Perhaps it will be his first and last visit to India as a President of the USA.

Republican "estimate" (aka: lie) about the cost of Obama's trip: $200 million a day!!

And you really want these conservatives handling a budget?

Perhaps it won't. We don't know yet.

yabits: Republican "estimate" (aka: lie) about the cost of Obama's trip: $200 million a day!!

If Obama comes clean about how much it cost including Secret Service and Air Force One along with his entourage then the people wouldn't be making an issue out of it.

The Republicans and anyone guess how much it cost.

$200 million a day, skippy? Why not make an issue using numbers within the realm of reality?

Obama hasn’t been able to drive down unemployment in America, so he’s coming to India in search of U.S. jobs.

Translation: This is another one of his deep bowing trips.

@yabits, $200 million a day includes everyone who is with Obama. Do you expect his entourage and the Secret Services to sleep in a 1 star hotel miles away from the president? The tab adds up very quickly when it include others. Obviously spending the tax payers money is no hardship on Obama's part. Instead of wasting tax payers money shouldn't Obama be at home and fix the economy? Nothing wrong with no spending money or be as frugal like the common people because he would have contribute in saving the tax payers money.

A lot of people don't have jobs back home, and how is his visit to India suppose to help the jobless in the States? American jobs went to India.

$200 million a day, skippy? Why not make an issue using numbers within the realm of reality?

Back when I was on AD, Ihad a friend who flew with Marine 1 for Pres. Clinton. He told me when they made a trip to South Africa, their supply officer had a credit card with well over a million dollar limit on it, and they had made resrvations for an entire floor at one of the best hotels for the flight crews and assocaite persons.

So, the price is pretty high, but probably not in the 200 million a day. You have to take into consideration the salaries of the military that will be in place there. A lot of background work goes into these types of visits.

It was far off that they reported that 34 ships were being sent, but I can say that there are some ships that are in what one would call a "tether" that are only a few hours steaming distance from Mumbai. this visit has been well orchastrated.

No US President reveals the cost of the trips, mainly for security reasons. But analysts can later estimate the tabs after the trip is over. The most expensive known US Prez trip is Clinton's 7-country trip estimated to be about $50 million - total. Inflation can't be so bad as to turn that into $200 million - a day.

Besides, the $200 million number only originated from one Indian journalist. Really now, how much faith would you put on that person? I wouldn't even trust Wikipedia, let alone one distant member of the media.

Obama just can't stop campaigning, promoting himself. I do believe that for the kind of narcissist he is the adulation and the attention he gets, even if negative, helps him cope with the incomprehensible - - his quasi-religious vision of a socialist America has been rejected by the very people whom he believed he was leading to a greater reality.

he’s coming to India in search of U.S. jobs.

He might find thousands of jobs that used to be in the US, and that have now been outsourced to India, as the corporates seek to maximise their profits.

However, there are some companies who returning them to the US, as clients and customers have fumed and gone elsewhere after frustrations with helplines and customer services located in India...

But when they outsource who is benefited from the profits?? American only!!!! Also they outsource as they dont have the same caliber manpower at home.

"We cannot allow our anxieties about globalization to cause us to demonize India for crass political gain," said Republican Senator John McCain.

Obama will be the sixth American President to visit India after (in preceding order) Presidents Bush, Clinton, Carter, Nixon, and Eisenhower.

@yabits The $200 million a day came from Indian estimates not conservatives. Some commentators echoed this price tag because there was no official price tag. Either way all those hotel rooms, fleet, staff, security. What do you put the daily costs of this trip at? and why is this trip necessary when the U.S. is in such dire financial circumstances?

The war in Afghanistan costs about $180 million a day.

So Right wingers are saying Obama's Indian trip is costing the taxpayer more than the war in Afghanistan.

That's hilarious and deluded to the extreme.

RomeoRamen - "This is another one of his deep bowing trips."

Romeo just can't deal with having a leader whose first instinct isn't to stick an arrogant finger in the face of whoever he meets.

That is supposed to describe Bush?

Man, how much more uninformed could any one person possibly be? The guy had his faults - like any man - but as regards the US relationship with India probably no US president did more for them. Throughout his presidency Bush had very high approval ratings in India, as he did in Africa.

"When history is written, it will be recorded that Bush played a historic role in bringing our democracies closer: PM"

“The credit for ending India’s nuclear apartheid goes to you”

“In opinion polls, ratings for Bush higher in India than any other country”

to check for yourself, broaden your mind a little.

Obama is going to have a tough time matching Bush's achievements in US - India relations.

The guy had his faults - like any man -

see.... started two wars, one of them under false pretenses, the other after not bothering to read the memo that stuff was about to happen, made America a laughing stock around the world with his faux pas, buffoonery and mangulation of the English language... no, can't say that's like any man I know. And while I suppose anything could happen in the next 2 (or 6) years, I very much doubt that Obama is going to display that kind of 'fault'.

Moderator: Stay on topic please.

Now everyone is raving about China, but India is not doing so bad either, so it does pay Mr.Obama to go over to India, let them know we stand side by side against terrorism, and let them know if they need our refrigerators, airconditioners, swimming pools, speed boats, jet skis etc...that MADE IN THE USA ain't too bad and if they have the Rupees to pay, we have the goods for them to play.

If you do a google search for 'President Obama Offers Diwali Greeting' on Huffingtonpost.com, you will find a photo of U.S. president Barack Obama bowing on his current trip to India.

Apparently there's still some Americans out there who simply aren't mature enough to handle the fact that their elected leader chooses to show respect to leaders and dignatories of other countries.

The $200 million number is just plain stupid. If you are repeating it you deliberately trying to mislead people.

Besides, the $200 million number only originated from one Indian journalist. Really now, how much faith would you put on that person?

A Republican Congresswoman, Michelle Bachman, put enough faith in it to mindlessly repeat it in a news conference -- asserting it was fact.

The $200 million a day came from Indian estimates not conservatives. Some commentators echoed this price tag because there was no official price tag.

Well, shame on them. Bachman and a few others echoed it too.

Why? Because no lie is too big to be questioned when regarding a president these people personally want to destroy.

Obama is going to have a tough time matching Bush's achievements in US - India relations.

Not really. Most of the credit for the improvement of relations goes to Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. The man is simply one of the greatest heads of state in the world today.

Obama and Singh are very similar in temperment and outlook, and should get along famously. I foresee a tremendously successful trip, one that only improves upon the relationship between India and the US. We understand that those whose dislike of President Obama is such that they hope for failure to fuel continued boasting.

Obama likes to bow. That has already been established. We shall see. I think he is desperate to have the Indian Parliament approve of him.

Michelle Bachman is a rabid Republican partisan. I doubt she "put faith" in anything but the figure's potential to make Obama look bad.

skipbeat: The number is grossly delusional.
