He wont get his allies support! Everyone knows his leadership is subjected to disaster, the 4 years syrian civil war now spilled to Iraq and his reckless gamble of Ukraine has deepened european countries resentment over him and US.

Futile gesture - all of his previous expressions of support have not ended well for the recipients.

Russia and the ISIS are related in the fact that neither can be stopped by the US alone, not matter what the US does. They are also related in that they threaten nearby countries far more than they do the US, and in that these nearby countries, and only these, have the ability to implement a long-lasting solution.

If these countries step up to the plate, the US will aid in structuring and implementing solutions. If they do not, Obama has indicated that they will then be left with the alternative that they have chosen.

This is the Obama doctrine, and it sounds good to me.

Laguna - exactly.

His policy is what the world SAID they wanted, and what the majority of Americans want. We'll do us, You do You. An America that's willing to help if asked, but not willing to throw around wars of choice like skittles on Halloween. It sounds really good.

As it seems, comparing Russia to terroristic scums the best ones can manage. As expected, thy are still deceived by false "Justice" of this scourged World.

Laguna,

before you go sounding like a total Pinball Wizard, you might want to check out what some of the experts have to say about your Russian pontifications.

MEMORANDUM FOR: Angela Merkel, Chancellor of Germany

FROM: Veteran Intelligence Professionals for Sanity (VIPS)

SUBJECT: Ukraine and NATO

Daniel, when attacks occur in Russian areas that no longer wish to be part of Russia, Russia terms those attackers "terrorists" (such as the Chechens). Such a comparison is not perfect, but, under the circumstances, it is valid. That is, unless you would like to rebrand Chechens "freedom fighters."

Putin doesn't need all this aggravation, lol.

Thanks for the article, FizzBits, but even these retired CIA analysts leave enough wiggle-room to drive a tank through. Maybe the Russian soldiers wearing unmarked camouflage were simply making the best use of their vacations, and maybe the Russian hardware flowing into Ukraine was just kind of sitting around, so why not bring it along. No one is suggesting a NATO attack on Russia - God forbid that.

However, when every country surrounding Russia to the not, west and south is alarmed by their actions, commentary by a few retired CIA analysts might be insufficient to calm their justifiably rattled nerves.

It is a rapidly changing world we live in now, do nothing and watch the momentum increase, take a stance and perhaps slow or even change the course of the changes. Those who it affects the most should decide, but sitting on your hands watching the spread of merciless babarians doing as they wish to innocent victims ?

Couple of years left in obamas presidency and those who seek change know that now is the time of the weak leadership. There is a window here where they can act with out fear.

Shinjuku, Laguna

C'mon off it! Everyone wants an America that Takes Names and Kicks Ass!!!!!!!!!

The problem with the American right is they are just like the Chinese. Their idea of working with others is they give orders and others comply.

I hate them.

Do you realize how ironic that comment is? Those countries you say that are surrounding Russia, many NATO countries as well, is exactly the reason Putin was put on the defensive. Did you read the article? The part where back in 2008 Lavrov said "no NATO in Ukraine unless you want a possible civil war". Any intelligent person could predict Russia's reaction when the US over threw the Ukrainian government and put in a pro EU/NATO puppet. Lavrov knew. And also the part about where 2 months later "NATO declares Georgia and Ukraine will be in of NATO"! That comment is a DIRECT challenge to Russia. WTF has Russia done in the last 15 years to start a world war over? Yes, I said world war, because that is what you want. How many times does the US have to lie to start a war for you to grow up and find your balls. The Russian lie, the Iraq lie, the Kosovo and Serbia lie, the gulf of Tonkin lie?

And BTW, I don't think it's very nice to relegate retired CIA to the halls of senility, as your bolding of the word "retired" says.

NATO had never thought nine months ago that it would be focusing on a robust collective defensive posture in northern Europe, but that's exactly where we are today.

NATO has unveiled plans for a rapid reaction force of thousands of troops to reinforce the alliance's eastern flank.

NATO really owes comrade Putin a debt of gratitude. Hardly the master strategist after all. Let's hope he's at least smart enough to not test our commitment to our treaty obligations under Art. 5.

Senior Obama aides said the president will make clear that the United States regards its Article Five commitments on the collective self-defense of NATO members as sacrosanct, and will not tolerate any Russian moves on American allies.

I'd like to think that he will also have the guts to call out the NATO members who are not living up to their commitment to spend 2.0% of their GDP on defense. Time for those countries to carry their weight.

Obama doesn't believe in war so it doesn't matter how smart, or dumb, Putin is. The Russians have only a little over two more years to get their empire back. To this point Obama has been merely a speed bump for Putin's Eastern European re-conquest strategy. A strategy beats no strategy every time.

In the end, the U.S. could find itself practically alone fighting a war over minimal geopolitical stakes. U.S. should bar further NATO expansion. Over the longer term U.S. should turn responsibility for Europe’s defense back to Europe. The spending is even less affordable for the U.S., which is committed militarily around the globe, and has less at stake in Europe’s freedom than does Europe.

Yawn Utter rubbish, as usual. Do get over your obsession with the man. It's a bit tedious, and sad.

LOL when someone said "countries surrounding Russia"!

Maps are available on Wikipedia!
