Boehner being an idiot once again... no surprises there, considering what party he belongs to. The president should have started off saying, without addressing the letter, they hold the address a day later than he originally planned -- Boehner would have stood up and immediately said 'no!', criticizing the president for changing the date from the original.

In agreeing to Boehner’s request that the address be scheduled for Sept 8, Obama’s address will compete with the >>opening game of the National Football League season—a big day on the American sports calendar, and a conflict ??>>the White House wanted to avoid.

Let's change Obama''s speech to Sept 7 instead and move the Rep. debate to Sept 8th. Problem Solved!!

Obama just grows smaller and more irrelevant, except to his foreign fanbois.

Funny how this article title was written: "Obama bows to Boehner." When I first saw this name (Boehner), I read it like it was spelled.

Obama's behavior in this particular case was abominable.

"the economy in a dangerously sluggish recovery"

Hey, it's going to take most of President Obama's two terms to fix the mess left by Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld.

Sad day for America when Boehner and FOX news are setting the course. Juvenile does not begin to describe the level of their thinking.

"But the change now will allow a planned Sept 7 Republican presidential candidates debate to proceed without Obama upstaging it."

Think that debate will get big ratings? I'll bet the majority of Republicans won't be tuning in, only the Tea Party will be transfixed.

Obama chose the date as it was the first day after summer recess and he wanted to emphasize the urgency of the issue; he apparently vetted it with Boehner and got an okay. Boehner seems to have forgotten about the Republican debate - one of a couple dozen between now and next November - so he had to backtrack or risk alienating his caucus.

It is petty, but hey, if we have to wait a day to get down to government business so Newt & Co. can bloviate - well, the Republicans have their priorities. Their response to any Obama proposal is predictable, anyway; the last thing the Party of No wants to see is a jobs recovery over the next 18 months.

You are woefully swallowing the liberal potion; Obama is the textbook combination of anger and passive-aggressive insecurity combined with a massive ego. He desperately needs Independent voters to not pay attention to the GOP candidates, as they are the only ones who offer him a shred of hope for re-election. In his conceit, his "I Got This" moment, he actually thought this immature stunt would work and no one would call him on it. Well, in fact, no one did - except Boehner. The GOP debate has been planned for many months. Anything the WH says to fein ignorance is just insulting. Liberals should be insulted that their guy takes us all for idiots. Get with it, folks. He is beyond his level of competence, but refuses to face up to it.

Obama is one obnoxious man to purposely set his speech at the same time of the Republican debate while claiming it was only a "coincidence". His behavior just becomes more arrogant, obnoxious and down right dishonest as the years go by and reaching a peak this season.

I am beginning to pity Obama. Axelrod and the Big Media boys put him in waaaaay over his head.

Obama should had just gone ahead! Screw the debate! Have everything at the same time! Imagine all the fireworks! Besides, as the late-night comedians said, it's a choice between a debate that nobody will watch against a speech that nobody will believe, haha!

(Seriously though, there are only 2 days next week that both Houses of Congress will have joint sessions - Wed and Thu. So it's only one of 2 choices, with Wed just being the first possible day. Though there's also the question if Obama even needs to do the speech in front of a joint session of Congress. The White House should've thought of this ahead of time.)
