Not sure why this is news.

Could be diabetes.

He looks the picture of health. Shame about the rest of the country...
Check out the recent conversation between Jordan Peterson and Yeonmi Park for a look at what this dynasty of despots has done. Shocking, even considering what we hear about NK on a regular basis.

His father died early too. Their opulent lifestyle does not lend itself to long life. If his demonic-looking sister takes over, you can expect a very long reign.
Tell_me_bout_it
You gotta feel sorry for the poor souls born in NK...

One meal a day less for him, and dozens of his countryfolk could eat and avoid starvation.

Spend less money on missiles and more on food. Everyone wins.

This should be an opportunity for the US to seize upon. Or would have if it were 2018.

A millionaire youtube self-help guru and a "celebrity defector" funded by the Koch brothers. I'd rather read a toilet wall, thank you.

That’s nothing in comparison. Then you still haven’t seen his sister lately, Kim YoJong?… Anybody quickly spend the last reserved rabbit please. lol
thaonephil
He still looks chubby, just compare him with how the people that escape his country look when rescued in the other Korea.

Reality check: Trumps pacing and dealmaking stopped the nuclear testing and got Kim to change the propaganda from nuclear war to diplomacy (which is hard to walk back on, even for his sister). The pompous posturing of the swamp (to which we are back now), achieved nothing and will achieve nothing.

Kim looks far from emaciated. He was just way too fat before.
Mr Kipling
Zaphod...
I think she is kind of hot... in an evil James Bond villain way.

“Emaciated”
I still count 2 chins..
Fighto!
Emaciated? Kim is fading away...to the size of an apartment block.
And whats with that circa 1985 flat top haircut?
englisc aspyrgend
I am sure the vast majority of his slave population would love to be as “emaciated” as fat boy.
As to the psycho bunny sister, I hate to admit it Mr Kipling, but yes she is. A bit like a preying mantis she would probably kill you when she has finished with you!

Can't imagine he has cut down on calories in order to 'feel' the pain of the people who are struggling to find food. Dictators who want to rule until they die like Kim, Putin, Xi, Bolsonaro and Trump only think about one thing - themselves. More likely Kim has a serious disease like cancer that is causing his weight loss.
Desert Tortoise
Judging the condition of a foreign leader has come down to a chin count, lol. I'm sorry but I cannot help laughing at the thought of serious analysts in some darkened room ruminating over how many chins a foreign leader has as a means to judge their health.
Desert Tortoise
I haven't seen anyone mention the possibility that his wife simply put her foot down and told him to lose weight. There have been occasions where foreign dignitaries have spoken to Kim and his wife together where she expressed exasperation with his smoking, worrying it was killing him but you have to read sites like 30 North to read these accounts. It would not surprise me if his wife has put him on a diet to keep him alive.
Desert Tortoise
Cool your jets. She has been married for a long time and has kids. Now, imagine her as your mother!
GdTokyo
Please, this fat guy could refrain from eating for a month and he’d still be overweight.

Her hubby certainly knows better than to make her angry, that would be bad for his health. Trump showed that it is possible to deal with fat by Kim; with the sister all bets are off.
Desert Tortoise
I'm sure his barber cuts Kim's hair precisely the way Kim wants it cut. I am also sure Kim's barber lives in fear of making even a minor mistake or he might end up tied to something on a gunnery range with a 57mm anti-aircraft gun pointed down range at him.
nandakandamanda
Probably cut down to seven sausages for breakfast.

NK citizens are on thinner rations due to poor harvests, so having an obviously very well fed tellytubby of a leader might irk them enough to consider getting shot of him and his gangster regime and sharing out their stash of smuggled Western food. So he skips fifth course, loses a few ounces and is officially 'emaciated'.
Strangerland
Who know the secret was photo-ops and love letters?!
Sorry, what exactly did Trump show us?
William Bjornson
He looks better! He doesn't give off that expectation of sudden, massive coronary thrombosis that I've felt in the past when seeing him. There is, apparently and finally, a strong WOMAN in the house and perhaps she's taken him in hand and changed his diet...if so, it will be interesting to see what other changes she might make in the, so far, male-incompetent Bukhan power structure...Korean women (well..most women) are not to be fooled with when they are allowed to find their own path! Let's hope...

Analysts say Pyongyang is using Kim's appearance as a way to glorify him by portraying him as a "devoted, hardworking" leader as the country struggles to tackle its food crisis and other challenges.
What North Korea TV is doing sounds similar to what Rupert Murdoch and other far right media moguls are doing with 45. North Korea is another example of a cult of personality, the Kim regime was set up by Stalin and the Kim family reign was reinforced by Mao. You would think people would learn not to blindly follow people like Kim, yet today around the globe cults of personality persist. 71 or 72 million US Americans, donate money to their cult leader 45 and believe everything he says. And many of these same people also donate money to televangelists, believing their life will get better by doing so.
Substitute politics for religion below
Cults are charismatic groups defined by members' adherence to a set of beliefs and teachings that differ from those of mainstream religion. Cult beliefs may appear unusual or bizarre to those outside of the organization, which can make it difficult for an outsider to know whether a belief is cult-related or delusional
Desert Tortoise
PT, the difference is that unlike many Americans the great majority of North Koreans don't believe what His Corpulence says and wouldn't lift a finger for him unless there is a credible threat of imprisonment. It is not out of any sense of loyalty or affection to him or the Korean Workers Party.

Lil' Kim just needs to meet his sister in an airport to solve these weight problems.

I do not know how long the development of his gadget took and if it is able to reach America. Has it ever reached more than the sea of Japan?
Meanwhile, in the real world, under Trumps single terms, Kim stopped the nuclear testing and switched propaganda from nuclear war to peace. Something that had never happened before.
Facts are so annoying, I know.
Commodore Perry
Kim looks good.
North Korea continued to expand its weapons program and test missiles during the Obama administration. And now Kim has a new Dem president to kick around. Maybe that's why he is looking leaner and meaner.
Strangerland
But what about all the love letters and photo ops? Oh they were glorious photo ops.
Commodore Perry
"Seeing our respected general secretary looking emaciated breaks our people's hearts the most," he said.
I feel for. the people of North Kore's though, as they have a strong leader they love and respect--and doesn't whisper.
Does Biden have a North Korea Policy? Not Really

North Korea went nuclear during the Bush years. The country set off its first nuclear explosion in 2006, when Bush was in the White House. It confirmed it had nuclear weapons the following year, when Bush was in the White House.
It agreed to stop development at one point, but that was agreed through six-country talks, not through specific white house efforts.

No disagreement from me.
Hence my comment:

Of course, North Korea's nuclear program did not magically blossom during the Bush years, as it was gaining all the technological advances during the Clinton Administration.
Clinton and Bush should have taken military action. Obama should have been tougher. Trump did what the other presidents didn't do.
Now Biden has to do something to not put Kim over the edge.
