vinnyfav: The rhetoric in the comments are hilarious. Not sure if any posters actually studied economics themselves, or if they only read online news and take all their ideas from there. Haha.

It's not like Congress are any brighter either. This is a classic moment.

The headline reads:

Obama challenges Republicans to keep tax cuts for middle class

But buried in the article is this little gem:

Some democrats oppose any extension

So, the bigger question is why isn't all of the democrats on board with this proposal?

Just settle on a long term rate already. One of the primary reasons behind the phantom recovery is that no business wants to invest given such a high level of uncertainty.

If I want to open a small business what kind of taxes am I going to have to pay? What kind of benefits will I be required to provide to my employees? How do I hire employees without violating the law? How to I fire employees without breaking the law? What kind of permits and devices does the government require me to have to run my business? If I don't have any employees do I still need to make my workplace handicap accessable?

If I want to open a larger business I have to answer those same questions but I also have to deal with more taxes. Do I have to complete an environmental impact report? What kind of zoning laws are in place? How do I offset my starting expenses? How do I get a loan without becoming a slave to my debt for the rest of my life?

If I want to open a large plant that employs a ton of people the mountain of paperwork is almost impossible to overcome without hundreds of millions just for compliance. If I open this plant will there be a carbon tax next year? WIll I be required to install 'green' products.

This idea that government has to be involved in every little thing is making job creation a nightmare at every level of the economy. The Democrats are making it a pain by making it harder to deal with employees and mucking around with costly regulations that serve little if any purpose. Meanwhile the Republicans keep passing laws the gum up the legal system and cost millions of dollars to litigate. And they both engauge in blatent cronism by making it impossible to enter many industries and they both keep trying to impose their own moral and ideological standards on the people.

At this point it would be better if they just broke down and said we won't be changing anything for 10 years. What you see is what you get for the next decade, have fun. And you know what? I would, because then I could actually plan stuff, then I could actually read all the stuff that passes by my desk. Even if what we have right now is a mess better a mess I know than a mess I don't.

"Serrano, agreed. How about NO salary for the pols? That might weed out the riff-raff."

What, so only fat-cats living comfortably off investments like Romney can apply? No thanks.

Heh, you're sounding like François Hollande up there Serrano, are you ok?

"another deeply partisan fight in Congress"

Of course, what else ( roll eyes )? How about throwing out the two major parties' lawmakers, and vote in a third party into power? I have in mind The Serrano Party! Platform: Cut the federal budget by about a third. There's so much waste by the federal gov't it's not even funny. Serrano Party lawmakers' salaries would be a third less than the current salaries, to set the example.

The "Job Creators" are enjoying some of the lowest corporate tax rates in recent history. Why aren't they creating jobs???

That is because their feelings are hurt. Obama got angry at them after their banker brethren crashed the world economy, and after such a severe scolding, they don't feel like doing anything except speculate on oil 'n stuff. They want an apology and recognition for their jobs-giving largess, and then maybe they'll deign to create jobs again. Until then - well, no jobs for you. Poor wilting flowers.

Smoke and Mirrors from both the libtards and neoconpublicans headed by the obfuscator in chief. REAL spending cuts in conjunction with lowered taxes and raised interest rates are the way to go. Stop stealing the little man's money only to funnel the ill-gotten loot to the cronies. Dismantle the MIC .

"When it comes to economics, Obama doesn't have a clue"

Wolfapck, I watched you cheer on Bush right here on JT as he went to work like a madman possessed with the Chinese credit card. Can't you Repub types show a little consistency?

" if the want Mr. Romney's records then they need to get their person to release his as well."

I wasn't aware Obama had offshore holdings he was refusing to shed light on, as is in the case of Romney.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Democrats have hit that message hard in recent days as they call on Romney to release more tax returns and give details of holdings in foreign tax havens like Bermuda, the Cayman Islands and Switzerland.

More democrat double standard, if the want Mr. Romney's records then they need to get their person to release his as well.

I mean, the conservatiPublicans keep on saying we just need to cut taxes on their "Job Creator" friends and everything will be rosy.

Feel free to give your money to Obama...

Or you could emulate Romney and aggressively tackle every loophole available.

By the way, skipbeat, I am sure those in the military or overseeing America's national monuments or whatnot might quite disagree with the idea that taxpayers "give...money to Obama." You might remember that Congress has set up automatic spending cuts and tax increases that will be triggered by failure to reach budget deficit reduction proposals. Romney is on record stating that budget reduction can happen with further tax cuts (skewed towards the wealthy, of course) and simultaneous defense budget increases. Obama believes in a mixture of spending cuts and tax increases while holding military budget increases to inflation. Tossing in unicorns and rainbows would make Romney's projections more realistic.

@paulinusa,

It makes sense that businesses owners would donate money to Romney when Obama have put regulations on their businesses like taxes. It only takes one to read Obamacare and the word "tax" and "penalty" comes up so often in reference to businesses.

Feel free to give your money to Obama along with your friends when it comes to weddings and birthdays etc. because he sees that he is more important than when it comes to you.

Obama campaign soliciting birthday, wedding gifts in fundraising ploy By Lindsey Boerma @ http://www.cbsnews.com/8334-503544_162-57459110-503544/obama-campaign-soliciting-birthday-wedding-gifts-in-fundraising-ploy/

"Obama have billionaires and millionaires friends who fund his re-election campaign too." "what's your point.'

Romneys's campaign has far less small donors and much more donations from the wealthy.

paulinusa: And more possibly those, shhh , millionaires and billionaires that support the Romney campaign financially.

Obama have billionaires and millionaires friends who fund his re-election campaign too. Obama is a millionaire too. what's your point.

“Middle-class families drive the economy and middle-class voters will decide the election,” he said. “This helps the president continue to tell the story that he’s doing everything he can for them, while Romney ships their jobs overseas.”

The campaign ads have shown that the biggest liar wins. Obama have millionaires and billionaires friends who shipped jobs overseas too. The middle-class is shrinking. People across the board do not have disposal income to spend on frivolous things.

President Barack Obama called on Monday for a one-year extension of Bush-era tax cuts for families earning less than $250,000 a year, seeking to steer the election-year debate away from high unemployment and portray himself as a champion of ordinary Americans.

Obama spent 3.5 years blaming Bush and yet will use Bush tax cut to extend it so that he gets re-elected. Obama can not come up with a better tax cut for the middle-class. People should question why not extend to 4 years instead of 1 year if Obama wants to help the middle-class. Obama's tactic is to appease the voters and buy their vote until he gets re-elected. Besides, the middle-class are the ones who will be taxed on Obamacare too.

"Romney’s campaign said on Monday that Obama’s tax proposal would amount to a “massive tax increase” on families, job creators and small businesses."

And more possibly those, shhh , millionaires and billionaires that support the Romney campaign financially.

Obama challenges Republicans to keep tax cuts for middle class

Wasn't it Obama who said that you don't raise taxes on anyone during a recession? That's why the man signed a bill to authorize the extension of the "Bush" tax cuts - now the Bush/Obama tax cuts. So now with the US economy again tilting toward recession he wants raise taxes on just those millionaires and billionaires making over $250,000 a year (I know, it doesn't make sense but not much of what Obama says makes any sense these days).

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aufAtuTwKlE

Instead of continuing to distort the tax system by providing government favoritism to his political friends and crony's he should be flattening and simplifying the tax system to wring out the indefensible inefficiencies and waste that inflicts harm on the economy.

When it comes to economics, Obama doesn't have a clue. He is driving the car out of the ditch and over a cliff. He is starting to make Jimmy Carter look like Milton Friedman.
