roflmao Jorb. But are you sure it's not a Republican volcano that's causing the problems?

"Come to Indonesia and see the world's biggest ash hole!"

Classic...

Oh Please..give me break.

I know, airplanes are always used in movies to get away from heated, possibly electrically charged cloulds of engine clogging volcanic ash. Being the president of the US and having a 200 million dollar a day entourage, they should have been able to remove all the ash from the surrounding atmosphere and put it in a big hole in the ground. Indonesia could have used it to draw in tourism; "Come to Indonesia and see the world's biggest ash hole!"

sail,

"Volcano forces Obama to cut short his visit to Indonesia Oh Please..give me break."

Dude, even the article says that "international airlines are canceling flights over concerns about air safety", not just Air Force 1.

Are you truly so bitter that you'd rather see your own president's jet come crashing to the ground as a result of volcanic ash?

Heh, Iraq and Afghanistan are not model democracies neither - and America created those. So the lesson should be America stop pushing democracy, ha!

If indonesia wants shariah law good luck to them its their country and their choice nobody else's business!

Fruitsbasketfan:

" Because not all Indonesians nor Muslims are radicals. I am referring to the ones (both non-Muslims and Muslims) who are shocked by this. "

Sure. Alas, those muslims who disagree with the islamic radicals don´t do much about it, either out of fear or of hidden sympathy. The result is that the push for Shariah in Indonesia is continuing unabatedly. No matter that not all muslims actually want it.

Do you realize at all how many Shariah areas they have already there, besides Aceh? Check it out, it is quite astonishing (and scary).

TimRussert: The usual tactical relativism of the Left.

So GWB in 2003 went in Indonesia for what?

OK. Clinton and Reagan went there for summits.

At least be a little honest in your declarations. please...

Triumvere at 02:30 PM JST - 10th November I beleive the world you are looking for is "diplomat"

I was being "diplomatic" ;)

Because he thinks that Indonesia is a model of religious freedom and democracy, despite a wealth of evidence to the contrary. Okay, maybe he's not stupid, maybe he's just a huge two-faced hypocrite.

I beleive the world you are looking for is "diplomat".

Indonesia also has a history of aggression against Chistian and Hindu minorities. Don´t expect Barry to address this.

It goes against his indoctrination. Since Indonesia was a "victim" of white , Christian "imperialism" under the Dutch it gets, in the minds of Obama and fellow travelers, a pass on state-supported discrimination against Chinese and Hindus. The usual tactical relativism of the Left.

FruitsBaskedFan:

" many Indonesians are noticing how this is starting to get worse "

That is a meaningless statement. Who are the "Indonesians" you are talking about, and how do you define worse?

Christian, Hindus, and moderate muslims have long "noticed" the push for Shariah by the radicals. And what is "worse" for the victims of Shariah is considered "good" by the islamic clerics. So your value statements lacks a reference point.

In the event, the conflicts in Aceh, East Timor, and the Molukkas have been going on for decades. Maybe they are new for you, but not for Indonesians.

Did you even read the rest of the post?

I said that many Indonesians are noticing how this is starting to get worse, especially these past few years.

FruitsBasket:

" Indonesia does have a history of coexistance with its Christian and other religious minorities. "

Indonesia has its "Pancasila" state ideology which limits radical islam. However, islamic parties have been pushing to replace Pancasila with Sharia, alas with growing success.

Indonesia also has a history of aggression against Chistian and Hindu minorities. Don´t expect Barry to address this.

Obama's some diplomat. He's already upset the Indians, the Pakistanis and now the Israel. Hope he doesn't start a war when he visits South Korea.

Indonesia does have a history of coexistance with its Christian and other religious minorities....however, news agencies are picking up distressing news that groups of hardcore Islamic radicals are speaking out more against non-Muslims and threatening them......many people (including the Indonesians) are surprised by this since it has gotten worse in the 21st century.

Well the title is cool, but I hope his wife quits reaching out with a hand shake.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

The handshake just shows Michelle's ignorance. You should respect other people's religious beliefs, especially if you're a guest in their country. I believe there is something about respecting other religions in the U.S. Constitution and/or the Bill of Rights, as well. On the other hand, the handshake may have been planned all along to discredit President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.

What has Indonesia done for America?

smithinjapan: He has, and continues to... the problem is that when this man extends his hand you cringe and turn away, then say you wished he had extended his hand

Sorry, but us poor hard working folks are not the ones who he is extending his hand to. He only extend his hand when he wants the votes.

" ... How quickly people forget. In 2005 there where the attacks against Christians in Poso (about 1000 dead), in 2007 8 people were prosecuted for peacefully expressing their opposition to the death penalty, the ongoing genocide in Papua. Hell they've even got their own form of apartheid with special laws against Chinese-Indonesians. "

...and full-throttle Shariah law in Aceh. Don´t expect him to mention that, or the genocide in East Timor. He is too busy "reaching out" while keeping the head in the sand.

Doing what he is doing best, between muslim Shrine visits in Pakistan and mosque visits in Indonesia... reaching out to muslims, and bashing Israel.

2 more years...

I thought that Bush was a moron, but Obama is beginning to make him look like a flippin' genius." Why, because he can spell and speak, and reaches out to people regardless or religion, race, or creed? Yeah... that's got to be 'stupid'. :)

Because he thinks that Indonesia is a model of religious freedom and democracy, despite a wealth of evidence to the contrary. Okay, maybe he's not stupid, maybe he's just a huge two-faced hypocrite. Perhaps I was just too generous.

Obama is a good diplomat.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

The president, who is Christian, is eager to hold up Indonesia as a model: an overwhelmingly Muslim nation where other religions are respected freely and an evolving democracy is gaining strength despite a legacy of corruption.

... How quickly people forget. In 2005 there where the attacks against Christians in Poso (about 1000 dead), in 2007 8 people were prosecuted for peacefully expressing their opposition to the death penalty, the ongoing genocide in Papua. Still wants to be everything to everyone.

Pathetic.

Indonesia is doing very well economically these days, due USA,Obama and many other nations.

Think they will continue to do well via their friend in childhood, President Obama.

Think the US needs a real American for president instead of an islamic sympathizer.

I wish he'd reach out to Americans.
