief executive eventually broke his silence . . . It was a self-styled speech of the "President". However, it was really disgusting to hear the speech devoid of responsibility and will for the nation and direction and ways for controlling but full of self-justification, evasion of responsibility and deep-rooted sycophancy. It is a well known fact that the grave present situation was created due to the senseless scattering of anti-DPRK leaflets by human scum and the south Korean authorities who connived at it. But his speech is run through with the excuse for evading responsibility and trickery, far from speaking of the main points. The human rubbish's leafleting against the DPRK and the south Korean authorities' connivance at it are not an issue to be glossed over with abstract beatified words."

You can't make this stuff up.

North Korea on Sunday accused U.S. President Joe Biden of pursuing a hostile policy, dismissing "spurious" American diplomacy and warning of a response.

Translation: I want my fellow fat orange friend back. He was so easy to manipulate - he came running to my turf every time I sent him a obsequious love letter....

Trump was really my useful idiot...

@Desert Tortoise

North and South Korea will never be unified under a capitalist democratic government that permits a free press, free speech and religious freedom.

Guess what happens when Kim Jong Un suddenly drops dead from a heart attack at age 45 and NK enters into power vacuum. That's what OPLAN 5015 is for.

China would go to war to prevent that from happening

Actually China has been in a secret negotiation with the ROK on under what condition China guarantees non-intervention during NK regime collapse scenario for about 10 years now.

China absolutely doesn't want to be dragged into another Korean War that could see the loss of 1 million PLA troops in North Korea, the ROK is now militarily too powerful to risk another war like that, hence this secret negotiation.

I don't even get why the US is even bothering with them anymore

What do you think happens to Japan if all of the Korean peninsula were under Communist control? Now do you start to understand why the US spends so much of its hard earned defending South Korea? North and South Korea will never be unified under a capitalist democratic government that permits a free press, free speech and religious freedom. China would go to war to prevent that from happening and I think everybody in a policy position involved understands that, at least in the US. Some in South Korea persist in this pipe dream that all of Korea will be unified under the form of government enjoyed by the South. That is the very last kind of nation China wants on its border and it will do everything and anything to prevent it from happening. People fulminate about the US having nuclear weapons, none of which are kept in Japan or South Korea while ignoring Chinas nuclear arsenal just over the border. China's fondest wish is to see the government in the south fall and Korea unified under the rule of the DPRK. US forces abandoning South Korea would be the first step. And after the conquest of Korea, Japan would be next. Be careful what you wish for. You might get it.

The US gave the North Koreans a small diplomatic opening in their statement regarding the North Korean nuclear program but the separate statement from the State Department criticizing North Korea's human rights abuses pretty much negated any sense of diplomatic opening offered by the administration. The totality of it was the north took both together as an insult. The North is blind to the political realities in the US that demand every administration criticize North Korea for its human rights abuses. It's ironic that the South Korean flag features the Confucian concept of Yin-Yang while the north sees everything in stark binary terms. They seem incapable of understanding couched language or discerning what message is aimed at them and what message is purely for domestic US consumption.

I don't think a lot of people in the west understand just how much the North Koreans are bothered by the leaflets flown over from the south by balloon. This has been a problem for North/South relations for decades. I am not sure there is a solution that would pass muster legally in a democratic society that also makes the North Koreans happy. Currently South Korea's parliament has outlawed the practice but it has not effectively stopped it, and the law faces legal challenges on free speech grounds. Nonetheless it has become one of those things that so enrage the North Koreans that they are refusing to have any dealings of any kind whatsoever with the south until the leaflets stop. I see an insoluble impasse here unless there is a change of heart in the north.

Contrary to the North Korean assertion there is currently no great crisis. The south and the US are not going to invade the north. Nobody wants to go there. It just invites a war with China and nobody knows what happens when China becomes involved. If there is a crisis of any kind it will be the creation of the north.

@Hiro

I don't even get why the US is even bothering with them anymore

North Korea is one of three countries whose nukes can reach Washington DC.

Biden should just let South Korea solve their own problem and withdraw the troops already.

According to Bob Woodward's "Fear" book, the US bases in ROK is more important in defense of US mainland than US bases in Japan.

So fat boy and his psycobunny sister have reverted to their standard script of blaming everyone else for the post-apocalypse nightmare they have made of their country and threatening all and sundry to distract their benighted and ignorant slave population lest they are torn apart by their own peoples bare hands!

"We regard the maneuvers committed by the human wastes in the south as a serious provocation against our state and will look into corresponding action," she said.

So North Korea considers South Koreans to be human waste. But the Moon administration considers Japan to be their number one enemy. Go figure.

Alex, agreed there is quite a list.

The Middle East is an example, no exception.

Soon for a number of states for a desire to process nuclear weapons.

Who cares about this guy , how come he is still sucking in valuable oxygen and his country is even on the map ?

The Global community cannot do deals or negotiate with brutal ruthless dictators.

Does Saudi Arabia count as one? Or are there too many oil contracts at stake?

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

I don't even get why the US is even bothering with them anymore when their own country is having such huge internal problems and can't even secure their own borders. Biden should just let South Korea solve their own problem and withdraw the troops already. US wasted too much time, money and effort on South Korea when the government there never actually truly tried to fix things and just hope the US act as a bugger. I think they instead are playing both sides and taking advantage of both. Moon had been trying for years to tap into the north korea delicious resources.

You get nothing until you denuclearize. That’s it. If you don’t like it, talk to this wall. The United States holds the cards. We will dictate this relationship. Oh, btw the Chinese are not your friends.

Nice speech. Though you don't seem to understand that this is just a part of a bigger game, and everyone is just playing their roles. And the US is not even a major player.

Every approach to politically reason with Pyongyang has failed.

Donald Trump even attempted to hold a summit to deliver a negotiated settlement.

I have never quite understood why, it ended in a rather messy stalemate.

Of all the accusations one could throw at U.S. President Joe Biden, hostility is open to the ridicule it deserves.

The Global community cannot do deals or negotiate with brutal ruthless dictators.

Pyongyang, Russian Fed, Government of China, Iran.

Yawn. P-off, fat guy. We are going to sanction the crap out of you. Cut off your sources of illegal financing, frieze your foreign assets, and prepare to meet your antiquated military should it become necessary.

I know, why don't all countries give up nuclear everything. Then, we won't need war.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Not sure what they are talking about. Not sure that they know what they are talking about.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Kim Yo Jong, better not upset her. She's worse than her brother.

Hostile where it is required.

The White House said Friday that its goal remains "the complete denuclearization of the Korean peninsula".

Hahaha! oh dear, what I find funy is the US is trying to remove the nukes from the KP, just remind me how many nukes does the USA have? no wounder NK wont disarm.

The real question is can the populous read the leaflets. Hungry people do not study. Life is too precious.

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

Ha, very funny, but it will never happen. too many neo nazis in Ukraine

Because if there are no neo nazis in Ukraine, Russia, a much larger country, couldn't possibly annex parts of Ukraine. Oh wait, it already has?

Here we go again. The cycle repeats . . . .

North Korea, after shutting its borders with China in fear of COVID-19, cuts itself off from its manjor source of food supplies. Kim Jung-un even warned its citizens of shortage of food and supplies similar to famines seen in the 1990s and early 2000s, in a speech given in April.

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-56685356

Kim Jong-un then ratchets up the pressure, probably lobbing a few missiles around with the occasional nuclear test, until they can strike a bargain. Food and fuel aid is released to the country. Sanctions are eased on humanatarian grounds.

Then the whole cycle begins again.

Anyway....

"through diplomacy as well as stern deterrence"

Will mixed messages work in East Asia? Or will this kind of doublespeak be taken as a sign of weakness and further proof of the systemic disconnect within the Biden administration. We shall get to find out, that’s for sure. Are the pros at the helm and is their a course being set?

-9 ( +1 / -10 )

Their "response" will be to continue requiring their citizens to eat roadside grass to survive. This is a criminal regime. China is really the actor who should do something about it.
