I think the thing I love the most about Ardern, is how much she's loved by her people, and how much that drives the alt-right posters on this site nuts, so that they try to tarnish her by posting propaganda insinuating that the people don't actually love her as much as they do.

She might be popular internationally but in NZ many people not so much fooled any longer,

She's 20% points ahead of the next preferred politician. Where do you get these opinions? ZB Newstalk right wingnut radio?

She saved thousands of jobs atready, take the sour pork out of your mouth and smile.

is that why she has something like a 80% approval rating, and her Labour party are 25 points ahead in the polls?

Recent data suggests unemployment due to COVID-19 was not as dire as expected, and business confidence had improved due to the government's hard and early response to the pandemic.

Leaders around the world who wonder why the people don't like them would be good served to read this.

When our leaders respond in times of crisis with leadership and effective action, the people love those leaders.

An amazing politician and a leader who delivers and cares about the people.

The world needs more like JA.

Her decision of an early and lockdown do pay off. Notmality has largely returned to NZ. A job well done indeed.

However, I am no fan of her. She formed a coalition government with a right wing xenophobic party after the last election. The leader of that party was given the vice prime minister position. At the end of the day she is just another politician.

Yeah I’ve said it before on here but there isn’t one politician in NZ who I can honestly say would do a better job right now, but in saying that I’m not a huge fan of hers either. One has to remember that when the deputy complains about her, he is the one who put her there in the first place. She has earned the popularity she has. I sincerely hope that in the next election, Winston is tossed out, regardless of who else might win.

Ex-pat New Zealanders can't return, nor any visitors as I understand

This is not correct.

Are NZ expats allowed to return yet? They may want to vote.

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

Apparently, it's complicated even for expats to return.

They never stopped NZ expats from returning. Yes it’s difficult but that’s purely because of reduced capacity to travel. That’s completely different to stopping them from returning. Also, voting in NZ elections does not require a person to currently be residing in NZ.

Thanks Haaa Nemui, it's a bit obfuscated on the website .

I think the websites are purposefully difficult to find the information. One thing they have actively been doing is trying to slow down the rate of people returning in order to not overwhelm the managed isolation facilities.

Have been many times to visit my parents its nice to retire too, but a bit slow for my liking.

Much like australia, new zealanders in spite of massive immigration are very insular. That explains the corona fear and draconian lockdowns.

She seems to be very popular in NZ, and doing a good job there too.

NZ-landers are pretty nice people in general (except if you're facing them during a Rugby Match! - but that's sport). I hope they continue to do well, and keep the CCP's hands off their own business.

NZ hasn't had a community transmission in something like 100 days.

Damn draconian lockdown.

Among the most well traveled populace in the world. Odd take you have there. But your exposure may be limited to retirees. Try talking to people under 50 maybe?
