Since he can't get specific this is as meaningless as all the other talking points that his handlers put on his teleprompter.

The only way Barrak Hussein can re-boot the image of the US ("the big satan") among muslims is if he arranges that the US converts collectively to islam, as suggested by Pres. Ahmedinejad in his famous letter to Bush from May 2006.

That would be bring "peace" in the islamic world-view. Alas, he´d still have to decide if to convert to Shia or Sunni islam, and while both Sunni and Shia islam considers the unbeliever world as "house of war" that has to be fought, they also consider each other as corrupt, and will then proceed to fight each other until one denomination wins.

So, Barrack.... good luck with that rebooting!

Moderator: We have said on many occasions that Obama's middle name is not to be used, unless it is referred to in the story.

Enough of an answer I hope??

Well done.

United States: Ryan Anderson, life for trying to aid Al Qaeda while serving as a National Guardsman. David Belfield, assassinated a former Iranian diplomat outside Washington and fled to Iran. Clement Rodney Hampton-el, 35 years for helping bomb the World Trade Center in 1993. Mark Fidel Kools, death sentence for "fragging" and killing two of his army officers. John Muhammad, death sentence for his role as the lead "Beltway Sniper." Randall Royer, twenty years for weapons and explosives charges "stemming from the investigation into a militant jihadist network in Northern Virginia." Five members of Jamaat ul Fuqra, a Pakistan-based group suspected of at least thirteen murders in America, jailed for up to 69 years.

United States: Adam Gadahn, sought in connection with "possible terrorist threats" against the United States. Three of four members in the Jam'iyyat Ul-Islam Is-Saheeh, accused of planning a terror spree in the Los Angeles area, are converts. Jose Padilla, accused of planning to "make an improvised dirty bomb," or a radiological dispersion device. Three members of an alleged group, Rafiq Sabir, Tarik Shah, and Mahmud Faruq Brent, are accused of pledging an oath to Al-Qaeda. The list of unindicted co-conspirators in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing includes two American Islamist star converts, Siraj Wahhaj and Bilal Phillips, and what appears to a number of lesser ones (Jack Hamrick, John Kinard, Frank Ramos, Kelvin Smith, Richard Smith).

Thats just a list another put together of the American born converts to the muslim faith who have been into terrorist. My first guy wasnt a citizen he just lived in the US for years and years preaching.

Obama has to not only fix the image of us on them he needs to fix the image they have to us. Its a two way street and yes there have been American born Muslims to do terrorist things here and abroad.

Enough of an answer I hope??

Liberating 50 million in Iraq and Afghanistan has created a lot of jealousy in hellholes of Islamic social engineering like Pakistan and Iran and Egypt.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I don't believe there is anything we can do. If you want to use the war, remember that Muslims are like elephants and forgiveness is not in their language. There is a fight going on and it really no longer matters who fault it is. They are united (amazing how they can unite but we can't; they are white, black, dark skinned, orientals and all are untied) and they really don't want peace with the devil.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Excuse me Non-American Muslims. Fat fingers and slow mind today. < :-)

0 ( +0 / -0 )

First you have Non-Muslims attacking the U. S.

adaydream, what non-Muslims and what attacks are you referring to? You're not making any sense.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Yeah, we especially need to reboot our image with the Muslims in Bosnia whom we saved from the Serbs. Also the Muslims in Indonesia and Pakistan whom we helped after natural disasters. Also the Muslims in Afghanistan and Iraq whom we liberated from awful dictators.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

First you have Non-Muslims attacking the U. S.

Then you have an American president who attacks a virtually defenseless country as an act to receive benefits from profiteering on it.

After that horrific act we have to work to reboot our image. < :-)

What about the first horrific act? Who's image needs to be rebooted for that?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

adaydream

Perception is reality. Obama does a service to America by at less recognizing that America has an image problem among many muslims. Voicing this will lead some muslims to lower their guard enough to actually entertain the idea of finding common ground.

What you don't seem to acknowledge is that non- muslim and some muslim Americans have concerns with the image of Islam and some of its practitioners. Muslims do not have a monopoly on "perception". People know who seem to be the loudest promoters of Islam and they are not the moderates. No amount of denials of that will change Americans' minds.

Obama is acknowledging to the muslims that America has an image problem, who is acknowledging to America that muslims have an image problem?

beambreak - Yeah back on topic.

Barack Obama hopes to reboot U. S. image among Muslims.

Adam Yahiye Gadahn formerly Adam Pearlman is wanted for treason not for commiting acts of terrorism on American soil.

You guys with all of these permutations after the fact. Now its an American Muslims commiting acts of terrorism on American soil

Keep moving those goal post.

Everyone seems to assume the rational when we’re talking about the irrational. I believe it was Napoleon who said that religion was invented by the rich to keep the poor from killing them – and I think he put that rather well. In countries and regions dominated by societies where most/all of life is dictated by the strict doctrines of religious belief, improving our image is likely impossible. And before you argue that western societies such as our own are dictated by equally religious doctrines in the form of Christianity, that’s a joke as most that hypocritically go to church on Sundays do everything contrary to what is their religion teaches. Religion in the U.S. and other Western democracies is mainly a thing of convenience and playing to the irrational fear that if you don’t go then some chap dressed in red with horns and pitchfork will roast you over an eternal fire.

The old corny ‘freedom comes with a price’ is essentially true, but there are many costs. One of them is that the religiously driven see us as godless heathens without morals, and there is little we can do that will change that without embracing their faith. I’m perfectly at peace with the fact that when I shirk off the mortal coil that my bones and flesh will rot and I will simply be no more. If others want to kill each other or hate each other in the name of something that they irrationally believe in out of fear, I don’t wish to be dragged into it. The soon-to-be President can try his best, and I wish him all the luck, but it really will not make any difference. It is essentially reasoning with insanity – and I don’t mean that as a knock on Muslims per say as I think any religion of the same ilk (scary Southern Baptists and Jehovah’s Witnesses come to mind) is much the same.

It’s both funny and tragic that we laugh at the Greeks and Romans for all of their interesting gods from mythology but current beliefs are no less ignorant and based on that same primal fear that man has of death. But the fear is strong and pandering to the Muslims will not make them like us any more.

Helter_Skelter posted The Muslims need to reboot their image to the US, not the other way around. It appears

I ask him *Helter_Skelter what should Muslims do to better their image? I don't know what any American Muslim have done here in the United States that has disrespected the United States. Do you?

Nippon5 posted - And to answer adaydreams question here is one who was involved in the 1993 bombing. Omar Abdel-Rahman.

Then beanbreak posted - That's easy... Adam Yahiye Gadahn better known as Azzam the American.

He's only run his mouth on the internet. Gawd, I thought he did something horrible, since you said he wsas wanted by the FBI.

In 2004, he was added to the FBI Seeking Information - War on Terrorism list.[3] On October 11, 2006 he was removed from that list, and placed on the Bureau of Diplomatic Security Rewards for Justice Program list of wanted criminals.[4] On the same day, Gadahn was indicted based on the testimony of the FBI case agent E.J. Hilbert II, in the Southern Division of the United States District Court for the Central District of California by a federal grand jury for the capital crime of treason for aiding an enemy of the United States (i.e. Al-Qaeda). Gadahn is the first American charged with treason since 1952.[5]

That's where the question came from.

Like I posted, what do the Muslims have to do to reboot their image in the US. They've done nothing wrong. The terrorist attacks we've endured were committed by Non-Americans. < :-)

Adam Yahiye Gadahn formerly Adam Pearlman is wanted for treason not for commiting acts of terrorism on American soil.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Who is talking about American Muslims anyway.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

adaydream

Allow me to answer that for Nippon5. You asked

Name me one American Muslim who ever carried out a terrorisr act against the US. < :-)

That's easy... Adam Yahiye Gadahn better known as Azzam the American. He is on the FBI's Most Wanted List, with a reward of up to $1 million for information leading to his capture.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Nippon5, Omar Abdel-Rahman is not an American and never was.

So you never answered my question.

Name me one American Muslim who ever carried out a terrorisr act against the US. < :-)

put all women in the USA in burkas" well, if it shuts a lot of them up, I'm all for it...

Yeah Skip, submissive and controlled like Muslim and Japanese women right, you can't handle a real woman who speaks her mind? Why should western women shut up? If anything they need to speak out more. Now that Jerry Falwell is dead it should be easier.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Indeed, I also often wondered why is it that those who have harmed the US the most have also had their butts kissed the most by the US. BTW, I am not referring to Muslims.

Indeed, we all know to which religion you are referring.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

put all women in the USA in burkas" well, if it shuts a lot of them up, I'm all for it...

I don't know why we really need bend down to them at this point. If its the war, they need to remember that there was a catalyst that go it going and it wasn't the US. If its due to our support for Israel, then we need to decide to either drop them or keep on supporting them and goals need to be clarified.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

And to answer adaydreams question here is one who was involved in the 1993 bombing. Omar Abdel-Rahman. He was a direct part in the bombing including the planning.

Helter: "The Muslims need to reboot their image to the US, not the other way around."

It's not a one-way street, my friend. As I said before, if Obama is going to try and improve the world-wide tarnished image of the US, that's only a positive thing, SO LONG AS MUSLIMS ALSO DO THE SAME! People like you need to get off your butts and actually do something positive, instead of expecting everything to be done for and handed to you on a silver platter. You love the Iraq war but are chickenhawks who can't fight themselves; you want the Muslims to condemn terrorism, and when they do it's not enough (ie. YOU are the one who has to change the attitude, not them!), etc.

And pulling someone aside at an airport simply based on their name is pure ignorance, and that's all there is to it. Now that that's been said, how about answering adaydream's question?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Terrorist didnt start attacking American soil when GWB became president. They attacked fist when Clinton was President The original bombing of the World trade center was done in 1993 by Muslim members of a terrorist cell of AQ. This first attack killed 6 and injured over 1000 people.

And to answer adaydreams question here is one who was involved in the 1993 bombing. Omar Abdel-Rahman. He was a direct part in the bombing including the planning.

What ever Obama does will not change the way certian cultures see the west. The view that the west is corrupt has been around since the west became a power. It wont go away because we have a half black president. Its a religious issue not a political one and politics will never remove the issue from the minds of the religious people.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

If thats what Obama wants he better get ready to hand the Koran to each American and put all women in the USA in burkas, because according to a majority of Muslims in countries that are a majority Muslim that is what it will take, as well as breaking off all relations with Israel. That is what Iran, Jordan, Syria, the UAE say will improve relations. Shouldn't they be taken at their words?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Simon, Obama wants to stay in Iraq until "the generals" say the Allies are ready to leave... the "Allies", Simon. That's you.

Obama supports bail-outs and "big business" since he become "President-elect".

Obama wants to double the number of troops in Afghanistan.

Tell me, Simon.

Are you sure, Obama's real name isn't "McCain". Heck... Even, McCain didn't want to expand the war in Afghanistan the same way Obama does.

Enjoy your "change" and return to your "1800s".

0 ( +0 / -0 )

this man is what America needs. He is saying let's not bomb, let's not invade.....let's talk. And wake up people to the fact that invading a country and turning them into your image is so 1800's. Those days are gone forever. A new approach is needed, new ideas, new ways of thinking.

Obama will in history be seen as the man that balanced Americas role in the world. The power to kill more of you then us worked OK in WW2 if you accept tens of millions dying was OK - but the world has moved on. GWB was the tail end of those who believed in invadw and conquer. We have moved into a new phase.

Hey Helter_Skelter don't forget to answer the above question. What should the American Muslims do to better their image? < :-)

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I have a friend whose name is Ramah. Every time she flys she gets pulled to the side and questioned because of her name.

Good to hear airport security is doing their job. Thanks for sharing adaydream.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Helter_Skelter what should Muslims do to better their image? You know what has been written here by some posters about Barack "Hussein" Obama's name. Even almost using it as a cuss word. That's why JT started deleting some post I believe.

I don't know what any American Muslim have done here in the United States that has disrespected the United States. Do you?

It's non-Americans that have killed our countrymen. Not Americans.

So what should they do? < :-)

0 ( +0 / -0 )

"Re-boot" eh? All the way back to the 7th century? Good Luck with that one.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

skipthesong, I have a friend whose name is Ramah. Every time she flys she gets pulled to the side and questioned because of her name. As far as I'm aware, she's a WASP. Names can be used against someone or even feared. < :-)

The Muslims need to reboot their image to the US, not the other way around. It appears Obama is going to make appeasement his first order of duty. Of course, it will come back to bite him, as is the case whenever the US has tried to befriend Islamic nations.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I am not sure it is possible to make America look good in the Muslim world. Like the images of Chinese people shouting "death to Japanese people", still remember pictures of muslim people shouting "death to Americans". I do not think any amount of good will is going to be helpful. Things might improve but with the smallest incident it will go directly to bad and perhaps worse. I just do not see it in the muslim countries and people intrest to be nice to Americans.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Good move on Obama's part. Building a better relationship will benefit both the US and the Muslim world. And I trust the message he will give won't be a lot of groveling. The fact is that there needs to be better dialogue and understanding. Right now the US is being defined in the Muslims world through government controlled media, radical jihadists, and the radical Left in Western nations. The US government needs to take more control of their image.

zurcronium:Bush ended up being the poster boy for terrorist recruiting after he killed a million iraqi people for nothing.

Bush killed a million Iraqis? According to whom? Is this the official figure given by the Canadian "media"?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Electing Obama President will do more just by itself to improve security for the US that all the wars and stupid acts that the bush trainwreck presidency has carried out in the last 6 years. Bush ended up being the poster boy for terrorist recruiting after he killed a million iraqi people for nothing. Obama will never do anything that stupid to enrage the muslim world and give OBL the perfect example of why he is right about the US and the west.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

so my question is who hates us so much that we need to go out and kiss butt?

Indeed, I also often wondered why is it that those who have harmed the US the most have also had their butts kissed the most by the US. BTW, I am not referring to Muslims.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Prudent choice for an apostate. But I worry this could backfire and Obama could find himself target of the same kind of fatwa/death sentence that Rushdie got for writing a harmless novel.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I have no doubt that if and when Obama makes a speech in a Muslim capital ,he will certainly face an"uneasy" question about American position related to Israel and Palestine.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Ossan: Allow me to put it more bluntly... stop waiting for everything for be done for you without question, and start putting a little forward yourself, for humanity and not against it.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Ossan: "Very noble Mr. Obama. Now who's going to reboot the image of Muslims among Americans?"

What happened to OssanUltra? Anyway, one would hope you would play a part in bringing about a better image of a group of people amongst your countrymen. I would, regardless of whom it was, so long as they are willing to take part and take the lead. I certainly wouldn't stand by and chide them while they tried. That does nothing for anyone.

What Obama is doing here is nothing but good, and anyone criticizing him for it is simply angry and upset and needs someone else to blame, be it Obama, or the enemy of the week (often Obama for some).

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Oh, Aday,

BTW, I heard Omar Sharif, Kareem Abdul Jabbar,, had issues due to their names for a while but over came it.

there is also Marlo and Danny Thomas (Amos Alphonsus Muzyad Yaqoob) had a few issues too, but he was always a Christian just of Arabic origin.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

There is nothing wrong with Obama's name. Its just new. I have heard Italians and Jews had a problem back in the old days of Hollywood.

Having said that, what is he going to do? Its not about the terrorist element, they ain't gonna budge. Even after 9/11, we have over a 100,000 Muslim immigrating to the US, so my question is who hates us so much that we need to go out and kiss butt?

If we are somewhat "forced" to accept Islamic religion and its people, how about asking them for a reciprocal? How about letting more immigration to their lands and allowing said immigrants to build churches, Synagogues, allowing females to become what ever they desire, and how about allowing our fashions?

I think this is going a bit far. Putting the government aside, most Americans think Israel is the bad guy in the ME relations, most Americans have are against the war, we allow a doll which says "Islam is the light" on our store shelves, many municipalities have ordinances in regards to Christmas lighting & decorations (but not for other holidays), we have tolerance training in most companies (which most devout Muslims would fail) and schools, our airlines ask you to remove anything that is deemed religious (but not for head ware, scarves, and burkhas), we allow people to take driver's photos where their face is not shown, local businesses which were once in operation are moved (compensated though) if they are butchers and sell port (Queens)...

We else can we do?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I know that only a minute fraction of fringe groups within the Islamic religion are terrorist. There are a few posters here who will never believe that and their upcoming post will reforce this.

Refusing to use his name Hussein would be the same as someone named Adolph not using his whole name. Or even george or bush.

Any of these names can be used derrogotorily, even here on JT. < :-)

Very noble Mr. Obama. Now who's going to reboot the image of Muslims among Americans?
