who pays for the wars? the ppl do, and whatever countries they can persuade into their "alliance". they always manage to find money for war and they always manage to get the ppl on their side. ppl are generally stupid, and the american public is far from being an exception. they watch their fox and cnn news and believe every word of it. when that much propaganda is pumped into peoples' heads, they beleive it to be true. create the hatred and create the fear and people will do anything. its the american way to get things done. occupy what? never heard of it.

Arabs and Iranians have hated each other for a long time, basically a inter Muslim Sunni vs.Shiite kind of mess, it is also being played out over in Pakistan etc..so we should not be surprised.

yabits - Why do you think the Iranians want to start a war?

Bizzare.

Not being into military stuff I'll take your word on it Sailwind.

Only who's going to pay for it?

Our next generation as usual.

"agreed, the U.S is broke and if President Obama wants to use military pressure on Iraq he is in bad shape."

On Iraq?

How would that affect Iran plotting to blow up Saudis in the US?

Need a good staging area for the troops if it is ever a go to into Iran, Madverts.

What could be the motive behind such an attack? I mean, Iran and Saudi Arabia can't really be called friends, but killing an ambassador - for what?

How about elements within the Iranian system who want to topple it and need to provide a casus belli?

It could be a bizarre CIA plot that even Panetta doesn't know about.

Strange story. What could be the motive behind such an attack? I mean, Iran and Saudi Arabia can't really be called friends, but killing an ambassador - for what? Using a guy who, according to all people who knew him, is so disorganized that he would be incapable of performing such a task? On the other hand, I see no reason why the Obama administration should try to orchestrate a false flag operation. Are we sure this assasination attempt doesn't have a purely criminal background?

So are you supporting sending troops to Iran, or is the US skint? Your position would seem untenable.

Believe me...if i gets worse, Obama WILL blame Bush....just wait...

Muslims vs Muslims again?

Madverts,

Agreed, the U.S is broke and if President Obama wants to use military pressure on Iraq he is in bad shape.

"madverts, imagine a world where we can believe everything that comes out of a politician's mouth. "

Well Al, I don't think Obama would be making these allegations without being able to back them up. The fact that Iran and the US have allegedly had "direct contact" over this issue goes to show how serious this is being taken.

"Good thing for President Obama. We have a lot hard battle ready troops already in Afghanistan and Iraq who could turn on a dime if he orders them to "turn right" to Iran."

Who would be paying for that, Sail?

I thought the Chinese cheque-book was but a stub these days?

Iran's a bit strange in terms of control. They have a lot of different competing factions who control certain parts of the government and they often do things without the knowledge or authority of the others. My guess is that if Iran really did this it was done by a small number of rogue elements. We'll have to wait and see what evidence is released.

madverts, imagine a world where we can believe everything that comes out of a politician's mouth. i would like to feel as optimistic as you do, but unfortunately the world doesnt work that way.

"paving the way for a US/Israel attack on Iran."

I'm not sure if you noticed but from the outset the Obama administration has stated their will be no military action taken, despite the seriousness of the allegatons.

"Why didn't he just blame Bush and the republicans?"

Uhm, because it has nothing to do with bush and the republicans?

Iranian terrorism is nothing new, they even blew up an Israeli/Jewish center down in Buenos Aires, Argentina, so we should not be surprised that they are trying to make trouble even inside the USA.

So the Iranians who invented chess and are no strangers to strategy, decided that one lowly diplomat was worth risking their whole nation, economy and reputation. Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight! Gulf of Tonkin 2.0

Silly me. I thought that as regards militant Islam's growing menace to America - and just about everyone else - refuge in absurd conspiracies ended with the Bush era. I am capable, in more cynical moods, of entertaining some pretty outlandish ideas about President Obama, but 'Gulf of Tonkin 2.0' (how original...) is not among them.

the US considers everything an act of terrorism. got to hand it to the yanks, they are the best, the absolute best at blowing smoke up their citizens behinds. and as seen by the people they vote for, the majority of americans are just gullible enough to believe it.

this story sounds sooo out there that it seems the US govt mockingly asserts americans will not even flinch at such an outrageous claim, paving the way for a US/Israel attack on Iran. all the signs are there. the US and Israel need a new conflict right now. with the wallstreet protests, as well as the mass protests in israel, what better way to bring a country together than to make it beleive, once again, it is under threat. keep the people in fear, and they will be your sheep.

Technically the Persians got chess from India and modern chess was largely developed in Europe. Considering they've gotten themselves neck deep in sanctions I don't think strategy is one of their stronger qualities. Plus all the easily identifiable Iranian weapons that keep ending up in Gaza. At least the CIA covers their tracks a little better.
