"O'Bama"
Ha ha!

Obama had better enjoy it while he can. His clueless economic and foreign policies will lead to his departure from the presidency in Jan. '13.

More golf! More Guiness! More partying! I won!

A.P couldn't find one person not one in all of Ireland who wasn't swooning over him?
whiskeysour
Yeah !!!! His limo was stuck !!!! He had to switch limos. Very cool !!!!
lostrune2
Funny! Obama got a more enthusiastic welcome than the Queen! Then again, it is a family visit, after all.
Godan
So now it is G.W. O'bama?
Taka313
I caught the president's speech today at work. It was very inspiring. Made me (even more) proud to be an Irish-American. He really hit it out of the park.

While Obama is widely admired in Ireland, he doesn't have anything close to the fan base built by Bill Clinton, who made Northern Ireland peacemaking a top priority and visited both parts of Ireland three times from 1995 to 2000.

I though Obama rejected his white/Irish side. Isn't he America's first Black president not Americans first bi-racial president. He thought of his white Mother (the person that stuck around to raise him) a racist and his father (the guy you took off when he was a child) got a book named for him.
Why go through all the trouble of saying that you think of yourself as black and then travel over to Ireland and say you want to add an apostrophe to your name. Politicians can just be amazingly disingenuous.
cactusJack
He gets free beer? Now I want to be president.
lostrune2
cactusJack,
Nah, he actually paid his tab.

It is good to read something that is so much Fun and funny. I never thought of Mr. O Bama as being "Black Irish".

Well, there's the problem: thinking again. The smell of burning rubber must be overwhelming.
Nice to see an American president who is genuinely liked and admired by most people. Even though it drives the haters further off the ledge.
ulysses
Winning over a country in four slurps, that's charm for you.
McC72
Had it been the previous president, we would have seen burning of flags everywhere. Now we see the burning inside America rather. In the form of fox Rush etc
SushiSake3
Two nights at the Palace!
SushiSake3
Wha? O'Bama takes a junket to Ireland to down a Guiness at a pub in a town nobody even knew existed until last Saturday?
At the taxpayers' expense? And then 2 nights scoffing scones and playing cards and catch with the Queen's corgis at Buck Palace???He doesn't deserve a second term!!!! :-)
Lieberman2012
Rare photo showing the bizarre scar that runs along the side and back of the president's skull.Gets 3 million plus hits on a Google search.

"Irish-American" hahaha. You're either one or the other. If you were born in America, it doesn't matter if your grandparents or parents were born in Ireland, you're AMERICAN. Not "Irish-American".
Presidents doing it is silly too. Pining to the pretentious fools who call them selves "Irish" because their surname is "Murphy" or something even though they've never set foot outside of Boston or where-ever.
AdamB
MrDog,
"Irish-American" hahaha. You're either one or the other." It is perfectly acceptable to be Irish/American it just means that the person is embracing their dual cultures. And to stop that is to force someone to give up their heritage.
FireyRei
Now he's in England, will he tell of his great, great, great, great, great third cousin being English?
If he's going to go THAT far back about his ancestor, then we may as well say we are ALL related.
lostrune2
FireyRei,
Hey now, even the Bush family claims Irish roots way back to the 1700s and beyond. Ancestry is ancestry; if they're related, then they're related. Nothing anyone can do about their ancestors.
BTW, it's Johnny Depp that's related to the Queen, cousins 21 times removed IIRC, hahaha.
Haha, America is one of the rare gems where one can say he/she is (anything)-American and still be totally believable.
It was found out that it was the backup Presidential limo carrying the staff, not Obama. So much ado about nothing, but funny nonetheless since it was the US embassy's gate bump (one would think they'd specify it to work with their own Presidential limos).
keika1628
Shock ! The limo was a front wheel drive , a safty car that won't drive off a cliff .. himmmmm
pathat
He's not "genuinely liked and admired" by the majority of the electorate anymore which is what counts in Nov. '12. If anything, the Irish response was primarily due to a desire to have some fun and the economic stimulus benefits from the visit.
pathat
Perhaps he should put the same cautious effort into his purported eloquence when he talks about important things, say, like the Israeli-Palestinian dispute.
pathat
Joe Kennedy is still the power broker behind the scenes for the Democrats.
Lieberman2012
Did the trip accomplish anything? These people party like they are in their 20s. It's crazy.
Wolfpack
Nothing wrong with that. Keep it up as long as you can, at some point youth will fade and a pint will be enough to knock you out for the night.
lostrune2
Ha, the parish priest!
To Ireland, who are in the midst of a crippling economic bailout, anything to celebrate about lightens up their doldrums to persevere. To Obama, it's a heritage/family visit on his way to more important European meetings (and it doesn't hurt to appeal to millions of American voters claiming Irish heritage too). In the end, it's just an one-day stopover both sides are happy to make.
