Obama and Biden are out of ideas.

“the government’s capacity is still somewhat limited.”" Make the gov smaller! Start firing about 75% of government workers NOW!

A call for new ideas when you are not going to listen to people in business means nothing!

Make a new war! War that will require thousand, hundred of thousands or even million of Job. Well that's my idea.

new ideas to create jobs

Ah... thats called the free market.

Biden said... “the government’s capacity is still somewhat limited.”

Limited government? Now that's refreshing coming from the "paying more taxes is your patriotic duty" V.P.

it is primarily up to the private sector to create large numbers of new jobs

Noooooo!? Really? Good thing Obama gave us a "White House forum on jobs" to help figure that one out. I was worried there for a minute that the socialists had taken over and the country had lost it way.

This month the layoffs reduced even more. This is 8 straight months of declines in job losses. I think this is Obama's fault. Less people have lost their jobs since Obama came into office then the jobs lost during an equal time at the end of the bush administration.

Along with your crying and whing, will the republicans give Obama credit when we start rehiring again? Obama is working to get jobs for Americans. I like how the republicans whine when he's trying. < :-)

Cut military spending in half. Use the money for public works, infrastructure renovation.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Well-paid sanitary officers (toilet/garbage cleaners), public spirit officers (to teach litterers and vandals to desist/undo on the spot), nurse stations to treat minor ailments quickly & cheaply before they're aggravated, garderners to replace barbed wire and concrete with green walls, rooftops, dividers, walks (variety of greens to shade, cushion, flower, bear fruit) - some jobs down and out can quickly learn to become independent and respected.

Their gonna need a bunch more soldiers in Afghanistan soon, doesn't that count as job creation?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

bamboohat, no it wouldn't really. Only 11% of US citizens ever enlist in the military. They are going to take from the existing numbers for Afghanistan. It won't create many jobs. < :-)

This month the layoffs reduced even more. This is 8 straight months of declines in job losses." Only you would look at it like that. Only you! I hope you aren't a financial consultant.

Actually I am into finances. Lucky guess. < :-)

my idea: create a time machine, then return to 2000 and elect finance-efficient Al Gore instead of war-lover Bush. This way, in 2009 Americans would have more money to spend instead of paying Iraq war, thus more jobs would be created.

Now, seriously: Obama deserves credit for trying, after all what Bush did to America's economy.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

after all what Bush did to America's economy

It was really tricky Dick back '71 that closed the gold window and unleashed a tsunami of Keynesian play money and deficit spending on the global economy when the Middle Kingdom was still wearing black uniforms and peddling Mao cycles in Beijing. Now they are buying gold and silver, while the middle class in American scurries for a corner in a homeless shelter. How to create jobs? Don't loose them in the first place.

my idea: create a time machine, then return to 2000 and elect finance-efficient Al Gore instead" I'd go with that and I did. In fact, it was listening to Gore on how I stepped out of the med biz and into alternative energy... but, 9-11 still would have happened and I think we would still be in two wars, we were after all still patrol and enforcing no fly zones and did have a few flare ups. I disagree with you though on how much Bush admin screwed the economy. That's more fallacy and more political fear mongering on the Dems side. Take a deep look at it and don't let a party control you mind... that's what has happened to aday.

Aday: advising people to put money into a "thrift savings plan" does not constitue you

but the post of the day so far is RR's: I just heard myself that that the chamber was not invited! Can't wait for the talk at the next ACCJ get together.

Are they admitting that their old ideas (tax and spend, and then tax and spend some more) don´t work?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Wow skipthesong, so philosophical of you. But alas, you're wrong again. Gotta go. < :-)

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Draft unemployed people. The US needs more recruits. Put them to use for the government in the USA while sending the Secret Service to Afghanistan as punishment for allowing gatecrashers.

suebe36d and 30061015 - good posts. Float the yaun is another idea.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

If you decide to operate an economy as a debt-fueled, speculative bubble, why are people surprised when the bubble bursts and the jobs disappear? 30061015 is on to something about going off the gold standard, but the tsunami wasn't government money, it came through the banking / financial system.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Be honest! As long as you still have countries with borders and different governments you can NOT have free trade. Free trade only work when Obama can stand for an election in China and Hujintao for election of US president.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

lostinnagoya: seems bigger and better people than you disagree. When I see the young turks question the fact that the very same people of the past under Bush are not only still present, but are even going up for renomination, it makes me wonder how you could be lost in such a tiny city like Nagoya, at least they have planned streets there...

Anyway, see what Cerk says: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gj3_ZdpOsVc

Obama calls for new ideas to create jobs

He should consider capitalism.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Not in favor of drugs, but if they legalized the drug trade and taxed it, they would eliminate lots of crime, increase federal revenues, and create jobs.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Obama's failure to curb rising unemployment should come as no surprise to anyone considering he has zero experience whatsoever in the area of business formation. As a community organizer how many jobs did Obama actually create?

Instead, he turned his U.S. economic recovery agenda over to Pelosi and Reid; both of whom are nearly as inexperienced in the private sector as Obama.

Yet another great decision by Obama.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Cutting government jobs is much better for the U.S. economy, but that option was never seriously on the table. But, hey, don't take my word for it. Notice who was invited to Obama's confab: Andy Stern, the head of the union that represents government workers.

Meanwhile, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce -- whose membership includes 3 million companies, 3,000 state and local chapters, and 830 business associations not to mention American chambers are located in 82 foreign countries (including Japan) -- was not invited to this "job summit".

And there are still people who believe Obama isn't a socialist/communist?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Obama: Digging ourselves out of the hole we have dug is not going to be easy"

And Obama and the Democrats have dug a big ol' hole for us indeed.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Moronic Obama calls for new ideas when it is his job to create jobs, but the guy is way too dumb and out of touch with your average Joe.

Obama and his Liberal elite buddies don`t understand how real people live, in the way for instance Sarah palin does. More jobs will be lost due to poor policies, budget cuts and socialising health care. Things look bleaker by the day!!

http://www.bls.gov/

Wow, the unemployment figures have dropped to 10% unemployed from 10.2%. This has just changed.

I'd blame Obama for this. < :-)

0 ( +0 / -0 )

adaydream; The figures have fallen soley due to Bushs stimulas plan. Obamas idiotic plans are just about to come to fruition and we shall see mass unemployment, homelessness and despair.

As i said, Obama has to ask others,as he is so out of touch taht he cannot imagine what a disaster his socialist policies have made to moral hardworking decent folk.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

With the 1T we gave the Federal Reserve you would think we would all have jobs growing on trees by now. =Maybe these jobs "cost" more than we thought.

-Bad thing about communism -Lot's of jobs, no work.

I almost feel sorry for all the independents Obama and his campaign fooled into voting for them. But if we progressives cant get permanent control of the government through the healthcare route the Cloward-Piven strategy is the best alternative. Unfortunately mass unemployment is a temporary feature.

Everyone who is 55 years old should be made retire and receive US$1 million in cash. They should be required, out of that money, to buy at least 1 high quality US made fuel efficient car. That by itself would revive the economy overnight. Do the math, and you'll see that it works. It would save quadrillions in stupid warring waste. Check for an idea like this in a Ft.Lauderdale paper in the past year. I can't claim credit. It was a sheer stroke of genius. The other part of this is to bring every single US soldier/sailor/air wo/man home permanently and release all bases overseas forever. Wow! America could be great, peaceful and proud again! Wouldn't THAT be Change We Can Believe IN?

The figures have fallen soley due to Bushs stimulas plan. Obamas idiotic plans are just about to come to fruition and we shall see mass unemployment, homelessness and despair.

Hours for permanent employees are up. Temp hiring agencies are hiring out over the past months. These are both signs that hiring is just about to pick up. Sure it'll take a while for the numbers to drop substantially but it's a start.

I see comments, but I see no reason except nutty ones like DickMorris' bush stimulus plan for the jobs outlook getting better. Snicker.. bush couldn't fix anything, let alone employment.

Things will get better, soon. < :-)

eyes rolling here, then laughing til it hurts lolololol

adaydream; These new jobs are the drip down effect of Bush`s policies. Obama has destroyed this sterling work and we now are looking into a dark period of mass unemployment, malnutrition and deaths due to poor socialised medicine. Obama, you are making us head the wrong way.

What happens in the fourth quarter of most years, even during recessions? Unemployment decreases as companies take on both seasonal and permanent workers to meet fourth quarter demands. According to the Bureau of Labor and Statistics, the unemployment percentage of married men remained the same while the unemployment percentage of married women/female bread-winners decreased. In other words, women are having to make up for unemployed/underemployed spouses/significant others/support-paying spouses by getting jobs made available due to the annual fourth-quarter boost.

The new speculative bubble, driven by low interest rates, has boosted employment rates, but the resulting growth of GDP is unsustainable. Coupled with the collapsing commercial credit market, the danger of a double-dip and/or prolonged recession looms over the inflating economy.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Simplified explanation: The number of jobs decreased by 11,000 but unemployment dropped by 0.2%. Why? The number of people considered unemployed decreased, even though there are less jobs. For example, the number of persons unemployed for 15 weeks or longer increased by 0.2%, suggesting that individuals are dropping off the chart, even though they are still unemployed. This eliminates long-term unemployment in the statistics.

DickMorris, 9 months from now when the jobs market is hiring, will you be saying this is still bush's doing? What if the jobs market get so poor that we're looking at 11% unemployment, will this be bush's doing, also? < :-)

0 ( +0 / -0 )

DickMorris, 9 months from now when the jobs market is hiring, will you be saying this is still bush's doing?" And if they don't you will still say its Bush's doing so you and DM are really not that much different than each other.

right now we have Americans looking for day labor work: http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2009-11-29-citizen-day-laborers_N.htm

The numbers you and the gov like to look at are hardly what's real. Some states only give so much in UI... just because the number goes down does not mean people are getting jobs... Even my brother is doing carpentry. Temp hiring can be a signal things are looking good but it could also mean bad things are to come. You need to see who is temp hiring and for what. If its UPS, Fed EX, Department stores, manufacturing, and packing then that means things are bad. Now, I don't blame the current admin for this but I don't blame the outgoing either. You need to quit being so simple - you've got grown kids. Also, this job sumit was a joke. Look who was there and who was purposefully left out. Why, because the CoC isn't down with the "whole" idea of GW/CO2 they get bumped and they count for more than half the people who could be hiring. That's my gripe. The admin is playing waaaay tooo much into the left's agenda.

-Bad thing about communism -Lot's of jobs, no work." solid statement. We all know what really brought down GM yet unions are being treated as job creators.

LIBERTAS: "Everyone who is 55 years old should be made ( to ) retire and receive US$1 million in cash"

Sounds great! Who's gonna give all these folks all this cash?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

LIBERTAS: "Everyone who is 55 years old should be made ( to ) retire and receive US$1 million in cash"

hmmm... I think by 55 you should well be retired. I'll be damned if I am still working at that age.

LIBERTAS: "Everyone who is 55 years old should be made ( to ) retire and receive US$1 million in cash"

Actually, that would make a lot more sense than Obamas mountain of consecutive "stimulus" pork programs, and be cheaper to boot.
