Posted only after others caught Twitter red handed not telling the truth. Trump was unaffected because those insiders are not allowed to do to his account what they did to all the others.

Are you sure? Do you remember that Trumps account was deleted for a short time last year by an activist Twatter employee?

I think Trump was left out because Bitcoin scam in his name would have been too unbelievable.

Just saw a story about this elsewhere. 130 high-profile accounts were attacked. Only a subset did the hack work.

The Bitcoin address in question has received almost $118,000.

So my $7M number above is false, wrong, incorrect.

https://www.theregister.com/2020/07/17/twitter_blue_tick_hack_latest/

During the hack, it appears that nobody was entering any twitter passwords, which leads to a Twitter insider doing these deeds. A DBA could easily drop messages into the DB to be sent and most DBA access outside military DBs isn't logged. So, for twitter, they would be able to nail down the possible people to .... er ... about 1,000.

Waiting for the pro-Russians and others in the global alt right to once again claim 'can't prove it' and say 'the 'west' is worse'.

Are you still waiting? Better get comfortable, it is going to be a long wait. (False predictions are always a great reality check, aren´t they)

So it looks like this hack was possible because because the hackers got access to a Twitter employee account, either by bribery or by some social scamming. What we learn now is that Twitter employees have full access to all accounts, even blue-marked ones and can write messages there. I don´t think the implications can be under-estimated. Just imagine some deluded Twitter employee writes from Donald Trumps account something like: "I have cancelled the elections and declared myself emperor for life." There enough hysterical Trump haters out there who would actually believe this. In effect, Twitter now has the power to start a civil war, or worse.

I do not know the solution, but something has to be done about social media.

Among the political figures targeted, the hack mostly appeared to target Democrats or other figures on the left, drawing comparisons to the 2016 campaign. U.S. intelligence agencies established that Russia engaged in coordinated attempts to interfere in those U.S. elections through social media tampering and various hacks, including targeting the various campaigns and major party organizations.

Unbelievable that the fake media still reports this partisan hoax.

If you are smart enough to believe that Russia or any other state actor trying to influence the 2020 election would squander such a valuable Twitter hack only to scam people out of some Bitcoin, then I have an exciting offer just for you. If you send me $1000 in Bitcoin, I will send you back $2000.

Trump's Russian masters must be behind this. Note that he says nothing. That means he's guilty of collusion.

Hmmmm..l have an idea, but I don’t want to speculate...

Liberals conning and scamming liberals....here we go...

But not trump's hate account.

What is a "hate account"? An account you hate?

But not trump's hate account.

I guess everyone would have smelt the scam if it was suggesting he giving anything away...the man who scammed his own charities and all.

Twitter also lied to us when they virtual signalled that they wouldnt use terms such as "blacklist" anymore. Its still on their admin panel.

Rampant cryptocurrency scams appear convincingly genuine as if they really mean business. If not adequately and appropriately curtailed, the damage they could do to global economy would be enormous..

Oh come on, "Send me 100 I'll send you back 200", how can this be genuine ?! Who's giving free money ?

Oh no, not “its the Russians!”, again.

We detected what we believe to be a coordinated social engineering attack by people who successfully targeted some of our employees with access to internal systems and tools.

Posted only after others caught Twitter red handed not telling the truth. Trump was unaffected because those insiders are not allowed to do to his account what they did to all the others.

employees did it after hackers paid them. so you can stop the conspiracy theory and muh Russia.

Weird how the Trumps weren't targeted.

Note that all of the victims so far, with the exception of Elon Musk, could be thought of as Trump "enemies". If the hackers have control of the accounts they also have the DMs. I smell Russia.

Security people think this is an inside job or that someone working from home with full admin console rights had their machine "popped."

Twitter was fined for having internal systems that allowed access to insiders to be able to tweet as anyone else --- except Trump. Seems his account has extra security to prevent that.

Bypassing 2FA is easy if you already have access to the backend. Twitter got sued and settled a couple years back for having tooling that would allow just that.

Another person theorized that 2FA was being intercepted and abused for password resets.

I have doubts about all of these. It could be one of those many "tweet schedule" apps (services) used by the professionals to time the release of their posts to specific times of day to gain the most interest.

What bothers me the most is that the BTC wallet has about $7M in it now from people fooled into sending their BTC.

distraction from the screenshots of the admin panel at Twitter.

Twitters admin panel has a button to “blacklist trends.”

So yeah twitter lied, they manually edit trends. The ones advocating violence are kept up. By their choice.

They aren’t a platform. They are a publisher.
