For awhile during his speech, I thought Obama was telling the crowd that he "was on the fix" rather than "will fix" when speaking about Washington DC...

I was watching BBC news over the weekend, and their experts think that the black fella, Obama is the best choice for America.

They said McCain will probably start a war with Iran, and foreigners will hate America.

They also said Mr McCain has problems with his memory, so he maybe cannot be trusted, blimey i wouldnt want somein charge who cant remember everything.

[it would be easy for someone who WANTS to misread it to do so, but I'll point it out again for those bushites who have a hard time learning (and clearly you do if you still believe in bush and republicans].

Look whose misreading... but we cannot blame someone so fixated on his own hate that he is deaf, dumb and blind to anything else... A kind of nazi in a way.

40 million viewers will translate into even more than the 15 point post convention bounce that Bill Clinton got after the nomination.

And yet, it hasn't. In fact, Obama din't get any "bounce" at all through Wednesday. A couple of polls even had McCain's numbers increasing.

Even with that 15 point bounce, Clinton still needed Ross Perot to get in with 43% of the vote.

mccain is finished.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Nearly 40 million americans watched this speech, nearly doubling the record for a previous acceptance speech. Many republicans watched as well and as a result will vote for Obama in November. Millions more watched on teh internet no doubt as I did.

Since the key demographic for mccain, the ancient, will be long asleep before he speaks the numbers will be much, much less next week. In fact I wonder how they are going to keep him up for his speech. He needs his naps as we all know. Otherwise he forgets how many houses he owns. Little things like that.

Has anyone here actually read this closely? The following quotes are downright spooky.

Surrounded by an enormous, adoring crow, Barack Obama promised a clean beak.

Why is he pandering to birds for heaven's sake?!

Thursday night as he embarked on the final lap dance of his audacious bed.

Disgusting! What won't he do for a vote?

America, now is not the time for small planes.

So much for environment-friendly.

The Illinois senator sold an estimated 84,000 people packed into a huge football at the base of the Rocky Mountains.

I thought there was an amendment to outlaw that.

He vowed to cut taxes for nearly all working-class families, end the war in Iraq and break America.

Of course, the government and individuals are all breaking America.

Hope you enjoyed. :-)

It's amazing how the republicans are just pounding the keys in their anti-obama rheteric and not a single post on the McCain picks Palin article. They are more concerned about bashing Obama than commenting on Palin.

They are waiting on their talking points.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

This just in:

38 million watched on TV Obama accept the nomination.

That's bigger than the Olympics.

Hello President Obama.

It's amazing how the republicans are just pounding the keys in their anti-obama rheteric and not a single post on the McCain picks Palin article. They are more concerned about bashing Obama than commenting on Palin.

I for one enjoyed his speach.

The biggest thing that has to be remembered is that the republicans have to recognize that there needs to be a change in Washington. But they like the way that george bush has used the office and want McCain to follow his administration as a model of success.

I'll be glad to see how he fixes a little of Washington. < :-)

jwills79:

Quote: She has recently come under the scrutiny of an investigation by the Republican-controlled legislature into the possibility that she ordered the dismissal of Alaska's public safety commissioner because he would not fire her former brother-in-law as a state trooper.

Since you're an open-minded progressive, you'll probably want to know the rest of the story:

On July 11, 2008, Palin dismissed Walter Monegan as Commissioner of Public Safety and instead offered him a position as executive director of the state Alcoholic Beverage Control Board, which he subsequently turned down. Monegan alleged shortly after his dismissal that it may have been partly due to his reluctance to fire an Alaska State Trooper, Mike Wooten, who had been involved in a divorce and child custody battle with Palin's sister, Molly McCann. In 2006, before Palin was governor, Wooten was briefly suspended for ten days for threatening to kill McCann's (and Palin's) father, tasering his 11-year-old stepson (at the stepson's request), and violating game laws. After a union protest, the suspension was reduced to five days.

Palin asserted that her dismissal of Monegan was unrelated to the fact that he had not fired Wooten, and asserts that Monegan was instead dismissed for not adequately filling state trooper vacancies, and because he "did not turn out to be a team player on budgeting issues." Palin acknowledged that a member of her administration, Frank Bailey, did contact the Department of Public Safety regarding Wooten, but both Palin and Bailey say that happened without her knowledge and was unrelated to her dismissal of Monegan. Bailey was put on leave for two months for acting outside the scope of his authority as the Director of Boards and Commissions. Commissioner Monegan received no severance pay, though at the same time another dismissed Commissioner, Charles Kopp (who served only 11 days) received $10,000.

In response to Palin's statement that she had nothing to hide, in August 2008 the Alaska Legislature hired Steve Branchflower to investigate Palin and her staff for possible abuse of power surrounding the dismissal, though lawmakers acknowledge that "Monegan and other commissioners serve at will, meaning they can be fired by Palin at any time." The investigation is being overseen by Democratic State Senator Hollis French, who says that the Palin administration has been cooperating and thus subpoenas are unnecessary. The Palin administration itself was the first to release an audiotape of Bailey making inquiries about the status of the Wooten investigation.

It's not just Fox News. Obama won't bother with visiting the troops either. You're not suggesting they're a bunch of pansies too, are you?

Say, when is that courageous Obama going to face a direct, critical question? Even better, when will he give a direct, substantive response? He's been campaigning for a couple years now, I'm still waiting. Maybe that's "above his pay grade"?

Go ahead, spin the truth out of that. I know you want to.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

zurcronium, I guess that's why Obama's events have been so carefully scripted, eh?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

courage to appear on fox news? they are just a bunch of pansies there who fold when the truth is spoken. So why bother with the republican propaganda machine that is supposedly a part of the liberal media you wingers love to lie about?

barack will debate mccain in an official debate, not some screwy rigged event that mccain had proposed. And if any of you think barack wont wipe the floor with mccain who has trouble speaking due to his advanced age you are seriously deluded. Of course!

Something else I noticed about Obama's speech last night: He kept saying "if McCain wants to debate" this and that, yet Obama has been declining McCain's invitations for months. What happened to "anytime, anywhere" Barack? What's that? You meant Ahmedinejad, not McCain?

Maybe now that Obama made it through the convention without a Clinton coup, he'll have the courage to appear on Fox News.

JoiceRojo:

But my guess it is the same that happened to those that accused McCain of practically being "on vacation" in the last years of his pow imprisonment, or the rumors of the Bushes being close to the bin laden family.

The difference is that nobody was actively trying to intimidate or silence those who accused McCain of having an easy time as a POW, or the Bush family's ties to the bin Laden family. People were free to look into these allegations, they just found no substance.

There's also a pro-Obama group ironically called "Accountable America", that is using fear tactics and outright lies in an attempt to intimidate would-be Republican donors:

Whoops, the link won't paste, as it has an "and" symbol in it. Oh well, you can find the link in one of my posts in a thread titled "McCraziness/Obamania>>> 2008!" on the forum side of JT.

Fabulous pick by McCain.

It's a wonder we don't try to harness Republican spin and hot air as an alternative energy source. We'd eliminate our dependence on foreign oil in no time.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

WhiteHawk: The tactics are not new, still American buy this for better or worse, those that believe those promises to the end, and are against that, actually believe that is socialism, and those that are in favor will work towards getting those cuts (resulting in more people working or risking investments boosting the economy).

Now, care to address the post I made about Obama's campaign trying to intimidate/silence those who bring his connections with terrorist William Ayers to light?

I'm sorry, I haven't had time to read all the parts of the campaign, I didn't know that. But my guess it is the same that happened to those that accused McCain of practically being "on vacation" in the last years of his pow imprisonment, or the rumors of the Bushes being close to the bin laden family. It might be true (for both parties), for me they are rumors, and even if they are true, I prefer it shows that like everyone else they have dirty clothes that don't want to show.

Governor Palin = VPILF

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Fabulous pick by McCain.

At one fell swoop, the media's adoration for Obama's acceptance speech is now second page stuff. It also exposes the sickening bias of the main stream media who are clearly disappointed that Obama just lost the election.

Questioning McCain's VP pick's lack of experience when she has 2 more years of executive experience over Barak is so disingenuous, so blatantly obvious only the terminally stupid could fail to see how weak of a position the Democrats are now in for not choosing Hillary.

Oops ..... more bad news for Team obama.

The network TV ratings are in and America proved once again with their remotes that they overwhelmingly didn't care about obama's moment in the sun.

Even with all three broadcast networks obediently pumping saturation coverage into American living rooms, 81% of the TV audience chose to watch something else.

So, in spite of the frezny in a lone football studium somewhere in Colorado, the country at large seems to have had enough Obama mania.

but also the smart ones would notice that the incentive comes that you, as an entrepreneur will boost your business without worrying in paying large taxes as your business grow up.

Except that as your business grows, it would also grow out of the exemption.

Also, if you have a start-up or small business, usually as a citizen your income would be "middle class" whose? taxes will be already cut. ("I will cut taxes for 95 percent of all working families" part...)

Another smoke-and-mirrors tactic, and not a new one for democrats. First, Obama has to be firm and consistent with who qualilfies as "middle class", and he has yet to do that. Second, it's no secret that 50% of Americans do not pay federal income taxes, and that the tax burden on the rest gets disproportionally higher the further up the income scale you go (I think it's something like the top 1 or 5% makes 25% of the money but pays 68% of the tax bruden, but I would have to revisit the IRS website again to be specific). Democrats have long used the tactic of "We'll make the other guy pay your way" to lure voters. But increasing the burden on the owners of America's industry only adds to the cost of doing business (the increase in taxes gets passed on to the consumer), drives business overseas, and feeds offshore tax shelters, such as Teddy "soak the rich" Kennedy's.

Obama isn't promising anything new or successful. He's just feeding on the wealth envy and entitlement complexes that are part of the base of the modern American liberal (Marxist) party.

Don't worry about your English, I had no idea you weren't a native speaker. Thanks for putting such effort into your posts and thoughts.

Now, care to address the post I made about Obama's campaign trying to intimidate/silence those who bring his connections with terrorist William Ayers to light?

If fact, I've yet to see anybody touch that one.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

WhiteHawk:

PS: I notice you have no counter for my exposure of Obama's smoke-and-mirrors tax promise. Are you too "smart" to counter?

I didn't notice that. True. Usually small businesses and start-ups rarely pay taxes on capital gains due to amount of capital involvement. As a "marketing move" it's brilliant, the smart american would notice that is smoke and mirrors (but all campaigns use these kind of marketing, I've seen that before with Bush-Gore), but also the smart ones would notice that the incentive comes that you, as an entrepreneur will boost your business without worrying in paying large taxes as your business grow up.

Also, if you have a start-up or small business, usually as a citizen your income would be "middle class" whose? taxes will be already cut. ("I will cut taxes for 95 percent of all working families" part...)

Ps. I would love to continue the Marx thing, but I cannot give another space for discussion.

Sorry for the English, I'm not used to this speech level of English, bear with me some errors in some words.

You have to be too far in denial or an open redneck to be in McCain's pocket.

Wow, that's deep. Which orifice did you pull that political observance out of?

Who wants a third Bush term ?

Who wants a second Carter term? Or a first McGovern term?

Dick Morris has a few points for you "third Bush term" chanters to absorb:

McCain fought for campaign finance reform — McCain-Feingold — that Bush resisted and ultimately signed because he had no choice. McCain led the battle to restrict interrogation techniques of terror suspects and to ban torture. McCain went with Joe Lieberman on a tough measure to curb climate change, something Bush denies is going on. McCain opposed the Bush tax cuts when they passed. McCain urged the Iraq surge, a posture Bush rejected for years before conceding its wisdom. McCain favors FDA regulation of tobacco and sponsored legislation to that effect, a position all but a handful of Republican senators oppose. McCain's energy bill, also with Lieberman, is a virtual blueprint for energy independence and development of alternate sources. After the Enron scandal, McCain introduced sweeping reforms in corporate governance and legislation to guarantee pensions and prohibit golden parachutes for executives. Bush opposed McCain's changes and the watered-down Sarbanes-Oxley bill eventuated. McCain has been harshly critical of congressional overspending, particularly of budgetary earmarks, a position Bush only lately adopted (after the Democrats took over Congress).

For me to be dumb is to vote for a guy that will continue the war depressing even more the local economy.

Since you haven't noticed, the war in Iraq is wrapping up. Troops levels are below the pre-surge count and have been for some time. We have an agreement to have battle troops out by 2011. The only basis for your claim about McCain is likely his "100 year" comment, which was taken wildly out of context.

As for Obama's promises, they are idealistic, but they are good, if you are smart you should understand how you have to work for reaching those objectives.

There's a difference between good and "feel-good". Obama's promises are the latter. And they're unnecessary.

PS: I notice you have no counter for my exposure of Obama's smoke-and-mirrors tax promise. Are you too "smart" to counter?

Governing a state that is three miles from Russia gives her more foreign policy experience than the "community organizer" that the democrats just chose.

For me to be dumb is to vote for a guy that will continue the war depressing even more the local economy. How many grants were cut because the firms were not willing to invest due to war? the education suffered, the middle-income families had less access to a better quality of life, All because of war! I've never understood why attack Iraq when the terrorists were someone place else, because after all these years they haven't found Bin Laden. Dumb to believe that this war was actually a war on terror, when it was actually for a different reason. I think that for America to be a great nation you should start inside, making a strong economy while defending your nation, the war created such speculations on oil prices that the world economy suffered. I don't deny that there is a necessity for stopping nuclear races and terrorism, you have to defend your nation, but terrorism has not stopped, and even though America hasn't suffered another attack, it was at the cost or your privacy and detriment of your quality of life. That's acceptable for a couple of years, but at this point if you want to continue living like this, you are dumb.

As for Obama's promises, they are idealistic, but they are good, if you are smart you should understand how you have to work for reaching those objectives.

I'm still curious what his latest definition of middle class is.

According to his speech last night, Obama accused McCain of considering people making under $5,000,000/year to be middle class. Can't wait to see his proof of that! But you're right, Obama has yet to offer his own firm definition.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Sarge:

Yet he's even in the polls with McCain.

Did Obama get a bump in the polls after his speech last night? Historically speaking (at least since the invention of television), candidates get a bump in the polls during their convention week. Obama made history by not doing that (as of Wednesday). In fact in a couple of polls, McCain actually got a boost. And speculation over his VP pick crowded some of Obama's convention coverage out of the news.

My theory is that Obama has already convinced all the people he can to vote for him. Unless McCain or his VP pick make a serious faux pas, Obama won't gain any more votes. McCain still has to pick up some votes from the hard right, however.

As I challenged you yesterday, but you hadn't the guts to reply to and chose to simply 'forget', do you mean Obama as opposed to McCain? Please tell me where Obama has no substance but McCain supposedly does! That'll be a joke and a half.

Yes, I did forget about you. My apologies; please do not take it personally. As you saw by my main post yesterday, I addressed many posters' points. Again, I apologize for letting you slip through the cracks.

So, would you like to point out Obama's substance?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Speaking of not being smart enough to vote for Obama, last night he promised to eliminate capital gains taxes for small businesses and start-ups.

But small businesses and start-ups rarely, if ever, pay capital gains taxes. What they do pay is income taxes. Obama's proposed tax plan will raise the income tax rate paid by such entrepreneurs. Obama's promise to eliminate capital gains taxes on this part of the private sector is nothing more than smoke-and-mirrors.

So to recap, if you're smart enough, you'll somehow take Obama at his word and not question his promises. If you're not smart enough, you'll see why you shouldn't believe him or vote for him. Is that what you meant, JoiceRojo?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Whitehawk: "Obama, the motivational speaker with no substance to back it up?"

As I challenged you yesterday, but you hadn't the guts to reply to and chose to simply 'forget', do you mean Obama as opposed to McCain? Please tell me where Obama has no substance but McCain supposedly does! That'll be a joke and a half. McCain with ZERO promises to date that he hasn't either flip-flopped 540 degrees on or conveniently 'forgotten' about, and can't make any new promises except to promise to be like bush, vs. Obama who focuses on what he will do for the country.... hmmmm.... well, as the poster said above, you are an idiot NOT to vote for him. But hey, let me know if you want me to cut own the forest for you so you can see the trees.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

bushlover: "You really believe what any politician promises to come true? That's pretty rare and a bit optimistic by you. "

I suppose if you're only going to read my comment, and not what it was in reply to (which was directly posted into the text of my comment, by the way), it would be easy for someone who WANTS to misread it to do so, but I'll point it out again for those bushites who have a hard time learning (and clearly you do if you still believe in bush and republicans): I was responding to a poster who said Obama would 'never' say what he means. Hence, I said, 'not only did he spell out clearly and concretely what he planned to do, he promised it'. I was merely pointing out that he said what he planned to do; whether he accomplishes any or all of it remains to be seen when he's president.

That being said, I believe has the potential and honest desire to achieve what he has said he would, unlike McCain; the latter has not only NOT said what he will do since launching his barrage on Obama, but has flip-flopped on promises he made long-before then, numerous times (then claims he forgot! hahahaha!).

Obama tells crowd of 84,000 that he'll fix Washington

How? By sending his out his bullies, like the ones who have been trying to intimidate stations from playing commercials informing the public of his connection to terrorist William Ayers?

http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/washington/2008/08/obama-wgn.html

By giving out marching orders, like the step-by-step instructions the Obama camp gave out to supporters who have been calling WGN, trying to drown out Stanley Kurtz?

http://my.barackobama.com/page/s/WGNstandards

(Please note that neither of these sources can be accused of being "right-wing mouthpieces", for those who like to attack sources instead of substance.)

Somehow, I don't think Obama is pure enough for the job. Besides, isn't that what Pelosi promised too?

This isn't "Change", this is the same old Chicago politics, right out of Jesse Jackson's playbook.

Good question. I've got another. How can Morgan Stanley learn if they get bailed out each time their executives miscalculate?

Maybe, for example, Obama might help citizens be responsible by being clear to banks and others that the government would no longer be responsible for their bad decisions.

Who said Obama was going to sponsor government give-aways? Obama stresses individual responsibility. For example, isn't he the guy who suggested that black fathers need to be more present and more contributive to their families?

I don't know what the big deal is. Only another politician telling people what they think the people want to hear. "If I'm president I'll do X, Y, and Z and solve your problems." Change x, y and z to match the times, dress it up eloquently with vague, non specific, langauge, assure people you can solve their problems (which are always somebody else's fault).

Unfortunately, a guy like Obama, charismatic as he is, has only been around a few years, so he doesn't have many relationships in congress to help him out, and if he wins, he'll at best be first choice for about 25% of americans.

Sure, he can talk a good game (thank his speech writers for that) but actually getting things DONE in washington ain't no walk in the park. Just ask Jimmy Carter.

Why are people laughing when Obama says he will fix Washington?

Barack Obama said "More of you have lost your homes and even more are watching your home values plummet. More of you have cars you can't afford to drive, credit card bills you can't afford to pay, and tuition that's beyond your reach. These challenges are not all of government's making. But the failure to respond is a direct result of a broken politics in Washington and the failed policies of George W. Bush."

So would Barack Obama regulate business so that citizens would no longer be able to purchase cars and houses they couldn't afford or over-extend their credit cards? Isn't it each citizen's responsibility to spend responsibly? Is this not something each citizen should learn to do? How can they learn if Barack Obama wants government to respond with assistance every time these foolish citizens make a mistake?

Sorry to further burst bubbles, but Dr. King possibly appreciating Obama's considerable successes as a black man in America have little to do with being the member of a political party, either Republican or Democrat.

Brilliant speech on Obama's part and kudos to both candidates for making appreciable efforts to keep the debate civil. Let's see if their supporters are as well-behaved in the coming months...

my take on this, for what its worth.. I thought it was great, seeing how many young Americans were there getting themselves involved in the political machine that makes the country move.

However, I am not too sure if I can warm up to that Greek stage and the rock star status. It's kind of like my mom getting a tattoo on her shoulder. But that's just me. I don't like my president being worshiped like a rock star just as much as I would wouldn't want Madonna to be my mom. But, still if he had no complaints about the country music playing, I say he can endure a lot.

One serious note, and many of you may grill me. Just because he is black, and their idea to coincide with MLK's speech anniversary, doesn't not make him anything near MLK.. If you look at views Obama has, you will see that that only thing they really had in common was that they both are black. MLK was said to be against abortion, against illegal immigration (1965 immigration act was mentioned), never drank or did drugs and MLK was far from being calm and cool (in a good way).

so, only two points I can gripe about. Other than that, I can't see why he won't win the election. People who have counter beliefs, such as guns (read "Blackman with a gun"), abortion (Armstrong Williams), and immigration (Shelby Steele) are putting those to the side to help make this happen.

I guess McCain, by the time the next election rolls around, will have to ask Saint Peter (correct?) for a delayed entry.

ColAmerica ... I guess I don't have any sense then, cause he's got my vote. Has for months. Respectfully, I think the only Americans without any sense are the ones who think that the policies of GWB and Dick Cheney are the best America can do, and can somehow block out eight years of abject failure -- on every measure -- from their mind. And instead fall prey to the negative and devisive approaches of the like of Karl Rove -- mainly fear and prejudice. But, please enlighten us. Tell us a single significant accomplishment the Republican administration has to show for eight years in office, that would merit my vote for a continuation of that approach. Then maybe I'll come to my senses like you.

Dumbest quote of the day: [Obama not only said what he will do in a very concrete and spelled out manner ('I will cut taxes!', 'I will end Bush-style politics', 'I will end our reliance on ME oil within a decade', to name but a few of many things he vowed to do... VOWED!), he PROMISED it!]

You really believe what any politician promises to come true? That's pretty rare and a bit optimistic by you. If this guy wins it'll only be because of how sick and tired they are of George W making a fool of himself. That's Obamas only hope really. Unless all voters are as naive as the quoted above. And really end reliance on ME oil? Good luck Mr.

Good show overall. Good balance of what the apathetic, mostly non voting public anyway needs to be reassured with, right down to the flag pin that Obama displayed. You can see why the idea of peopling the audience with genuine-looking supporters was necessary, even if they had to bus them in. Saul would be proud. Lemming day approaches for all republicans.

A lot of talk and people are excited about Obama but come election day (I am sorry )but McCain will win the day. It is too bad but I fear the U.S. will go with the older white guy.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I thought he should have talked longer...

I agree with ColAmerica.

Obama made himself look afool, his speech was just cliche`s written by his highly paid advisors.

This type of showboating shifts floating voters towards the McCain camp.

goodDonkey- I have a recent poll that puts McCain ahead by 5%. I will not provide a link because although the source is neutral, many on this site call it extreme right wing and other silly nonsense.

The Obama propaganda show, was just that, entertainment, not politics, trying to reach the lcd.

McCain even praised him for being Democrat nominee, what a humble guy.

It was a grand speech. He aims so high to inspire. Barrack Obama always reminds us of Nelson Mandela and Mohandes Ghandi and even Che. It's a shame that as president he'll probably still be expected to attend to alot of really mundane matters.

ColAmerica

gooDonkey; Yeah great polls. Ones that were taken in the middle of states with huge Democrat leads, really fair that is buddy.

You brought up polls and you posted incorrect information. I was simply responding to your incorrect statement that McCain was ahead in the polls.

Obama speaks a lot, but does he say what he will do? Never!!!

I will echo the other poster. He said exactly what he will do. Obamma said tonight

I'll invest 150 billion dollars over the next decade in affordable, renewable sources of energy — wind power and solar power and the next generation of biofuels; an investment that will lead to new industries and 5 million new jobs that pay well . . .

I will cut taxes — cut taxes — for 95 percent of all working families. Because in an economy like this, the last thing we should do is raise taxes on the middle class.

I will eliminate capital-gains taxes for the small businesses and the start-ups that will create the high-wage, high-tech jobs of tomorrow.

I'll invest in early-childhood education. I'll recruit an army of new teachers, and pay them higher salaries and give them more support. And in exchange, I'll ask for higher standards and more accountability.

If you have health care, my plan will lower your premiums. If you don't, you'll be able to get the same kind of coverage that members of Congress give themselves.

But I will also go through the federal budget, line by line, eliminating programs that no longer work and making the ones we do need work better and cost less — because we cannot meet 21st century challenges with a 20th century bureaucracy.

I will end this war in Iraq responsibly, and finish the fight against al-Qaida and the Taliban in Afghanistan. I will rebuild our military to meet future conflicts. But I will also renew the tough, direct diplomacy that can prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons and curb Russian aggression.

Quotes were not in order and not contiguous. I will give the address of the Acceptance Speech Transcript so anyone could read his speech. I know FreedomOfSpeech and ColAmerica, who are the same person (as well as the myriad of other identities this one person holds) will not read the speech because they are afraid that if they did they would end up voting for Barack Obama, the next President of the United States of America.

gooDonkey; Yeah great polls. Ones that were taken in the middle of states with huge Democrat leads, really fair that is buddy.

Obama is dangerous, many despots over the years have entrnced people with their speeches, but Americans have more sense than to vote for the guy.

Very nice post, Yabits.

John McCain's service is to be commended rather than ridiculed and he has enjoyed success in curbing Congressional earmarks. But that alone won't come close to balancing the budget which he has variously promised to do at the end of his first and second terms, leaving out the specifics of course.

It's become clear under the GWB administration just how far national defense has drifted from a civic duty into the realm of economic enterprise. That makes it more likely we will enter into unnecessary wars since large parts of it can be outsourced to for-profit businesses. This is quite a shift from the days when McCain served but there's no evidence he recognizes the danger this trend represents.

There's simply no way he can claim to make the GWB tax cuts permanent, a position on which he reversed himself in order to get the backing of the Republican base, remain in Iraq and balance the budget.

why is McCain ahead in the opinon polls?

He's not ahead in the polls. You are relying on old polls taken when other polls showed Obama ahead at the same time. Now all polls show Obama ahead.

The Gallup Daily Tracking Poll on Thursday showed the Democratic presidential nominee up 6 points over rival John McCain, 48 to 42 percent, with a 2-point margin of error.

http://elections.foxnews.com/2008/08/28/gallup-poll-gives-obama-convention-bounce/

You rely on old polls that were not accurate at the time because there were other polls showing different results. You are living in the past like McCain and the Republican party. Old information; old way of thinking.

“How perfect that your nomination would come on this historic day. Tomorrow, we’ll be back at it. But tonight Senator, job well done.”

More coded racism from mccain and the repubs.

ColAmerica: "Obama speaks a lot, but does he say what he will do? Never!!!"

Ummm... are you really that thick? or did you just not bother to even read the article or watch the speech? Obama not only said what he will do in a very concrete and spelled out manner ('I will cut taxes!', 'I will end Bush-style politics', 'I will end our reliance on ME oil within a decade', to name but a few of many things he vowed to do... VOWED!), he PROMISED it!

Now, talk about McCain on the other hand, and your comment makes perfect sense. Now, THERE'S a man who cannot give one single comment on what he will do; simply what he claims his opponent cannot.

Get with it, amigo... like McCain, you're behind the times.

Dr. King must have been smiling from up on high.

Sorry burst bubbles but M L King was a republican. We don't want to got there.

Terrific speech and a terrific night! C-SPAN reported that security counted over 80,000 in the crowd at Invesco Field.

Dr. King must have been smiling from up on high. Nice of Senator McCain to pay tribute to the Democrats on this historic night. And, from the Democrats, there was only praise for McCain the man -- but firm and well-deserved criticism for his policies and direction.

As a military vet, and as the father of a son who is making the Navy a career, we are proudly casting our votes for Senator Barack Obama. He is the best hope that America has.

goodDonkey+ after all the pomp and ceremony, after the messiah made his speech of hope, after the Liberal media give him 20% more coverage than McCain, why is McCain ahead in the opinon polls?

The mature guy is gonna win guys, yes siree

Alinsky4prez,

Continue with the cheap tricks to try to cast ideas without being brave enough to say what you mean and mean what you say. Obama has excellent family values you can see it in his children and his relationship with his wife. Alinsky4prez why don't you see how many clichés you can make up in the next 24 hours and send them to the Republican party for the convention. They are going to need them. They do not have the policies that Americans want and need so they will continue to sorely need those clichés that I am quite sure you can continue to supply them for years to come.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Obama's family values are real

He got them from his father!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Obama spoke of individual responsibility and how government did not hold all the answers. We as individual citizens of the United States hold many of the answers by each of us doing our own part. As a Democrat I have long held that I am personally responsible for doing my part but the Republicans have denied that Democrats like myself exist; we do, I am one of them and now we have a spokesperson!

goodDonkey- Shame you have made your decision on a shameless self promoting propaganda stunt Goebals would have been proud of.

Obama speaks a lot, but does he say what he will do? Never!!!

He is the king with a wooden crown.

At least in November it will be goodbye Obama, and good riddance!!

Obama delivered a flawless speech that appeals to the most common values that Americans are seeking. Obama is real. Obama's family values are real. You can see Obama's family values in his family not in appeals to religious leaders and guilt driven ideology. Obama spoke are bringing the strength back to America. He spoke of the Republican ways of strength - "tough talk, bad strategy." After 8 years of Republican failure he echoed the sentiment of a hundred million Americans - "Eight is enough!"

Is this really news. It appears the propaganda of the Liberal elite is infiltarting every media outlet.

The liberal bias of the media may assure Obama of some votes, but certainky not enough to beat McCain.

Feel sorry for the guy in a way, he has tried hard, but he has too many skeletons in his closet and no history of patriotism, the opposite in fact.
