What a great and considerate Commander In Chief.

Yeah, I'm sure a visit from Obama would really excite them...

Time to cue the usual anti-Obama critics on this site who fault him on anything they can imagine.

“You will succeed in your mission,” Obama told more than 3,500 cheering troops in a huge hangar. “We said we were going to break the Taliban’s momentum. That’s what you’re doing. You’re going on the offense, tired of playing defense.”

Excellent Mr. Obama!! You are finally getting with the program!! Your cheerleaders must be really disappointed with you but don't worry the "wingers" probably are pretty happy you fooled your supporters into believing you would bring world peace. You are a master of deceit!!

As far as cheering the troops, I think that this is the arrogance of every Commander-In-Chief. What would really make the troops happy is knowing they will be with their families soon and/or know that the government is taking care of their families while they're deployed.

“I don’t need to tell you this is a tough fight,” Obama said. He met with the top NATO commander in Afghanistan, U.S. Gen David Petraeus, and U.S. Ambassador Karl Eikenberry, and also visited wounded soldiers. He presented five Purple Hearts, military awards for wounded service members.

Thank you Mr. President, fine gesture and appreciation for you doing this.

It's good that he's doing this kind of thing. Any leader should visit the people that they have sent to war, when and where possible.

he pledged the country would never again be a “safe haven for terrorists.

Isn't the prez of afigan a terroist, a weak wimp of a leader? Has no one read tht opium output numbers from 10 years back?

Mr.Obama ain't no fool, a surprise visit is the only way for a US president to get in and out alive from messed up places like Afghanistan, Iraq etc..good on your Mr.President and thanks to all our men and women protecting us all around the world in uniform.

What, no one is gonna complain about the expense of going to Afghanistan, heh? I hear a knowledgeable Afghan warlord was quoting $100 million a week.

Were you that happy when Bush did it?

Without feeding the trolls on the right or left... Mr. Obama was doing what presidents have always done, going back to the Civil War. Whether the troops voted for him or not, it's still a pretty big deal to meet the president. And the fact that it's a great photo op for the president is lost on no one.

He could have at least spend one day in the vanguard of an attack on the Taliban, since he has declared the mission to be so important. Bush, heck, he should be in the vanguard of every mission. Its just astounding to me how so many of you seem to thrive on being played, making believe there are higher purposes or something.
