I don't think it's so important whether she has been to Iraq or not. I think what is important is her understanding of Iraq or her lack of it.

This expose that their VP only went to Kuwait, coupled with the intrepid Maureen Dowd's shocking discovery that palin wears shoes marketed for much younger women, could spell the end for the repubs.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I agree what does this have to do with anything... I think her international knowledge is what matters and at this point in her career it isnt very strong.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I just don't it. For a campaign team that is suppose to be smart they sure are incredibly dumb.

Thanks fellows.......... You just reminded everyone once again that Palin actually went to visit Soldiers of the Alaska National Guard in the Middle east without being goaded into a visit to the troops like Obama was.

You just destroyed your own ridicule that being in charge of the Alaska National Guard isn't any kind of real foreign policy experience.

Good luck with getting any mileage out of she went to an Iraq Kuwait border crossing and re-enlisted one of her Soldiers.

Sheesh...........How clueless can his campaign get?

Add the military to the ever growing list of voting blocs obama's alienated.

The democrat implosion continues.

RR

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Obama has zero experience with the U.S. military, whereas Palin has been the commander of the Alaska National Guard.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

dan quayle is a pants suit is having the wrapper come off now. Much as the repubs want to hide the fact, plain to all who can see, that she is the most inexperienced candidate to run for higher office in modern times.

When she visited Ireland wonder if she picked up gaelic?

Of course is embarrassing for the repubs to have such a clunker on the ticket. The only people who are happy about this choice are the bible thumper types who want Palin to become the jesus president. How awful for mccain to make such a choice purely for political reasons and spit in the face of the country he claims to love. How sick and cynical and desperate.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

RR,

the GIs are smart enough to know that obama will end the iraq war and their chances of being blown up in poorly prepared HVs will end.

There are 4000 plus reasons now for the GIs to vote for the democrats. mccain will start war number three if he wins.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I think the most important thing is if she lied or not. If she did, can the Americans trust her words ? (I personally don't trust any politician of any country :)

0 ( +0 / -0 )

The question here is about what is true and what is not true. It does not matter if Palin ventured 400 meters or 400 millimeters into Iraq. The problem is that the Repubs are lying again. It is a small lie compared to the big lie that got the US into Iraq in the first place. But a lie is a lie is a lie. After 8 years of lies even a little lie is one lie too much.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Barack went to Pakistan, in 1981.

palin can't compete.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

sailwind,

I think you are over-working the point. Obama had already been to Iraq before he was challenged by McCain to go again. Before he was challenged by McCain to go, he had already said that he planned to go.

I don't see what the Alaska National Guard has to do with foreign policy experience. Palin cannot order the Guard to either Kuwait or Iraq. She can visit. But I think she was in less peril in her visit than Hillary was in her visit to Sarajevo, I think she accomplished far less and she doesn't seem to have spent enough time there to have learned anything.

If folks are going to ridicule Hillary for arriving under sniper fire, I don't think we should put the ridicule machine away before we have a chance to use it on the McCain campaign's inconsistent remembrances of Palin's "visit to Iraq". I don't think this is a matter of the Democrats being dumb. I think this is a matter of the Democrats very wisely challenging slick and glossy points on which the McCain campaign is trying to run Palin against Obama.

If you find the Palin visit meaningful, you are free now to switch your vote from Obama to McCain. I don't find it meaningful. I find it a distraction and a sorry attempt to add bulk to Palin's status. Whether she stuck her foot into Iraq or not is not very important. What is important is her foreign policy wisdom--or lack of it.

zurcronium: "obama ( Obama ) will end the iraq ( Iraq ) war"

What's he gonna do, nuke the place? Unless he does that, the war over there is going to continue for years. These people hate each other, remember?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Barack was a community organizer. Palin can't compete with that.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

obama still associates with unrepentant domestic terrorists. Mrs. Palin can't compete with that.

Well said, comrade.

What is important is her foreign policy wisdom--or lack of it.

I agree totally. My question is why did Obama's people shoot themselves in the foot again?

By this silly attack all they did was remind people that she did visit the Middle East and visited the troops. If your going to play down her lack of experience in foreign policy I could think of a ton of better ways then that.

They were getting better play and more mileage out of her "You can see Russia from Alaska" quote.

Can you see where I'm going with this? His campaign staff is suppose to showcase his strengths and downplay his weaknesses. He is already suspect to many Veterans and troops by his opposition to the surge. Palin's son just shipped off to Iraq two days ago.

And his campaign brings up this silly distraction and links Palin to Iraq? Talk about free advertising to showcase Palin as a Governor that cares about the troops and walks the walk by sending her son there.

I'm being serious about this, because his campaign staff is going to be the Whitehouse staff if he is elected and if this is an example as to how they are going Govern and confront important issues that matter to all of us, I'm seeing rank amateur hour. I've been noticing that more and more the past few weeks as to how his staff handles things when they don't go to script.

They should have left this sillyness out. All it did was once again detract from the message. Palin means 4 more years of economic failure. Instead they just keep confirming at least for me that Obama just might really mean 4 more years of inept Government just with a Democratic face to it instead of Bush's.

I'm being as honest and fair as I can because I still hold out hope that Obama can seal the deal with me but that is looking more and more unlikely and I'm basing that on how he and his campaign have handled Palin being added to the ticket.

I think even you can admit they botched that all around and they are still doing it by bringing this who really cares what side of the border she was on crap when she visited the troops over there into the debate.

Just posting my honest opinion on this so far.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Obama has proposed withdrawing all U.S. troops from Iraq within 16 months of taking office. Palin can't compete with that.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Glad the wingers realize this election is over. Cant compete with that. Once the buzz of palin the impaler is over, its all over for grandpa and the snow bunny.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

zurc - "this election is over"

I wouldn't say that. The Democrats still have seven weeks to dig up some real dirt on McCain or Palin.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

sarge, here you go. Todays news. That didnt take long. Palin is not quayle is a skirt, she is bush. 8 years of bush is enough. Dont need another like him, ever.

Gov. Sarah Palin lives by the maxim that all politics is local, not to mention personal.

So when there was a vacancy at the top of the State Division of Agriculture, she appointed a high school classmate, Franci Havemeister, to the $95,000-a-year directorship. A former real estate agent, Ms. Havemeister cited her childhood love of cows as a qualification for running the roughly $2 million agency.

Ms. Havemeister was one of at least five schoolmates Ms. Palin hired, often at salaries far exceeding their private sector wages.

When Ms. Palin had to cut her first state budget, she avoided the legion of frustrated legislators and mayors. Instead, she huddled with her budget director and her husband, Todd, an oil field worker who is not a state employee, and vetoed millions of dollars of legislative projects.

And four months ago, a Wasilla blogger, Sherry Whitstine, who chronicles the governor’s career with an astringent eye, answered her phone to hear an assistant to the governor on the line, she said.

“You should be ashamed!” Ivy Frye, the assistant, told her. “Stop blogging. Stop blogging right now!”

Interviews show that Ms. Palin runs an administration that puts a premium on loyalty and secrecy. The governor and her top officials sometimes use personal e-mail accounts for state business; dozens of e-mail messages obtained by The New York Times show that her staff members studied whether that could allow them to circumvent subpoenas seeking public records.

Rick Steiner, a University of Alaska professor, sought the e-mail messages of state scientists who had examined the effect of global warming on polar bears. (Ms. Palin said the scientists had found no ill effects, and she has sued the federal government to block the listing of the bears as endangered.) An administration official told Mr. Steiner that his request would cost $468,784 to process.

When Mr. Steiner finally obtained the e-mail messages — through a federal records request — he discovered that state scientists had in fact agreed that the bears were in danger, records show.

“Their secrecy is off the charts,” Mr. Steiner said.

zurc - I meant REAL dirt, you know, something that people with common sense would actually get upset about.

There is so much dirt on this woman! and yet Barack is still behind in the polls.

Zurcronium, Can you dig up something with a racism angle anywhere?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Palin did not mentioned the trip during an interview last week with ABC News because she wanted to verify the facts

She needed to verify whether or not she had been in a war zone?

She gets her kicks killing moose.

A loose cannon.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I'm sorry, I must have missed something. Exactly what military orders did Palin deliver to the troops? What military strategies did she formulate? She visited troops. Comedians visit troops. What is it exactly that she did that was more than comedians do? Did she bring them something? Did she offer them something? It is not just the official professional Republican party that lies this board is filled with lying and deceitful Republicans. This article is about the Palin camp lying and the Republican want to spin it as her being a Commander. Feel free to enlighten me on anything she did beside comfort and encourage the troops. Countless other have done the same thing. It is obvious that many of you do not care whether Republican candidates lie or not.

Zurcronium, Can you dig up something with a racism angle anywhere?

In my humble opinion I believe the entire "south" might be a good example. I can't show you the facts; although I believe there are many that could be used to support my contention. Millions and Millions of people believe that when the Democrats under Johnson passed civil rights legislation the southern states turn away from their tradition of voting Democrat and switched to Republican for racists reasons. Now I frame it as my opinion because I am not prepared to dig up all that research only to get my comments removed.

I do not accept causal arguments unless they are supported by hard facts or statistically a causal relationship has been established. Whether the Republicans want to admit it or not a causal relationship has never been established between "the Surge" and a lowering of violence in Iraq. Many insurgent leaders were assassinated at the same time by our intelligence agencies which was a huge factor. Also the radicals had overplayed their hand and the people were turning to moderates which was another factor. There are many other factors that must be taken into consideration before an accurate conclusion can be drawn. I am not saying that "the Surge" did not work; I am simply saying those who say it did have no real facts. They are playing on peoples natural tendencies to associate events when they occur simultaneously. Of course I have a name for that logical fallacy; actually they fall into two separate categories.

In the case of a Post Hoc fallacy, the error is that a person is accepting that A is the cause of B simply because A occurs before B. In the case of the Fallacy of Ignoring a Common Cause A is taken to be the cause of B when there is, in fact, a third factor that is the cause of both A and B.

Sarge , Great post. Patriot know the truth, Palin can be trusted and is honest.

The Liberal media and Obama are trying their best to blacken her name. Problem is, it isn`t working and McCain oulls further ahead in the polls.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

The Liberal media and Obama are trying their best to blacken her name.

Oh, I think Palin would make a pretty good small-town mayor and advocate for abstinence education.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

yabits - Palin's already been a pretty good small town mayor, and a pretty good governor ( 80% of her state's citizens agree ) and she's gonna make a pretty good vice president.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Sarge

They love Palin so much in Alaska she is under an investigation.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Sarge

In all your posts on this thread you never addressed the topic - Palin lies.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

goodDon - Yeah, that investigation is going to exonerate Palin of any wrongdoing.

They love Palin so much she has 80% support.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

goodDon - "Palin lies"

Such as...?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Heh, while the wingers on this board strive to defend their celebreity beauty queen, her own campaign aides, a Lt. Col and members of the Alaska National Guard subsequently explained that she did not venture beyond the Iraq/Kuwait border when she visited the Khabari Alawazem Crossing on July 25, 2007.

Lt. Col. Dave Osborn, commander of the 3d Battalion, 207th Infantry of the Alaska National Guard, who was in charge of the 570 local troops serving in Kuwait and Iraq, said Palin did not cross in Iraq.

"You have to have permission to go into a lot of areas, and (the crossing) is where her permissions were," Osborn told the newspaper during a telephone interview Friday.

So what are the wingers going to do now - continue saying that Palin's lies are somehow true???

0 ( +0 / -0 )

And what about Palin's claims to be a fiscal conservative despite significant growth in the Alaska state budget?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

And what about her claimed "visit to Ireland" that turns out to be nothing more than a refuelling stop?

Or her visit to Mexico that her own campaign insiders have admitted was just a holiday?

Come on Republicans, you need to do better than just blindly support blatant lies and distortions coming from the McCain-Palin Celebrity Team!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

sailwind,

I don't see it that way. I think the Obama campaign is focusing on the economic message. And I think that at the same time it is calling attention to the fulsome excess of the McCain campaign's claims about Palin and the misinformation in the McCain campaign's portrayal of Obama.

I think the Obama campaign needs to do both and I think it is a strength for them. If the Obama campaign does not address the mischaracterizations of the McCain campaign, it will only invite more mischaracterization. By addressing these half-truths and dissemblings, the Obama people force the McCain people to recognize that they continue to make things up at their own peril.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Republican People - admit it - the McCain-Palin Celebrity Ticket is LYING to you.

The facts are out there. I have given you some examples above.

Sarah Palin's own campaign aides are admitting to these dishonest lies and twists of the truth.

Republican People - are you just going to sit there and take this avalanche of lies like you sat there and took the tsunami of lies that has cascaded from the Bush White House since 2000?

Come on Republicans - YOU CAN DO BETTER.

You ARE better people than to take these lies lying down!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

The important thing is that Palin visited the troops on the Iraq-Kuwait border while Obama was dissing Hillary and McCain back in the States.

Sorry, Sushi, this thread isn't about the Alaska state budget.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Q: How do you know when Sarah Palin is lying to you?

A: When her lipsticked lips are moving.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

"McCain-Palin Celebrity Ticket"

They're gonna beat the Obama-Biden Nightmare Ticket.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

SuahiSake - "Republican People - are you just going to sit there and take this avalanche of lies like you sat there and took the tsunami of lies that has cascaded from the Bush White House since 2000?"

I take that back. I honestly DON'T think the Republicans are up to the relatively easy task of calling out the McCain-Palin Celebrity Ticket's blatant lies.

The Republicans would rather just continue doing what they always have done - suck those lies up and ignore the truth, even when it is right in front of them, especially as in this case where Sarah Palin's OWN CAMPAIGN TEAM is admitting the factual distortions that have come out of the McCain-Palin Celebrity Ticket.

Sarge, you first - are you man enough to admit to all of us here on JT that the McCain-Palin Celebrity Ticket has been distorting the truth?

If you can't, it will mean you cannot agree with Sarah Palin's OWN CAMPAIGN TEAM that has admitted to these mistruths.

C-mon Sarge, are you up to it????

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Why do the Democrats show such fear of the moral candidtaes.

Palin did not lie , her visit was well documented.

The US has a dream ticket here, and no liberal slur campaigns are gonna stop that.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

My goodness, Republican lie to us? I thought it was just democrats! Wake up people, even if half of what's been said about Palin is true, she's a nightmare selection for the world. It was her first time outside of the US! Her first passport so she could go visit troops who are in an illegal war to increase world wide terrorism. Yeeehaaaw! www.theendisalwaysnear.blogspot.com

0 ( +0 / -0 )

If the McCain-Palin campaign said Palin visted Iraq, that's technically wrong, as she visited a border crossing between Kuwait and Iraq. I guess to make it technically correct, she should have taken an extra step into Iraqi territory. Sheesh.

nahummer: "she's a nightmare"

nah, that would be the Obama-Biden Nightmare Ticket.

"to visit troops who are in an illegal war to increase world wide terrorism"

Thanks for dissing our brave troops who are fighting the scumbags who would torture and kill you without hesitation or remorse.

For some reason the "quote" thing isn't working on my puter. I agree with everything you said above. My point is about using this particular case as an example of nefarious evilness on her part was and is just plain dumb.

Look at the story...... An aide an unknown aide I might add is the so call source that she visited Iraq. An aide that I would venture to say more than likely didn't even accompany her on that trip. Simple fact checking and Sarah Palin has never ever said she visited Iraq.

Here is her answer in the recent ABC interview with Charles Gibson about her foreign travel:

Canada. Mexico. And then, yeah, that trip that was a trip of a lifetime, to visit our troops in Kuwait and stop and visit our injured soldiers in Germany. That was a trip of a lifetime and it changed my life.

So where was Iraq in her answer about foreign travel? Nowhere. Ohhh scandal, liar release the hounds. An aide got his or her basic facts wrong and Obama and the press pounced. Team Obama should have checked the facts first. This is just going to re-enforce the perception that the press is out to get her all along and keep her in the spotlight, the last thing that Obama needs right now.

I agree with you overall hit them when you have real facts to refute them but for gosh sakes make sure you also have your own ducks in a row when you do or you also just end up looking petty in the process. That will always work in McCain and Palin's favor. They have already more or less declared war on the press as it is..........And much of the public has already decided that is pretty much the case after all the smears that have already been thrown at the lady ever since she was nominated.

Not a good move on Obama's part on using her visit to Kuwait as an example of her lying.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I am in agreement with Sarge and moderateguy2008, great patriots.

Nothing sticks on Palin, she is the Teflon woman. Bwahahaha.

Try as hard as you like liberals, but there is not a shred of evidence that Palin has ever lied or acted ina dishonest manner.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

SwiftBoatVet- Good call buddy! Good to hear from a true American hero.

The Obama camp is in dire straits, in fear of the greatness of McCain and his able successor Palin.

Palin did not lie, i have looked into this, and she tells the truth.

After seeing the facts, i consider the case closed, move on liberals, go to the play park with your buddies. Tee Hee!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Palin's already been a pretty good small town mayor, and a pretty good governor ( 80% of her state's citizens agree )

I did not include governor because it is too early to tell how her decisions truly affect her state. I don't put much in popularity ratings for the first 2-3 years. After all, George W. Bush had very high ratings two years into his first term.

She was probably pretty good with her local PTA.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Sushi - OK, a Palin aide said she traveled 400 meters into Iraq. He/she was apparently 400 meters off. Call it a lie if you want. It'll be known as the "400 Meter Lie"! Ha ha ha!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Breaking news breaking it to the few remaining anti-American supporters of the McCain-Palin Celebrity Ticket -

Senator Barack Obama raised $66 million in August, making it his best month ever and the best in American political history.

Heh.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

moderateguy2008 - "Palin did not lie? She never has."

Please don't forget to wake up out of your dream world.

Today is Sunday.

Sarah Palin's own campaign team has admitted the truth was not told about her "visit" to Iraq.

Even Sarge will admit you are wrong :-)

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Speaking of lies, what about all the lies Obama's been telling everyone about bringing change to Washington? Pffft! The only change he's going to bring is the change in his pocket when he attends McCain's inauguration.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

SwiftBoatVet - "Nothing sticks on Palin, she is the Teflon woman."

Heh, except -

her campaign's lies about her "visit" to Iraq her claim to be a "fiscal conservative" her claim to have blocked the "Bridge To Nowhere" when she initially supported it her claim to have "national security experience" because she "lives near Russia," etc.

It's too much trouble to keep this list going, but you get my point.

:-)

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Sushi: "she initially supported it ( the Bridge to Nowhere )"

Hey, Kerry intially supported the $87 billion before he was against it, and that was OK, why not this? Why the hypocrisy, Sushi?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Barack is only trailing mccain by two and a half points in most polls.

I am pretty sure that when people find out palin LIED about going to Iraq you'll see a sharp reversal.

Barack will be back to the thirty point advantage he held over mccain two months ago.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Heh, Sarge, this thread is not about Obama or Kerry.

Please pay attention. You might miss some more lies coming out of the McCain-Palin Celebrity Ticket.

Quirinus will be voting for McCain.

All this constant sniping by the liberals are childish and pathetic.

TaskForce121, like Sarge and pretty much every anti-American Republican supporter out there, you are also simply not paying attention.

Palin did tell a lie.

Her campaign admitted as much. Lt. Col. Dave Osborn, commander of the 3d Battalion, 207th Infantry of the Alaska National Guard, who was in charge of the 570 local troops serving in Kuwait and Iraq, said Palin did not cross in Iraq - when she said she had gone into Iraq.

Pleaser read this - http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080914/ap_on_el_pr/palin_iraq;_ylt=AvDu76gewBdnXEH17I30c7VsnwcF

Thank you.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Sarge - "It's going to be known as The 400 Meters Out of Thousands of Kilometers Lie."

It's still a lie.

Why can't you just be a man and admit it?

I thought you were some kind of veteran? Clearly, the "honor" bit eluded you.....

0 ( +0 / -0 )

And it just gets worse for the anti-American Republicans -

Slightly off topic, but still worth a read -

"Senator Barack Obama raised $66 million in the month of August, making it his best month ever and the best in American political history. An Obama aide said the campaign added 500,000 new donors to its rolls in August. The new figure -- shattering his previous record of $55 million -- also demonstrates how the increasingly heated, nasty race has energized Obama's fundraising, and raises expectations that he will raise that much or more in the next two months."

Heh, someone's going to need to quietly whisper in Mr. McCain's ear that the race is all but over for him and his celebrity beauty queen....

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Sushi - It's a lie. But it did not come out of Palin's mouth, and it is not going to prevent the election of the McCain-Palin Celebrity Ticket!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Sarge - "It's a lie. But it did not come out of Palin's mouth."

That point is irrelevant - The McCain-Palin Celebrity Ticket did not try to stop it, let alone dispute it, and remember we are talking about an event that reputedly only took place in July 2007, so she can't fall back on her memory growing hazy.

Next thing Sarah Palin will tell us is that she has solid national security credentials because she lives close to Russia.

Ooops!!! She already has! LOL!!!!

The failures of the McCain-Palin Celebrity Ticket just get funnier by the day - someone really shold make a movie for TV Bloopers, they'd make millions! :-).

0 ( +0 / -0 )

sailwind,

An aide reported it and an aide disputed it. It seems to me as though the issue is in perspective.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I agree with the Republicans. I thought Obama was the best candidate, but now i see he is just petty and childish.

Palin has a good record without deceit, she obvioulsy is a great mum.

Sarge and Moderateguy2008 are the type of Americans us Brits admire, they are suppoerting the honest cnadidate, Palin would make a great and honest president.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

"The McCain-[Sarah] Palin ticket, they don't want to debate the Obama-Biden ticket on issues because they are running on eight more years of what we've just seen. And they know it. As a consequence, what they're going to spend the next seven, eight weeks doing is trying to distract you."

Hey guys, calm down, ok? Breath deeply and relax.

Let`s get a fair and balanced view on this matter. The Obama camp has called Palin a liar, not a god call unless you have certain proof. The proof has not been fothcoming, the accusations are codswallop!

Palin did vist Iraq, the facts show her to be truthfull. I now expect all the far left guys on this board to apologise to the Palin and her supporters.

Be patriots not pinheads.

Giving it to you straight.

Aqnd that's a wrap.

Heh, in only a matter of days, maybe a week, the term "Sarah Palin" will have entered into common usage.

Here's some tips on correct usage:

Ex. 1:

Republican: "But it's true - Saddam Hussein really did have WMD!"

Grounded American: "Heh, you've been Sarah Palin'd."

Ex. 2 Republican: "But John McCain is being truthful when he says his campaign team fully vetted the history of his vice presidential nominee!"

Grounded American: "Heh, you've been Sarah Palin'd."

Ex. 3 Republican: "But George Bush said we are fighting a "War on Terror"!"

Grounded Patriotic American: "Heh, you've been Sarah Palin'd."

It's just going to add fodder to the fire.

The republicans require truths of the democrats and publish lies or half/truths.

The democrats are paying more attention to the truths they tell and get clobbered because the republicans are out posting half/truths.

The democrats need to be slapping down the republican lies as fast as they come out. Not just feltching out the truths, but actively campaigning harder and with more teeth then they are.

The problem, democrats unlike republicans have never been as vile as republicans are. And the voters react to bitterness with enthusiasm unfortunately. < :-)

This campaign is going nowhere fast.

McCain, who clearly stated he wanted a clean campaign, has now turned into a master of lies and deception, and has hired a deputy of equal if not greater skills at telling point blank lies.

Meanwhile, Obama's campaign just raises a US election campaign record $66 million and signs up 500,000 more decent patriotic Americans who are just fed up to here with the lies and mistruths pouring out of the McCain-Palin Celebrity Ticket.

That's a wrap!

SushiSake3; Fox news will furnish you with the facts. BBC does not even cover the story, as there is no truth to the allegations.

Us Republicans are above these accusations, we have the moral high ground, as always.

I will help myself to an extra large dose of wheatgrass juice when Barack is elected. But first he has to regain his lead in the polls.american politics heat up after Labor Day. I regret to break it to foreigners following our election but a lot of the hype preceding the conventions wasnt representative of the entire electorate. It was the hard only core political junkies Right now the trend is not looking good for Barack. I think the debates will help. palin's lipstick is no match for Joe Biden's hairplugs.

While it's never good to be caught in a lie, I'm less concerned about whether Governor Palin put a toe over the line than what she said at her son's recent deployment ceremony, namely they would be fighting “the enemies who planned and carried out and rejoiced in the death of thousands of Americans.”

Although she may not be familiar with the Bush doctrine, surely she's aware even he has acknowledged Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11 which was carried out mainly by Saudi nationals?

Nor do I feel the ability to see Russian territory from an Alaskan island constitutes solid foreign policy experience. It was about as reassuring as GWB's looking into Putin's eyes and proclaiming he saw "the soul of a good man."

Betzee - Palin is not saying Saddam Hussein was responsible for 9/11. She's saying Islamic extremists were responsible for 9/11 and that her son and other brave Americans at the deployment ceremony will be fighting Islamic extremists in Iraq.

Otherwise known as the "we're fighting them over there so we don't have to face them here" rationale. Yet this was only introduced after an exhaustive search failed to turn up WMD which was offered as the justification for the invasion and the US confronted an unforeseen insurgency comprised of many of Iraqi groups, such as the Madhi Army, jockeying for domestic advantage. Hardly where the Bush doctrine that, in short, made "pre-emption" the basis for US foreign policy was supposed to lead us.

Incidentally, Charlie Gibson asked candidate Ron Paul about it in January, and the Congressman had a ready response:

The Bush doctrine of preemptive war is not a minor change; this is huge. This is the first time we, as a nation, accept as our policy that we start the wars.

Lindsay Lohan couldn't take the injustice of it all anymore. She has lashed out at the palin choice.

This could be the end for the repubs.

Good morning Sarge - do you have any comment about Betzee's 7.55am post?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Good morning, Sushi. Yes, Betzee is implying that we are war mongers bent on world domination or some such nonsense. The fact is the Bush Doctrine means we reserve the right not to sit back and get hit first. These days doing that means losing thousands if not millions of our citizens. Got it?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Sarge- Hehe, putting the liberals in their place as ever.

Palin is fit to lead our nation, she has been honest throughout the campaign.

Iraq is secure because of leaders like her, not appeasers like Obama and BIden who would give the terrorists money, in hope of pacifying them!!!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Sarge,

I think we should reserve the right to strike first. And I think we should keep that right in reserve until we have exhausted other possibilities and until the threat is imminent. I don't believe we did this in Iraq.

Palin didnt lie thats the simple truth, One of her aides (as a governor) miss spoke , and most likely didnt have the right to speak on her behalf.. Tell me no one has ever said well Sushisake3 told me (sushisake3) did this.... and it wasnt right it was not what really happened?

As an experiment line up 100 people and whisper a secret to the first person, by the end it wont be any where close to what was started, doesnt mean anyone lied it just means they told it different then they actually where told...

Same goes for Obama when he was asked about his religious belief and he mistakenly said his Muslim belief, he didnt really mean it it was just a slip of the tounge right? and he corrected this slip and said christian belief, does this make him a liar as he said one thing and changed it to another?

As far as Obama calling it out, I think that was a grave mistake as it shows they are mis informing people by saying Palin lied when the proof shows she didnt say anything like that.

I still believe all politicians lie and its what turns me away from wanting to vote for any of them.

Latest polls in Minnesota show them dead even at 45/45 this is the first time in many many years a Rep has been any where close to the DEMS in a presidential election poll..

So hopefully the Election comes and all the armchair politicians can go back to arguing about which stupid soccer team tore their shirt off the best when they scored a goal.......

That is very true, we didnt use that in WW2 and it cost us dearly, but we over stepped our boundries in Iraq, although we should of finished it in the first war with them as it was when the people of Iraq stood up to him and we had the worlds support..

I am not going to argue the basis of the Bush Doctrine where it says we have a right to conduct a preemptive strike when our national security is endangered. I do not think we have studied the ramifications thoughrouly and since we have not had to use it we should continue to study it before we use it. By that I mean Afghanistan was not a preemptive strike because we knew the government was in cohouts with Ossama and they drew first blood. Iraq did not qualify because our national security was not being threatened.

However even if you consider that the executive branch percieved that our national security was at risk they went beyond the simple theory of a preemtive strike and added a caveot. SezWho2 correctly stated, "And I think we should keep that right in reserve until we have exhausted other possibilities and until the threat is imminent. I don't believe we did this in Iraq." It was clearly not imminent. I have been shouting it off the rooftops for years that there was no imminent danger. We had a no fly zone at the time. We were flying U.S Air Force F-16 and F-15 jets over Iraqi airspace every single day. We had AWACs (which is far beyond simple radar in gaining assement of the enemies capabilities and movement) in the sky at the time. We had other sophisticated intelligence gathering aircraft recording their every movement. They had no delivery systems. Let me say it again! They had no delivery systems. It was impossible for them to bomb anywhere beyond their borders. We were not letting there jets take off and we could see from aerial intelligence that they had no missle launch systems. What were we worried about; the Iraqis were going to drive a semitrailer to America and detonate a bomb? So let's be perfectly clear Bush not only advocated preemptive strikes he advocted a strike on a nation that had no capabilities in the foreseeable future. It was regime change pure and simple. We attacked another country so we could change the government. So, Sarge, you don't "got it." We could not have been "hit first." Remember, Sarge, jets, flying over Iraq even when they did not let inspectors in we had complete command and control. So that could never mean "losing thousands if not millions of our citizens. Got it?"

Um, no I wasn't (though Ron Paul was). Rather I was pointing out that a potential vice president is unable to identify was has become the core tenet of US foreign policy since 11 September 2001, and this is not a major gaffe? I means how low have you guys set the bar?

I am not going to argue the basis of the Bush Doctrine where it says we have a right to conduct a preemptive strike when our national security is endangered.

I think very few would argue that. The problem with the Bush doctrine is that it was implemented on a "shoot first, ask questions later" basis to justify a preemptive strike against Saddam with his reconstituted nuclear weapons program. Indeed, even asking questions would put our national security at risk given the specter of the "mushroom cloud." Don't you remember GWB expressing impatience in late 2002? I mean he had already penciled in the start date.

Obama has visited Iraq twice and Afghanistan once. He also went a lot further in than 4 football fields.

Not only has Barack been to Iraq twice but he also negotiated with officials there , telling them to wait til he is our president before agreeing to a drawdown of our invading and occupying force.

Pure genius.

The repubs cant compete. Hahahahahaha, tooo funny.

ModerateGuy,

What you are saying is describing the Republicans.T he only reason why the violence has gone down is because the Bush Administration has being paying rebels and terrorist monthly payments to stop fighting. Once the money goes the fighting starts. This is documented facts.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

The surge was also not the main reason violence has decreases recently. One of the main factors has been the neighborhoods have become mostly segregated. The Shiite and Sunni are not fighting because they see less of each other. During the intense fighting, whichever group was the minority eventually fled to an area safer for them. Shiite in Shiite neighborhoods, Sunni in Sunni neighborhoods. The surge started after most of the violence had ceased.

Betzee,

Otherwise known as the "we're fighting them over there so we don't have to face them here" rationale.

And we're facing them in Iraq because we care so much about the Iraqis that we bring our war to their door.

With friends like that...who needs enemies, eh?

With America facing historic debt, multiple war fronts, stumbling health care, a weakened dollar, all-time high prison population, skyrocketing Federal spending, mortgage crises, bank foreclosures, etc. etc., this is an unusually critical election year. The idea of “leadership” must be broadened from mere “experience” to include knowledge, ability to learn and insight.

Let's look at the educational background of your two options:

Obama: Occidental College - Two years. Columbia University - B.A. political science with a specialization in international relations. Harvard - Juris Doctor (J.D.) Magna Cum Laude

& Biden: University of Delaware - B.A. in history and B.A. in political science. Syracuse University College of Law - Juris Doctor (J.D.)

vs.

McCain: United States Naval Academy - Class rank 894 of 899

& Palin: Hawaii Pacific University - 1 semester North Idaho College - 2 semesters - general study University of Idaho - 2 semesters - journalism Matanuska-Susitna College - 1 semester University of Idaho - 3 semesters - B.A. in journalism

Now, which team are you going to hire ?
