Maybe they should lobby for more global warming.
Kotzebue last set a record high temperature for January in 1961, at 39 degrees F, and last set a record high temperature for July in 1958, at 85 degrees F. If the globe was warming those record temperatures would have been set a lot more recently.

"the planet is already warming and the U.S. isn’t doing enough to stop it."
How about China, which produces about twice the carbon emissions the U.S. does?
Actually, there probably isn't much China, the U.S., and the rest of the carbon emitters can do about stopping the natural warming cycle of the Earth.

That's mostly because of them allowing foreign brands to manufacture most of their products on Chinese soil. Who would we blame if China said no to that?
Keyword there is "natural."

Great... More Presidents should visit ALL 50 States and "SEE" for him/herself exactly what is there and what is happening there. A good reality check.
Except for this President, it is a well timed and probably "designed" DISTRACTION from what is happening within the USA and the World.
(Joke: Some may even say - Also another way to spend US citizen's tax dollars for what may even be a "pleasure" trip with golf in the snow or basketball on the ice court.)
Have you ever thought about what political leaders do.. in such incomprehensible ways?
Funny thing is... that... they (such interpretations) sometimes make more sense than what is stated or covered by the media.

Isn't this a first class grand Alaska tour on taxpayers dime? It's the do as I say, not as I do family. The Obama's are not green. They do not live anywhere near the lifestyle.

Why doesn't the article mention the Chinese Naval activity off the Alaskan coast? With the parade and putin tap dancing on the north pole, the ships presence isn't merely coincidence.
Why didn't obama mention anything about Alaska's oil pipeline?

Artificial reef bait traveling in International waters is not a problem. As for the President making a trip, he is concerned for all of the citizens of the USA and not a few.

Wonder how long he's going to be there? Boy, could we sure use a break! At least while he's out and not causing damage at home he can start a dialogue about how to bring that pipeline to the U.S., for once I want to see him do something right

"the president sought to show solidarity with Alaska Natives and rural Alaskans whose immense challenges are rarely in the national spotlight."
I don't agree with this at all. A number of the most popular TV programs in the U.S. this decade, like "Mountain Men," "Yukon Men," and "Life Below Zero," bring the struggles of Alaskans with climate change to millions of average Joes on a regular basis.
Also, the major TV news outlets do not ignore the issue, regardless of which side of the political spectrum they fall on. It's just getting a bit more attention this week since Obama is there.

"throngs of people cheering and applauding when he invoked the historic nature of the first presidential visit to the Arctic." - article
The wave crests, then falls. The global price of denial is fear. Well done GOP-Tea Warriors!
President Obama continues a record of firsts, but, more importantly, focuses again on the pivotal global role America plays.
Now that's too bad. Those tar sands never catch a break.
bass4funk
No, not fear! More like anger and frustration to this guy, but there are other priorities that should be attended to first, one is providing and creating jobs. 45 million people without I would say should take first priority. But for libs, the environment is more important than a parent struggling at how to take care of their children.
If he does, he hasn't shown it, quite the opposite.
Maybe in 431 days they will.
