I would agree with the comment that Zichi made. This is new leadership now, not the old leadership of NK, so lets hope this young leader is more ambitious to open to the world.

Deja vu...

After they receive enough food aid from U.S.A. N Korea will test & fire missiles and conduct underground nuclear tests yet again!

This is a farce and an embarrassment. NK has agreed to do many things several times, but when the negotiations become uncomfortable for NK, the reps just walk out. But, according to the agreement, the food has to continue to come in because it is a contract that benefits NK only. There is no mention of plutonium in the agreement, which is the critical material that NK has. This story is a joke and just a way for the administration to grab some headlines while ignoring the real problem.

sigh, looks like we'll be playing the same game with the new heir

I believe them. I also believe that this will only last as long as the food they have been given.

The young dictator knows there is a sucker born every minute; and a Democrat president in an election year is easy pickings for even a green horn like Kim Jong-Un.

How can anyone be optimistic when NK agrees to allow inspectors into ONE enrichment plant. Read the details in the agreement. The west and Japan are foolish to believe NK is going to save its people from starvation. It is only going to save the elite. If NK were serious, it would allow UN observers to supervise the distribution, cooking and eating at "soup kitchens" in NK so that the world can see that the starving children, and not the fat soldiers, are eating the food.

That's a good start.

Put down their weapons/give freedom to the suffering people of the DPRK now

They can't change overnight. Even Gorbatchev took a while to switch off the old machine.

Or as Herman Cain said, "Beki beki beki stan stan" wins!

We'll see how it goes. Any agreement should leave room for optimism.

I'm not sure if this is a positive development or not but I'm not sure the six parties have a lot of choice. They have to give the un Kim one chance. If he blows it the Chinese are going to look pretty stupid...

Anyone who thinks Kim Jong-un is the leader of NK is incredibly naive. He's a figurehead puppet whose strings are pulled by the military and senior government officials who oversee the dictatorship.

Same old same old bargaining chip...

Here we go again. Terrorism works for the Kim clan.

I hope this is the sign of change. I hope the US takes it slow and doesnt push too hard too fast. The dictator may find he has some enemies in his own corner though if he continues on this road.

Might as well feed them, punishing the average Chang-Hoi will not force the North Koren government from making weapons. The leader looks like he could go on a weight plan. In the end starving the people makes things worse. Look how effective the polices of the present and past have worked.

Now to see whether Kim Jong-Un will stick with it.

Save the food. He'll just feed his army with it or sell it to China. Send him and his cronies what they really want -nukes -air mail preferably. Maybe Iran will get the hint.

It doesn't matter how much food they'll get. The people that are on the outside of the Pyongyang will never see one ounce of food. The fat Pork Chop in charge will eat all of it.

Time to ask/order North Korea to do away with their army!! Put down their weapons/give freedom to the suffering people of the DPRK now then and only then can bags of food be sent to help the survive another harsh winter, IMHO.

Merci Cos!! I know that can't do it over night but ultimately the poor suffering people of the DPRK will have to reunite with their brothers and sisters in South Korea, this is what CHINA fears the most, the peaceful reunification of the Korean people!!!! China should be ashamed!!
